I am a Jamie at Home Manager in the Wilts/Hant/West Berks area.

It really is the best job I have had. I work around my family and other commitments and get paid to party.

  • Hello!

This is my first post, so I hope that you'll forgive the (very much!) newbie question!

I am interested in party plan - possibly NYR or Jamie at Home - but was wondering how the parties are organised. Is this something that the planners organise themselves and if so then how do you go about it? Mostly friends/family? Or is there an existing customer list? Or just by advertising in the local area?

    Many thanks in advance!

You normally have to find your own party hosts not always easy after you have exhausted your friends and family. Your sponsor should give you full training and support/advice. PP is of course just one of the routes to market.:D
  • Thanks v much :)

I'm really just looking for realistic ways to bring in a bit of extra cash (so that I'm earning enough to pay of some debt, rather than just paying interest....) whilst working a full time job. This seems like a good way, but I'm just worried about making the initial outlay and then not finding enough hosts!

Different Companies have different methods of retailing, some only offer party plan, others offers more ways so that if you have a lean time finding hosts for a party you can try one of the other methods to share the products and makes sales such as coffee mornings, pamper evenings, brochures through doors, approaching local groups and so on. May be something to think about. Hope you find something that you enjoy as that is also imprtant :)

  • I do a whole new concept in parties we don't sell anything, we buy gold items. Its great as the customers all leave a little happier and richer than when they arrived. There are loads of people out there who wouldn't go anywhere near a pawnshop but do have gold to sell, so a party environment with their friends is a great way to raise some cash and get rid of those broken, old and unwanted gold items too.
Hostesses are well looked after too, they receive 10% of what we buy, i.e. we buy £3000 they receive £300, they also receive 3% of all parties booked from their own, so say they also achieve £3000 bought the original hostess receives another £90.
For us a £3000 would earn us £249, very good for a nights or days work. There is no outlay and you are trained to become a proficient gold valuer too.
I moved here after many years in party plan and running my own party plan business as what you earn is actually what you earn, you have no kits to buy or top up, no hidden costs when catalogues change and new items are required and there is no pushing for sales, the customer either accepts the offer or chooses not to accept. Its easy and profitable too.

the only drawback to most of them I have found is that you have to pay them to get started , so make sure you don't already have a good agent already in your area and that you have a few people lined up to host parties before you pay any money.
That is very true and most have regular kit changes too which you also have to invest in as people buy what they see and if your original kit items are not in the current catalogue they are no good to you other than on ebay. All party plan companies should make sure you have a few parties lined up too as that is the nature of the business and if you can't find any you will constantly struggle to work. The outlay is the main reason I am where I am now as there is no outlay involved which was a refreshing change after many years in other party plan businesses.
