  • Check your emails from Orbis. I have one on the 19/11/19 which explains this change.
Yeah I did get this email but clearly didn't understand it until I gave it a bit more thought after my previous post. I thought as I had already set the distribution to be reinvested, I in effect already had an accumulation fund and it wasn't applicable to me.

The latest President’s Letter from Orbis makes interesting reading

Many of the most rewarding investments in 2019 were those that the market considered “safe” or “predictable”.
Asset prices can only rise faster than their underlying fundamentals for so long. The longer prices outpace fundamentals, the wider valuation gaps become, making risk profiles increasingly asymmetric. While the underlying fundamentals may remain safe and predictable, a rising valuation gap will eventually change any investment into a risky and volatile one as price becomes increasingly sensitive to any change in expectations.
All of this may sound obvious, but it never feels that way when the prices of predictable assets have risen as much as they have in recent years. It feels good to own them, and not owning them is extremely uncomfortable. But maintaining a disciplined focus on the relationship between intrinsic value and price is what successful long-term investing is all about. Some even say that value-oriented investing works because it hurts.
I also read Terry Smith's latest letter and find myself more in agreement with Orbis.

Yeah not the best investment but at least you didn't lose money.
  • We still have the JISA - not added anything to it. It's sitting at about £192 I think - which is 92 more than it was originally.
  • I added to my initial investment during some of the corrections we had in the 18/19 tax year and have left it alone since. Showing a gain of 23% (including bonus)  in Global Balanced Fund. According to the statements I have had I am also yet to pay any fees due to the funds underperformance.
