RE Virgin Regular online E-Savers, I've noticed that online banking has been constantly closed the last month or so

Are you sure? I logged in a couple of days ago, no problem at all.

A new online 'e' regular saver wouldn't be maturing for another 12 months, which would give them plenty of time to fix the bugs, or possibly to migrate the accounts to the CYBG platform.

I'm not convinced the lack of new online regular savers has anything to do with this 'bug', far more likely that they want to restrict access to their most attractive products to people who have face-to-face contact with staff in branch, and therefore more open to being sold other products (as discussed at length previously).

If VM online had been down for a month you'd see a lot more about it than just your post . I logged in yesterday with no problem.

I understand that in order to gain First Trust Regular Saver you will need to have first trust Current AC

    In their website
    https://firsttrustbank.co.uk/our-products/current-accounts/classic-account

They mention it you could call them on 0345 6005 925. But when I called them they said you cannot open it over the phone. The phone call is just to book an appointment in a branch ?

I wonder how the people manage to open account AC with them.
Has anyone successfully open a current account with them over the phone (or Online) ?
  • To open a new Classic Account, simply call in to your local First Trust Bank branch or call us on 0345 6005 925† if you would prefer to make an appointment.

Yes, you are right, this needs to be changed please, can only be opened in branch and NOT by phone.

What about their regular saver for those who already have an account with them ?

From this forum. It said you could open it online or Branch. IS it accurate based on people personal experience ??

I've been trying to add the First Trust Bank regular saver to my collection for a while. The regular saver can be opened (online, without a branch visit) as long as you already have a current account with them (plus access to their online banking system). But to get the current account (to be able to achieve this) you need to open it in person via one of their branches (which only exist in NI). The current account can be held by any UK resident, as long as you can get to a branch to open it.

I usually do try phoning them up once every 3-4 months to see if I get a more helpful advisor with some way around their current account opening restrictions (or in case policy changes), but so far without any success. Once, one of them suggested that it might be possible to arrange something over the phone with a call-back from one of their branches (for a phone application) and me subsequently submitting ID through a local AIB branch (one nearish me in London) - which would then be sent internally.

Nothing ever materialised from this though. Never did get a call back. But it's the closest I got to making progress, lol. This was why I asked about First Trust a few weeks back.

Shame I didn't open a current account with them when I was last in Belfast a couple of years back. Will have to add it to my "to-do" list next time, but no immediate plans to head that way unfortunately.

Just wondering if you only have a joint current account :beer:can you hold sole regular savers, would that also have to joint.

  • Hi Everybody,

I have updated the entry on the First Trust account on the first page of this thread to show that the current account has to be opened in branch before you can open the regular savings account online.

I will do another update next weekend.

Looking at the T&Cs seems like we should be okay opening individual reg savers with only the 1 joint account between us.

    Has anyone actually done this?
