apart from a bag of gala apples which will come with me in the car tomorrow my fridge is almost bare I have enough milk to make my coffee and a flask in the morning and then I am away for my holidays. Very pleased with using everything up.I did the cucumber in vinegar YorksLass and its in the fridge for when I come home in a fortnight. Tonight I am at DDs for dinner and am there from around 10.30 this morning so apart from a cuppa this morning with breakfast which will be probably the last two eggs for an omelette.

See you all in a fortnight ,keep frugalling on :)

Jackie - would it be worth popping the cucumber in vinegar in a sterilised screw top jar so you can switch your fridge off, leaving the door open of course, to save electric:money:. This won't work of course if it's a fridge/freezer as you'll need to keep that on.

Enjoy your holiday, very jealous! I can't get away as having weekly treatment at the hospital for an ongoing problem.

I do 50/50 water and white vinegar with sweetener of choice for my cucumbers.
Do I need it or just want it.

    Hello! Popping my head in.

A while back, I flung a bunch of vegetables into the slow cooker together with some water and seasoning to make veggie soup. I didn't really think about whether they would compliment each other at the time, and certainly didn't follow a recipe. Sadly, the end result was not particularly tasty and I couldn't stomach multiple sittings of this 'soup' as meals.

So, what else can I use it for? Or what can I do to make it taste better/more palatable. Any ideas please?

    TIA x

What is wrong with the soup? Would adding some spice to it make it more appealing, perhaps some curry powder or some chilli?

How about adding some pasta shapes which will give it a different texture?

I find using hm stock or a cube (veg or chicken) in the water usually makes a good soup base. It sounds as if your soup needs a bit of "oomph" and I'd agree with joedenise on adding some kind of spice or herbs (chilli powder, curry powder, cumin, mixed herbs, sage, coriander etc) that would complement your veggies. Or maybe a splash of garlic/tomato puree. Not sure if you left the veggies in pieces or blitzed them together to make a thicker soup - perhaps if you whizzed it all up in a blender it might "meld" the flavours together better. :D

Definitely I chuck a dollop of lazy garlic in and some sweet chilli sauce as well for good measure, but then I do like my soups to have the pzzaz factor :) even some curry powder or cumin willliven even the most bland soup up, or the broken bits of pasta that get left at the bottom of the boxes

Cooked a rolled rib of beef tonight from the freezer. There is enough left to do some slices in gravy for tomorrow night's dinner and there was enough left to cube up to make at least 4-6 portions of curry, could probably stretch it even further if I add some BNS and/or lentils.
