Is anyone anticipating a double interest payment when the VM regular e-saver matures on 20th February or has this system error now been corrected?

Probably worth keeping discussion to here:

I see no change in their systems but it's worth noting the HMRC implications (as well as the wrath of other forumites ::))

Will change the subtitle in this thread.

It's a minor thing but I went into Nottinghamshire BS as I was passing yesterday and the branch I went to in Burton said they won't open a regular saver for you without an appointment

    Really? I didn't need one.

As I said, it was just that branch, perhaps it was because it was a Saturday, perhaps it varies - worth noting that it *might* need an appointment. I think I will just use the Yorkshire BS one as it's same interest and there is a branch near me that doesn't require me to travel so far.

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.

My nearest Yorkshire BS branch can't/won't normally open an account without an appointment, even though the YBS website says that appointments aren't necessary. To add insult to injury, they also normally offer me a 'financial review', which I've learned means they'll just try to sell me a (worthless) funeral plan! But fortunately, locally there's also an extremely helpful nearby YBS 'agency'.

I try to avoid Saturdays for account opening with any bank/BS because the branches tend to be busy.

Nottinghamshire unfortunately don't have branches near me, the nearest is probably an hour drive away. It just so happens the sport I do means travelling around the Midlands (we get paid mileage) so I may be able to visit the branches on a Saturday morning, if I'd known they required an appointment I could probably have done it on Saturday. Yorkshire have one in the centre of Birmingham which I can do on a day off easily enough and it is less of a faff. Funnily enough I am going to Nottingham shortly and could actually try and get a 9am appointment at a branch but means leaving home at about 7:45 on the Saturday and we're meant to be at the venue an hour before the game so doesn't leave much time!
