Ive been using a UPVC folding table as a stopgap while the renovations are going on. Just tried folding it down as I was going to CS it as not needed now and noticed two of the securing clips are broken - wondered why it had a bit of a list! Been taken to the tip today.

:) PWD, I would be tempted to put the bloomed glasses into glass recycling and keep the better ones for your own use. I can't see that the odd bit of drinking glass glass (obvs it has to be ordinary glass not lead crystal) is going to make much of a difference to the cullet.

Some cullet gets used in admixtures of other things to resurface roads, so clearly there is a market for broken glass of variable quality. HTH.

I gave away my stemware some years ago. It seldom got used and I am prone to wild gesticulations during conversations an am a positive menace with stemmed glasses. I actually own four glasss, two tall juice glasses (not a pair) and two small tumblers (not a pair either).

Not going to win any prizes for gracious living, but not really giving a hoot about that.:rotfl:

Am going to see if I can get a chazzer bag filled ready for tomorrow, I think it's important to keep things rolling. Something in, something out.

I also went into the shoebox where I keep electrical bits and bobs, including batteries, and confirmed my suspicions that I do not have a battery of the right size for my bathroom scales (now rectified) but found an old AA battery in there which had started to get a bit crusty, so that is now ready for recycling, along with the defunct coin battery from the bathroom scales.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

  • As so often, writing on here has helped clarify things for me. Why on earth am I hanging on to something that I don't particularly like!

They were actually given to me by a friend some years ago, when she got new ones (she is someone who has no compunction at all about throwing out perfectly good stuff!). I'm going to keep some of the new ones, and donate the others (they are brand-new and still in a Te$co box so I think they will sell). I think they will have to go in the bin, I don't think our local authority will take drinking glasses.

Sadly, the friend who gave them to me turned out not to be quite as good a friend as I'd thought; so throwing them out will be quite cathartic, as I won't have to think of her whenever I see them! I don't drink very often, but do have friends round and like to have enough glasses.

I think that possibly the weight of responsibly getting rid of the bloomed glasses was clouding your judgement as to the basic premise of KM, polly - does it spark joy? - glasses which are both bloomed and remind of a soured friendship do not fit that category - and you are right to get rid of them :)

We are currently out of the UK for half term holibobs, so no real KM-ing going on. I am, however, leaving behind a book which I read on the way out (It can join the other paperbacks here for guests to read) and have recycled all the freebie magazines I also brought out for reading (from smkts and B00ts) - just taking back 3 pages which I ripped out which have things on I want to look at again :) We've also used up small hotel toiletries, so have less going back on that basis (and have recycled the small bottles whilst out here :))

I've also taken advantage of the wm here and got as much washing as possible done at this end! :D

2 large bags of books, clothes and household bits to the CS today.

I have also ascertained that the other CS I support (local dog rescue charity) will take rags, cushions (nice ones) and any old duvets can go to the kennels for dog beds. :D:D

We have loads of quite nice glasses, at least 2 boxes are unopened, they were gifts from OH side of family, good time to get them gone as perhaps people might be looking for new ones for entertaining at Christmas. Off upstairs to have a poke around see what I can find:j
