Yes you need to register within 3 months of starting, then you will receive a self assessment form the following April. Keep receipts etc and details of expenditure, however it is a common misconception that you can automatically claim for petrol etc. You may only claim for this once you reach the figure to start paying tax. If you are only doing one party plan job unless you are very sicessful it is unlikely that you will earn this much to start with.

If you have other paid employment then you may find that your self employed earnings and your paid earning mean that you do pay tax, and then you should keep details of mileage etc.

  • I also find home party plan selling is not only a great source of extra income... but also a great main income!

There is heaps of information on different party plans and direct selling at www.partyplan.com

Heaps of tips and tricks etc. Definitely a site to bookmark if you are looking to succeed in the industry.

I worked for Ann Summers party plan. I found some nights I was doing a 30-45min drive to someones house, for them to hardly buy anything and I was making about £10. Cost more in petrol to get there!! They also ripped me off by £500 but we wont go into that..

Am interested in doing something else so am reading through the topics to get ideas :-)
  • Sarah where do you live? I never drive more then 10-15 minutes to parties and charge £5 a head for the bingo to cover fuel etc! I think most people who have a problem with ann summers, is because their manager didnt help them. :(

Good luck with that. I am registering as a Phoenix Trader this week, so I will of course be sharing my knowledge on MSE, once I have some knowledge which may be useful to others that is :rotfl:

I got my info pack the other day and definitely want to give it a try. I am thinking of ordering pack 1, are you ordering any of the packs?

I ordered the most comprehensive starter pack, since I thought it would be a good idea to have a number of cards in stock with the hope that I can fulfil orders quickly.

I received my business kit and starter pack last week, so I now have rather a lot to do in order to become 'known' as a Phoenix Trader.
:) Thank you to all OPs :)

Not so much looking to start doing Partyplan as having one in the house with a view to fundraising. Daughter (age12) and a couple of her chums have the charity fundraising bug and want to 'do something'.:o Far from wanting to discourage this but cannot face yet another round of little car boot sales (apart from anything else I don't drive which makes life hard:p:rolleyes: ) and the cards she makes to sell are really very good for her age but unlikely to sell to anyone other than close family - just too much excellent competition out there.
Thought of hosting a party with the girls doing all the work like making out invites, helping me tidy the house:j , putting out/preparing the nibbles, getting peple drinks/coffee etc on the night so that they could justifiably say they did the fundraising not me. Obviously I would have to be the name on paper as I presume you need to be over 18 but it would still be all theirs.
Then, instead of taking commission gifts for the hostess we could request a charity donation.

Have looked at pampered chef but their goods look so expensive unsure if we would sell much. Mind you they are having some special thing in October where if your charity is Breast Cancer they are giving you a higher than usual rate of commission.

Can any party planners please tell me which plans do this and how much we could expect to make in respect of sales? Obviously I guess I can rule out Ann Summers if 3 12yo's are running the show.....

    Many thanks
