Planting all finished, even took a chance & put some geraniums out the front, two overwintered in situ have buds on so fingers crossed. One lily beetle spotted & dispatched
I must wash up the manky cast iron pot before hospital, been in soak forever but it's still not washed itself:o
Yep best get that pot washed you really don't want to come back home to it!
Good evening everyone,
 CG lovely to see you posting on here again, sounds as though you have been busy:).
The fresh air help shrug of the lingering dopeyness and I got a fair bit done in the garden. Potted on some tomato plants and all 12 wall baskets have been emptied, resecured and with 8 filled ready to plant. By that point my oomph was departing, it was getting chilly and I needed to get more compost up from the bottom of the garden so it seemed a good time to stop. I'm not sure if I'll plant out tomorrow as at the moment it's looking like more frost tomorrow night but I've loads I can get on until the weather warms up a bit.
I'm shattered now and ready for a quiet evening and an early night, hopefully no overnight spins tonight! Easy dinner from the freezer- smoked haddock fish cake, potato waffles , spinach & peas.0 -
Nice to see you back Candy
a new kitchen how exciting or will be once the chaos finishes.
I had a long hair appointment today and all the grey has been safety hidden. The town was full of Morris Dancers in all guises some with hankies others sticks and another lot in colourful rags and feathers with coloured faces also with sticks and a little more aggressive, those freaked my sister out :rotfl::rotfl: I sat in the hairdressers listening to some drummers, definitely busy in the town today with the usual farmers market and food trucks. I got a good deal from the venison stall 3 for 2 on some haunch steaks they're quite big and will probably all do two meals each pack and are usually lovely steaks. I was told probably another week and that's it on venison for a while, definitely some big legs and shanks there today which I didn't want but assuming it's because they're now just culling the males. I'm wishing I brought a butterflied shoulder which I usually marinade but I'm meant to be eating the contents of freezer not adding to it
Lunch was a tomato, mozzarella and pesto sandwich in town with my sister, where she told me how difficult CFO can be  my nephew has just come home after ten weeks in New Zealand and it was the first time ever she has lived on her own. I told her welcome to my world :rotfl:
Dinner was all YS bargains. Lamb steaks from the freezer with runner beans, tender stem broccoli and purple English asparagus. I didn't fancy new potatoes tonight but had a big plate of the vegetables all with a dollop of mint sauce

Yesterday: Made another carrot and beetroot salad (orange/ pomegranate seeds/ dried apricots/ hazelnuts/ spices). Eaten with the second third of the Moroccan chermoula sea bream.
Food waste: Last of the YS whole chicken (very dry breast).
Orange sticker bonanza: Two packs of 'Ripe & Ready' nectarines, two packs Scottish salmon fillets (sustainable), six packs 'Deluxe' British liver pate, three wedges Brie de Meaux cheese (free-range), two 'Deluxe' ready meals. :j Plus at full price a pack of British Aberdeen Angus beef mince (hardy outdoorsy breed), a huge head of celery, 'Special Buy' locking pliers set, and other bits.
Animal welfare: I *think* I have done alright this Lidl shop, but *please* do comment if not .... Not as concerned about the source of organ meats as muscle meats, because the whole animal is being utilised.
I am two thirds of the way through a 1kg tub of Lancashire Farm yogurt (free-range), so this product might be a keeper if I cannot find organic dairy at Lidl or Aldi.
Today: Lovely weather here in West Yorkshire. Well done Caronc and Farway for all the planting! :T
Snack turned into a ploughman's lunch (pate/ brie/ oatcakes/ apple/ sunblush tomato/ pickled onions). Closely supervised by  my little cat.
Chopped and froze two thirds of the head of celery, leaving the leafy heart for salads in the week. Defrosted the last of the frozen grated carrot and some of the celery, then diced a couple of red onions: mirepoix/ soffrito for a bolognese sauce.

I'm with your sis on Morris Dancers, they're not seen up here and my first and less than positive experience of them was in York when I was just 17. They were a rather "touchy-feeley" and clearly quite drunk, not helped that they were ages (if not older) than my Dad and that made it worse!! I've been wary ever since. Apart from them sounds like a good day out.
The most entertaining part of the day was watching my sister's reaction to the Morris men and women, all well behaved. We obviously have a better class of Morris Men down south. And yes they were all people of a certain age. It was good to see the town so busy and other than a quick shower at 10ish a dry day

I don't have any bread, cereal or even crackers in the house!
I've put some potato wedges in the oven to bake and I'm having a banana in the meantime.:)0 -
Good morning everyone,
Glad your Morris dancers were classier than the one's that made me wary Brambling:)
Wednesday I'd be panicking if I had no bread or crackers in the house!
Frosty again first thing but lovely & sunny now. More frost tonight, hopefully the last one of this season, before it's supposed to warm up a bit.
The garden beckons again but I'll hold off planting up containers etc, until tomorrow as I'd hate them to get frost nipped.
Pollock in parsley sauce with jersey royals, french beans & broad beans for dinner tonight. Scrambled eggs & mushrooms on sourdough for brunch.:)0 -
Afternoon all!
I had a trip out to Tescos earlier... I had one of those vouchers for a £4 off a £30 spend. Normally they send me the "money off £40" vouchers, which is just too much for me. But I was tempted in with the £30 one. I got the fresh stuff for the week, from my list, which came to about a tenner, then just wandered the aisles, stocking up on tins for the stock cupboard. I just get the "what used to be" Tesco value stuff, when available, because I find it no different to the own-brand stuff. Now my cupboard is looking much better, and I've got a proper selection to pick from.
I normally do the weekly food shop with cash, but the machine wouldn't accept my £20 note! It's a good thing I still had my debit card with me! The dodgy £20 has gone back into my purse to spend on petrol tomorrow instead, when I can just hand it to a person. I've had a good look at the note, and although it's a bit old and grubby, as far as I can make out, it's not a fake! :rotfl:
For dinner tonight, I've got a roast in the bag chicken (grabbed on Friday from Lidl), which I'll do with potatoes and some broccoli. They were only about £3.80, which for a decent sized chicken, I thought was good value. The leftovers will probably do me another 4-5 meals during the week... Good thing roast chicken is one of my favourites!Because it's fun to have money!

Well all went to pot yesterday. Friend rang to ask if I wanted some of the sour dough bread her son had made - he is on a bakery course up north - I have never had sourdough, I know loads of folks love it but have just never bothered. I wanted to offer support so agreed to meet late morning for coffee, just as about to walk out of door she rang to change venue coser to me, so we met, I had a couple of baguetter and a chocolate, orange and peanut loaf with a donation to the group. Could not have more, was not sure I would get all that in freezer, I did. We sat chatting for AGES, both retired and single so.... and as I went to loo I asked at the carvery if I could buy some of the roast meat to take away when my friend came up and said did I fancy staying for lunch there. Well of course, love a carvery. Brought home in doggy bage several roast potatoes and a couple of large boiled (with skin on), The plain ones have been chopped and mixed with mint etc for potato salad for tonight, the raost ones were chopped and added to the cabbage & leek soup, that was lunch today and another 3 portions. Think I will do crab paste pasta tonight with the potato salad.0

My Ocado delivery arrived today thank goodness. I had a sandwich for lunch and then a chocolate bar. I haven't had chocolate in a while as I was dieting for a few weeks.
Tasted delish!:)2025 GOALS
