... forecast snow tomorrow.
Radar has sleet arriving around 4, snow hard on it's heels by early evening
Heavy overnight forecast
I doubt it'll get here... EDIT: Just peeked, can't see anything obvious heading my way that's of note. Bit chilly, yes ... snow, no. Looks like it heads this way this evening, but then heads out to sea and round me.
Luckily, one of the reasons I chose this house was walking proximity to a budget food source... which, at the time, was L1dl, but now there's an additional 4ldi just 1/4 mile away too ... so, I could walk .... but I've so much food that I could be snowed in for 2 months before I started counting the cans/packs to see what I had left.
Even without electricity I'd still have tins (anything can be eaten cold if you're desperate), packs of jelly, vacuum packed breads.
Even stuffing mix can be eaten cold if you HAVE to, after, say, 1-2 months without anything else/better... or custard powder mixed with cold water at a push.
And .. cous cous .... hate the stuff, but I have a bag of it. That can be eaten once steeped in any liquid for long enough (say an hour instead of 5 minutes with hot water).0 -
Having gas fire stress this aft.The blokes been fannying around with it for ages, n has now gone for parts .I'm under my heated throw , with fat Bon on my knee:rotfl:
Think it'll have to be cheese pie n peas tonight, cos I cba cooking
If you've no heating - but you have a slow cooker... just half fill it with water, put it somewhere "safe/out of the way" and turn it on full for 2-3 hours... after that you can probably turn it down a bit. Keeps the chill off, very effectively, for peanuts.0 -

Oooh I never thought of that!:D"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

It seems I might've been looking at the wrong thing.... right after my post a very cold rain started, temperature's dropped - and now the wind's whipping up!
EDIT 5.25: Now I've freezing cold rain lashing against my patio doors. Might have to "double sock" a bit later, keep my toes warm
EDIT 6.40: It appears to be snowing now, but not laying as it rained first. I didn't see that coming! It's light fluffy stuff, blowing about in the wind out there... and as I stood and watched the flakes were getting bigger.
EDIT 7.45: Garden's all under snow now.0 -
Oooh I never thought of that!:D
It does work - cheaply and well. If you've ever had a SC on in a sealed room, then walked into that room after 2-3 hours the warmth can hit you in the face.
In short... it's cheap and achievable, so worth trying if you ever want to keep a single room warm and toasty.... and, we all know they can be left on for hours and hours and hours....0 -
Good evening everyone,
I hope all CFOers in the "amber" weather area are safe & warm. CG - hope the fire is up and running and if so you can get near it for the pooches:rotfl::rotfl:
My laptop was playing up today - it's been a bit clunky since a recent update:mad:. Think I've got back to "normal" now but time will tell....
Wonky donkey is still kicking but not as badly as yesterday.
It's been blinking baltic here today, though dry and sunny it never got much above freezing all day. Thankfully it wasn't as bad underfoot and my Dad made it over for lunch and I managed a trip to the wheelie bin.:)
Last night's stew was really tasty but I'm not sure the chicken breast added that much tbh apart from some protein, I ended up fishing most of it out and will mix with a flavoured mayo to have in sandwiches to use it up. I think the rest of the bag still in the freezer will be getting used up in soup!
Made rather good (says she modestly;)) cheese & spring onion omelettes for lunch that managed not to look like a scrambled heap:rotfl:. We had them with tinned toms and some of the lovely bread that my Dad brought from the local "proper" bakery.Mixed up a tad too much filing though:o so that's another use up in the fridge! Easy dinner tonight of savoury mince from earlier in the week in a giant YP with savoy cabbage.

It's beginning to snow here too so I'm assuming you have it as well Farway as you're between myself and PN
. Currently it's very light but it's forecast to snow all night, I'm hoping it's not too bad as I have my neighbour's funeral to go to tomorrow. The family have already had to wait 7 weeks because Christmas causes backlogs. Im working from home and will work around it
Hope your chill hasn't come to anything Wednesday
I'm assuming you're confined to barracks Caronc the last thing you want is mixing the wonky donkey with ice
IT issues are continuing at work today and the one bit that was resolved last night has reoccurred this morning  unfortunately it's my job to deal with it although it's very tempting to leave it to others  the trouble is it's the busiest time of the month so we're being asked for an ETA from the business and IT still haven't worked out what's causing it. Oh well there's always gin and chocolate
Lunch today was tomato and basil soup from the freezer with crackers followed by a donut, there are so many work birthdays in January. I did get a walk in lunchtime but not enough to walk it off
Dinner was also from the freezer, jerk chicken and dirty rice I was too cba to cook veg tonightLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Hope things weather-wise are good enough for you to get to the funeral Brambling. Seven weeks is a he1l of a long time for the family to wait <<hug>>
Yes pretty much confined to barracks - slippy, wonky donkey, tendency to fall over and me are a recipe for disaster. Like "Meatloaf" I usually reckon "Two out of three ain't bad";):rotfl:0
