Should be it's still on the Orbis website and according to the terms the investment order needs to be placed (or ISA transfer initiated) before 22nd Jan.

From memory you place the order as part of the signup process (but others who have signed up more recently might confirm - it was 9 months ago for me) so it should be good to get this on Sat/Sun but not Mon.

I am not sure if placing the the order is delayed if they need to check your ID (again others can confirm as we didn't have this issue) but I would still think it likely they would honour the deal.

If anyone misses out this time keep an eye on their website as they might run a similar offer in March/April.

    Alex

I signed up and then immediately sent a message to ensure I would be entitled to the 'match'.

This confirmation (albeit done in office hours) was received within the hour.

I then initiated a top up (split across both their funds) from their site which took 2-3 working days to be properly invested - although the balance in the current account source reflected the top up immediately.

If the first month or so goes smoothly I'll look to start drip feeding.

You quoted me while I was still improving my response, I often do that after looking at my posts. Going to start using preview button more often.

Not sure it's fair to judge any fund manager on a 1 month performance - unless it's a tracker fund that hasn't followed an index.

Since I plan to get the bonus and sell after a year I just placed a Switch order to move the £100.79 (I'm already up by the price of a chocolate bar) from Global Equity to Global Balanced. That won't prevent me getting the bonus, will it?

I doubt they care which fund you are in but it might cause the matched investment to be based on your original allocation. So you might find you have roughly 50% in each.

It matters if you have the special fee-free Junior ISA units after 12 months and switch into normal units.

    Then I'll switch the bonus.

Yeah have a look at how they have allocated it after it's gone in and switch if you want.

Investing in equities only for only 12 months is about 25% likely to lead to a loss according to this Nutmeg graph:

    That's quite an interesting graph!

Yes but there's no indication of how much you might lose. Eg 25pc chance of a 50pc loss in 1 year. Also the graph is not tailored to the more concentrated Orbis portfolio.

Also the graph doesn't consider loss of spending power from inflation.
  • Just to be clear on the terms. I appreciate you have to remain invested for a year or they can claw the £100 bonus back. But can you withdraw the £100 bonus - and leave your £100 investment still there or do you need to keep the whole £200 invested for a year.

Sorry if it's been explained elsewhere?

Yes, I appreciate the caveats. I just thought it was quite an interesting graph. :)
