KonMari 2018 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

Kitchen FINALLY finished! 20 yrs-worth of kitchen stuff cleaned, tidied, re-homed & binned! Also tidied the airing cupboard of heaps of old toiletries & sponges. I’ve so far found about 20 old toothbrushes, I have NO idea why my dad is hoarding toothbrushes!
Also started on my childhood bedroom, 3 bags sorted to go to the charity shop.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. TappingI'm finding my way back to sanity again... but I don't really know what I'm gonna do when I get there~ LifehouseWhat’s fur ye will make go by ye… but also what’s not fur ye, ye can jist scroll on by!0 -
Pity you dont live near me VJ, there was a plea in the church newsletter for a filing cabinetIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0

Kboss - I often keep old toothbrushes for cleaning awkward places.....but I don't have 20!
Boat is out of the water now so I've been down today sorting out the lockers. The storage space on a boat is very limited and odd shaped. The side lockers in the cabin ( about 18 X 8 X 10'' and there's 3 either side) have been cleared out. Liddly empty potato salad cartons come in very handy for storing small items like Fuses and bulbs, small lengths of cord, string, shock cord etc. Odds and sods etc. All surplus stuff rehomed including a large carrier bag of ropes that have been offered free! Two lockers have been freed up and I'll be moving some equipment to make it more accessible.Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
Have started clearing my huuuge table (well, it's about 18 inches x 36 inches) but it is the only table I own and is invariably heaping high with kipple, apart from the corner beside this pooter desk which I keep free for the tea tray.
Trouble is, everything is out there for a reason and the reason isn't that I cba to put it away. I have just processed a bowl full of severed lavender flowerheads from my lottie into lavender minus stalks and made a lavender pouch to keep in my pillowcase as I find it a soothing sleep aid. The bowl lives on the lottie and can go back there.
Sooo, a bit more space on The Table, but I am now weary and not ready to tackle the next piece of kipple which needs something done to it before it can wing its way to its inevitable destination.
Keep up the good works, troops. GQ xxEvery increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Silvasava - me too but every time I open a drawer, I find another 3 or 4 toothbrushes! They’re everywhere - behind radiators, under cupboards, in boxes... I’m starting to wonder if my dad is a secret hoarder!“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A. Evening all, satisfyingly I have just finished the last of a series of 7 books taken from pil's house when we cleared it 4.5 years ago. If anyone wants to read all about Anne of Green Gables best get yourself off to my local cs tomorrow as that's where they will be with a rubber band round them and a note saying what order they are written in :T
Been gradually getting rid of other stuff. I find I'm now a bit twitchy at times if I haven't put stuff in the charity box or bucket for a week or so. Not bad for a (very borderline) hoardy-type personage. It def gets easier as you go DundeeDoll. I was up the attic the other day where I had not ventured over the heat of this summer. What a shock - I'd completely forgotten how well i had done up there earlier in the year. What a lovely surprise to see it so manageable :j:beer::j
I put a pair of irregular choice shoes on the bay last week - hadnt been able to part with them up till now as looooove them but the strap is not quite long enough on one shoe for my trotters so pops open every now and then. Got over £70 for them so win 1: £70 is easier to store than a pair of boxed shoes :money: and win 2: someone else gets the pleasure of a pair of pretty pretty shoes :T
Got lots of apples this year, running out of ideas for them.
Think thats all for the daisy household tonight
Hugs to anyone who needs one

Thank you for all your good wishes. to vjsmum it was indeed too daunting to get all my clothes on the bed. i hate sorting clothes! i've almost finished the book, and have now thrown out 3 bins of paper and 2 bags of books. I will do first categories of clothes this weekend but felt no harm in trying 'do you spark joy' with my office :-)
mum came round this evening and commented on how tidy the kitchen looked :T i said i was ditching the nigerian thing that xoh's parents brought home. check whether the children would like it she said. hmmm yes best reread the 'don't tell mum' chapter! :rotfl:MrsSD declutter medals 2023 🏅🏅🏅⭐⭐ 2025

Dundee Doll - I think we've all been unwitting recipients of other people's discards! I must admit I do sometimes ask my family if they'd like something I am getting rid of but it's always couched in the terms of 'I no longer want/use/need this, before it goes to the CS is it any use to you? That way there's no pressure to accept
DH & I are going down to the boat today to take the mainsail off & get it washed and serviced - it has to be professionally done as it won't go in the washing machine lol
Luckily they store it for you until you want to collect it for the next season. We'll also do some other small jobs there today.
I need to get up in my loft too - it is much clearer but still isn't finished. I want to see if I've a pair of curtains up there that will go in my dining room. I have a chest of drawers up there that I've used for curtain storage - I'm sure there are some that could go to the hospice CS so I'll check my stock!Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
I have found my cd tower again, in the attic
I knew it was up there somewhere, but it was hidden/covered, and now I have caught a glimpse of it! I'm sooo excited! It has been up there for 7 years , every since we moved in. Husband always listens to music on his phone, dds have a karaoke machine I sometimes use for listening, but the sound isn't pleasurable; so I'm thrilled at the thought of having my own music centre again set up. It'll go in the kitchen, where I can listen uninterruptedly (husband hogs the TV at night, or has long phone conversations and refuses to go to the study) to my music.
The tealights have been donated to the local scout-like organisation, who had a 'swap-trip' last Sunday afternoon. They start off with something small and insignificant, knock on all the houses in the village, trying to swap the item for something larger / tastier. They gave me 2 large waffles, I gave them 40 tealightsThe waffles went to school with dds today.

Couldnt find the curtains I wanted but did find some very old ones (50 yrs!!) that I've put in a bag for ragging. They have faded and the sun has started to rot them so why did I keep them?Small victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0
