  • Yep, we want a full report! Good luck, remember you can do sub-categories (e.g. 'T-shirts' and 'long-sleeved tops' rather than all tops together) if it looks too overwhelming. And just focus on the question "does it spark joy?" – don't get sidetracked by how much it cost or when you last wore it.

    Good luck DundeeDoll!

Been a good week steadily clearing out more papers. There's a bag of clothes ready to go to CS and OH took a car load of garden waste and previously cleared things to recycling centre yesterday.

I now have a friend coming to stay for a couple of nights in just over a weeks time so the spare bedroom needs to be clear and cleaned before she arrives, plus the living room, kitchen and bathroom. That'll be the whole house then... Note to self, do not dump everything into own bedroom.

I will have help on Thursday to get winter clothes out of the loft so all summer clothes need to be washed (if not already clean) and folded ready to put into the box to go up.

So, a busy 10 days ahead for me. Best get cracking on with it.

    Well done DD :T

    Announcement klaxon

The filing cabinet has been kondoed... :T:j:beer::eek:

    Took about 5 minutes - it's been hanging around 10 months...

With it went two mixed bags of clothes, books and DVDs

We also kondoed a bike and a dead lawn mower out of the garage whilst putting away garden furniture
I wanna be in the room where it happens
  • Well done DundeeDoll! My only regret is that I didn’t record how much stuff I got rid of - not that I need to know, but sometimes when I was flagging a bit it may have helped to go ‘wow - I cleared all of this’. The benefit is in the extra space - empty drawers, being able to hang clothes up rather than force them into the wardrobe like books ... oh, and talking of bookshelves, they're another win! The best thing for me though is having the floor clear, it makes cleaning so much easier.

Well done VJsmum, I’m sure the filing cabinet is making someone else very happy!

So after decluttering my Dad’s house, I’m home & have started on mine with a vengeance!

So far today I have 3 Ikea bags of clothes I was saving for losing weight/summer/just because I don’t want to let them go but never wear them - done! Be gone, cr*p!

I carried on with clearing the porch today, just a little bit - shaking out the four coats I keep there :o and decided one of them had had it's time with me. It's a high waisted blouson, lovely and warm where it covers, but because its so high waisted, it doesn't cover much! It's made from old jeans, cut up, and fully lined in cotton dogstooth. It's absolutely gorgeous, but I'll never wear it again. I don't even need to take a photo of it, I have a great one of me wearing it I've just discovered, so I'll release it with love.

1 pair socks (i went through all my undies a few months ago so not so much to go)
8 scarves (don't worry, i still have plenty!)
1 dress i've never really been happy with
2 skirts, monsoon, beautiful, someone will be very happy
    1 long slip
    2 pairs pedal pushers
    1 skirt
    1 pair shoes -> bin
    1 blouse
2 pairs converse which always pinch my pinkies. puma for me from now on
suit mum passed onto me which i never liked
pair boots, absolutely beautiful but just not me
    pair trainers
    another skirt
    cardigan
    belt
    leather jacket
    2 bags hangers
    1 hanging rail
and now i am lying in bed with my wardrobe doors open. happy with all i survey :-) all hangers are ones i like, all are facing in, all clothes 1 per hanger except dresses with matching cardigans. i know marie's keener on folding than hanging but i have space left over and the things i prefer hanging are hanging. i have halved my shoe rack and cleaned the foot space. all my coats / jackets are also hanging and there's still space. nt to fill, just to make getting stuff out singly possible. tomorrow i will tidy the drawers and sort drawers. in the end it was nearly 5 stone of stuff that went to the CS / recycle / landfill. my house is already very happy, and can't wait for me to get going on the next list next weekend - looks like it's books. that may take more than one weekend! thanks again for all your encouragement, and well done vjsmum on the filing cabinet

    DundeeDoll - what a fantastic start!! :T :T

VJsMum - finally!! Fantastic news that the filing cabinet has gone! :j

Karma - love the sound of the jacket :)

Back from hols - paperback read on flight (well, skimmed, as it wasn't that good) put in CS pile (would pass onto my mum if it was her cup of tea, but it's forensic crime stuff and she is very much a chick-lit only person :D) Left a pair of jeans out there (deliberately! - were originally long jeans with a flaw so converted into 3/4 length for summer but they were beginning to wear on thighs and bum)

As is usual after a holiday, I've come back wanting to clear some more and get little niggly jobs done - run up to Xmas also always seems to inspire me this way :) Trouble is, the worst area is the garage - and it's bloomin' freezing out there! :D

    xx

  • Well, DundeeDoll you have got off to a flying start! Isn’t it wonderful when everything fits in the wardrobe. Like you, I still hang things – I have more wardrobe space then drawer space so it makes sense to me to use it. I’ve also rebelled against Marie in one other way, I’ve started rolling my socks into balls again instead of laying them flat. I find it much easier to store them, and I can’t believe it will do the elastic that much harm, I’ve been doing it for years.

Well done GreenT, Karmacat and Kboss as well; it’s quite inspirational to have some people starting the process from the beginning, reminds me to go back and review some of my stuff.
