I've dug out some mince from the freezer ... got the SC out on the worktop ... and lined up the final/small onion, 2 Oxo cubes, 6 small/medium spuds and a tin of peas, tin of carrots ... the plan is to lob that lot in the general direction of the SC first thing in the morning. Not a correct/ideal mix/match of quantities ... but it's worth doing anyway. It'll just be a stew thingy ... and I'll chuck some dumplings on it at some point too. Looks like ideal weather for it; wish I'd "known" then I'd have gone out and bought "proper carrots" and more onions and maybe AN Other root veg (whatever's on offer at 4ldi/Lidl this week).... actually, I just checked. 4ldi's got nothing ideal/cheap; L1dl's got cabbage, which isn't ideal, but could be plonked on the side to serve :)

OR ... I could knock up a chilli, but I'd have preferred more onions in it, but I've only got this one tiddler. Always the way: whatever you think of, there's always a few ingredients short of ideal.

I might make fresh mash, or I might use up the final frozen pack of mash I made in mid December. See how I feel....

MIGHT ... only might mind you .... do a quick Round Robin of both shops first thing (8am), perchance there's a stack of reduced stuff as many didn't shop tonight/aren't expected first thing.... but, chances are, I'll decide that's a bad idea come the morning.

Freezer space is starting to appear.... ideally I "need" more chips and some peas in there.... and fish fingers would go down a treat.

Mince stew with canned veg sounds good PN. My Mum, if the weather was really bad, used to make what she called "cupboard stew"- tin of mince or stewing steak in gravy , tin of spuds chopped up, tin of carrots and tin of peas (and sometimes a tin of tomatoes) served with either HM soda bread or dumplings and I always remember it was really tasty.:D

Yes, that's an old favourite. It used to be cheap - but not these days.

Wasn't it funny how quite a few chunks of that steak had floppy skin bits attached to them *grimaces*..... hated "funny bits".

Not just the tinned stuff though- I hate stewed fat and "floppy bits" used to be a regular feature in "school dinner stew" _pale_ but "suspect bits" aside I still remember as tasting good:D

Well, the snow's melting a little, rather than hard freezing. So that might be it for this winter here then :)

Onion, spuds, mince is in.. Oxos, worcestershire ... then I went along the jar line to see what else I could chuck in ... so bit of chilli, season all, garlic granules, salt, pepper... opened the fridge, there was 1/4 tin of beans in there so they went in.

Three tins lined up on the worktop to be added in a few hours, not sure which I'll toss in yet, got peas, carrots, mixed beans lined up for consideration.

    Pot's on...

Snow's soft/melting here, so not snowed in by any stretch of the imagination... unsure whether it's worth turning out for bread and whatever's got a red sticker on .... it'll be a last minute decision if I go or not.

It's snowed again here overnight on top of the iced impacted snow from Tuesday. Not nice at all. I'll be going out shortly to get cat litter which I've annoyingly ran out of and is needed by the cat who is finding it too cold to 'go' outside :rotfl:

I went to the doctors yesterday and I have an ear infection which will hopefully clear with the antibiotics I was given.

Am not sure what to have for lunch today though a tin of soup and a sandwich is likely. Dinner will be a chicken curry and rice. I got one biggish chicken breast out which will make 2 portions so one for the freezer too.

A lot of uni work to do today ready for next week's lectures. A 5 slide presentation on the Mexican prison system, reading for 3 modules and an essay to start planning for all together. Should keep me busy :D

I did do the 4ldi run .... not the L1dl one.

Bugg4h all red stickers really. There were about a dozen in total, on things I don't eat/want... but I did get a bag of mixed/cheap peppers (usually £1.25). I'm careful about stickers, I always put the reduced items together at the end of the till, with an extra couple of inches gap between them and the previous shopping, so I have best chance the till operator will press the discount button. The woman who is on the only till open in the mornings is very bad at pressing the button. Indeed, today, I checked my receipt as I'd been packing when she pushed things through - and she'd not pressed it, so I pointed it out to her and she gave me 63p cash. You really have to watch them!

I bought 500g carrots and 1Kg onions, so I've just popped about half those carrots and one more onion into the pot....the pot that smells utterly gorgeous already...

Also bought the usual bread, crumpets, milk ... and frozen chips, peas and fish fingers. Pack of choccy biscuits too :) Then it was just a 4-pack of beans and a tin of beans/sausages.... and, finally, a pack of 6 sausage rolls :)

    Very little in fact.

Not sure whether to have crumpets yet, or save them for later. Will probably have two sausage rolls for lunch.

    Good morning everyone,
Hope the meds work quickly SG <<hug>>
It's a lovely, sunny morning but still -5C:eek:, pretty icy out so I'll wait until it thaws a bit before venturing to the bin.
Leek & tattie soup with a chicken sandwich for lunch and tonight I think I'll have bangers with some of the veg & sauce from Wednesday's stew.

Snow arrived on cue last night, now seems to be thawing a bit but too dodgy to risk it on slippy slopes, steps & road, like PN and I guess most in CFO land, loads of things I could eat if I CBA

Due to snow I was on porridge breakfast again, normally on Friday I skip breakfast because I'm volunteering

Now pondering about dinner, usually my YS prowl in L's on Friday turns something up. I've taken a LO roasted chicken lump out to defrost, with absolutely no idea what I'm going to have with it
    Options are
1, full on roast using mix of fresh & frozen stuff
    2, with chips & beans
3, with baked spud + salad
    4, CBA, slice & stick it in a sarnie:o

SG saved lunch:T, I fancy something warming, and mention of soup reminded me I've got a tin of "chunky" that has been waiting just such a call to action

I came across a fruit loaf recipe on t'Internet, I've everything it needs and very likely I'll make one, what could be nicer than HM fruit loaf, with fresh cuppa & looking out at the snow?:)
