Interest rate: 4% gross p.a. variable from 9th July 2019
Monthly payment: £0-£250
Miss any payments: Can miss as many payments as you wish
Penalty-free withdrawals: Three withdrawals permitted and account closure counts as a withdrawal
Age of applicant: Up to 17 years old
How to open account: Branch only
Special conditions: This Account can only be opened by an Adult(s) aged over 18, in conjunction with a Child aged under 18. Two accounts must be opened initially, one for the Adult(s) and one for the Child. Subsequent accounts for other children can be opened by the Adult account holder. The Adult must be the parent, grandparent, close relative or legal guardian of the Child(ren). Accounts opened for under 14’s must be opened on a signatory basis. Also "fun and educational children’s activity packs for ages 5 – 11 years old, a moneybox, a story and sticker book, as well as a £10 reward voucher (for two years annually)."
For the benefit of people who have children/grandchildren etc, and who are able to visit a branch to open this account, I would like to point out that the opening adult also gets a Learner Earner adult account paying 4% on £250. I don't think this is clear from the website, but confirm it is correct, as I have done it!!!!
Also, do you need to have the child with you, or presumably I just need to take the birth certificate?I consider myself to be a male feminist. Is that allowed?0 -
Hi Everybody,
Here is this weekend's update...
- Principality BS Learner Earner account entry updated to show that the adult also gets an account when a child opens an account

I would make an appointment, even more so if you are making a trip.
The child does not need to be with you, just their birth certificate.
The children's account is viewable if you have online access.0 -
This link (provided by user Snow Tiger on the Banking board) seems to imply that you can now get the HSBC regular saver by opening an ordinary bank account (no minimum balance or pay in required) - is my reading of this correct?

On the HSBC web page it does not mention this:

HSBC Regular Saver: check out link below.
Interest depends on which account you have.

Thanks for the clarification so all they are changing is the fact that if you have an ordinary bank account with 3% Regular Saver you now no longer have to pay in 500 month0
-
You can have the basic Bank Account, get the 3% Regular Saver and not have any minimum pay in if you are over 65. Not sure about under 65 but would suspect £500 monthly min needed.0

They seem to have changed it so no minimum payin required now

I've never done this before, so I thought I would! Monthly deposits into regular savers:
£1050 at 5%
£200 at 3.5%
£2350 @ 3%
£1350 at 2.5%
£200 at 2.3%
£500 at 2.25%
£250 at 2%0 -

Mine's almost identical, except for the 2.00% band where I'm paying in £4,550 pm, plus I have £450 at 1.75%.0
