  • I do party plan, although the company in question offers much more than just parties as an avenue to sell. Its called Tish Tash Toys which is a new company and having been running for a couple of years now has 100 agents.

I started doing it because I wanted to earn some pocket money so we could afford a few luxuries (initially I wanted a hair cut and new trainers). Anyway within a couple of weeks DH got made redundant so I decided to take it more seriously. I got promoted to team leader within 12 weeks and started to recruit my own team locally, which I am just starting to see the results from.

I have only been doing the job 8 months, and it was a little slow to build up (mainly because I didnt have an imediate network of family and friends to host parties for me straight away). Anyway my Nov and Dec commission cheques have almost paid the mortgage each month so it has been a real addition to our family income.

I looked into several 'work from home' opportunities and most of them seemed to involve spending hours in front of a pc earning pennies. Whereas most people I know on the party plan circuit (and you meet a hell of a lot when you do it) earn a good three figure sum each month (obviously varies massively). As it toys we sell it also saved me a fortune on my Christmas spending.

I definitely think party plan is something worth looking into, although admittedly its not for everyone. Theres loads of companies out there to choose from.

    Bear in mind;
what interests you and what you want to sell - whether you want sell stuff for kids or adults.
whether you want to work for a large established company or a small, new one, and be instrumental in its growth.
which methods you want to sell. A lot rely heavily on one method e.g. parties, or door to door. There are very few things that sell well off a table as well (I would say toys, books and jewellery give you the most flexible options).
what is already in your area. dont start something that has already reached saturation point but bear in mind that something new will take time to build up on your own.

I hope all this helps someone, honestly if it wasnt for my 'little work from home job' I would just be trundling along in life. This has improved my social life, reduced my stress levels, given me a new challenge... I could go on.
  • Apologies for the advertising - didn't realise and won't do it again.

Just wanted to re-iterate what others have said in that part plan is great but you have to be prepared to put the work in. Virgin do give us fantastic rewards if you want them but there is no pressure to achieve sales. I've been a VV consultant for 3 years now and I've not only earned my basic of 25% commission but had 2 fantastic trips and had loads of freebies including kit, toys and electrical goods.
:D I love my nursing necklaces. Keep babies hands occupied and you free to breastfeed in peace.
  • After reading about a company selling chocolates from a previous post on MSE I decided to contact them. I recieved an email from the distributor in my area and then was sent some catalogues. After viewing the catalogues and seeing the business opportunity, I decided to test the water and work purely as an agent, getting orders from family, work colleagues etc. The catalogue was really popular and I managed with a bit of hard work to get quite a few orders for the distributor. After quite a few problems with the distributor and some upset I earned the grand total of £14 for two months work! This massive earnings also had to be spent on products in the chocolate catalogue so wasnt even cash! Im now looking into becoming a distributor myself:- well thats if I pass my driving test which is coming up! I guess the distributors get the "lions share" of the profits made. I certainly wouldn`t treat people how I was treated!
Sorry for the rant but wanted to warn people if you want to make a decent amount of money dont work as an agent/ office angel!
  • Hi
I also have my own party planning business and my girls can earn anything from a extra £1000 a month.
I sell branded Cosmetics up to half the price you buy on the high street.
They love it and they get all there cosmetics half price as well.
Part planning is a great idea as us women love to SHOP !!!!!!
    Budget Make Up is great
  • I think it is fab that there are so many opportunities around nowadays for us to work from home.

I looked at a few things before starting Usborne Books 2.5 years ago, but this really works for me. I earn money, but still get to spend most of my time with my little girl :D. I think if you find something you love and are passionate about, you will do well at it.

Needless to say that my daughter lurvvvves books! And we have a fair few of them!

  • hi overdrawn30

ive been a partylite consultant since sept last year and at the start it was fine i got all my mates to hav parties, but the shows are getting less and less now.

i am not the most confident person or very pushy, but i love the products, and love doing the shows.

could you give me a few ideas on how i could get more shows, i go to the montly meetings and the recent launch for the new 2008 catalogue which was great.

i've put an advert on e-bay, but any other ideas would be appreciated

    thanks
its only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

I'm having my first 'party' next week and am a wee bit nervous. Invites out and responses coming in. Fingers crossed.
  • If you plan a party there is an excellent online resource that is free to use. You can create a private area for your event and people who have been invited can join and RSVP. You can also setup private forums and galleries where people from the guest list can then interact. Check it out here: http://invite.evumeet.com
  • We are thinking of setting up a party plan scheme for a home Facial Galvanic Spa unit. We have no idea (other than browsing above) how many ladies attend a party, how long a typical party lasts, how much the Hostess can expect to earn and how much the Consultant can expect to earn. We have worked our numbers on 8 attendees, 2 hours, £40, £120 respectively. Are we way out?
