    Bl00dy food... AGAIN!!

I've two rounds of sandwiches boxed up in the fridge, easy food to grab/eat if I wish.

I bought 2.5kg of spuds the other day and haven't started them yet.

I bought a pack of five peppers the other day (red sticker/half price), still have three of those left, so I do need to either use one or at least slice/freeze them or something.

I've loads of ideas in my head I could make, but I either need more ingredients, or don't fancy those items. :)

Plenty of food, plenty of ideas .... but nothing I fancy.

I could fancy a "pie" so could use the other piece of frozen pastry to make another slice... but then what'd I put in it.... I have spuds so could have made a samosa filling, but I ran out of peas 2 weeks ago ... and I'd want peas in it.

I have apples, could make an apple crumble and custard I guess.... that'd use up those apples that've been lurking.... so, on reflection, that is what I should be cooking today... only time will tell :) If not, then I'll do baked spuds/beans/cheese.

EDIT: Things changed.... I won't be cooking any "smelly food" today as people are coming round.... so I'll have those sandwiches for lunch ... and, as I have to leave the house, I'll no doubt end up wandering round a shop and come out with something unexpected.... or I might not.... who knows, eh.

    Good morning everyone,
It was snowing when I got up this morning but it didn't lie and soon turned to rain. It did dry up for a bit so I had a quick trundle round the block for some fresh air. I was glad to get back in the house though as although I was well wrapped up my face was going numb with the cold!
I had a very CFO breakfast:) - a couple spoonfuls of LO pasta/sauce from last night on toast:cool:. Lunch will be a repeat of yesterday's egg mayo bagel but I think I'll make a quick pot of soup and have some of that with it. Mince & tatties with sprouts tonight or I might make a dumpling to have instead of mash.

My under stairs is "under half the stairs" as they're U-shaped; first steps/turn is inaccessible, the space is just under about 6-7 of the treads. After that the stairs turn back again and there's a "bulge" in the living room ceiling that's under those top 4-5 steps/turn. So under the stairs is already limited. Even though I'm tiny, I have to duck to get my head in the door.

I hate to disillusion you on the size of my house :D but I don't have a lot of room under my stairs either it's probably about the size of yours we just keep different things in there :). It covers about half of the steps the rest is a slanted ceiling in the kitchen, it's too low for my upright hoover ironing board

Lunch was my spicy veg soup even with a couple of dollops of yogurt it's still hot  I may have to rethink maybe use as curry sauce and hope the rice and meat helps to spread the heat  it may be responsible for me being up a couple of times in the night, hope not or tonight won't be much fun either :o

Yet again we are singing same song,;) I went in L's this morning, and wanted some leeks, on offer this week, had to leave them because not suitable as CFO fodder, big juicy ones but prepacked and just too much leek for one:(

All was not lost though, the XXL salmon fillets packs were YS, pack of 6 for 5.59:j, and the Sushi was YS down to 20p again:j
More empty shelves in L's today, I think Tuesday is a bad day in my one since new larger L's opened nearby

PN, weekend cheese offer is Extra Mature Cheddar, I've had that and it is excellent, nice & creamy. Good luck on viewing BTW

DW passed it's trials last night, it is now fully commissioned and in service:)

The wandering veg peeler has returned from holiday in the spoon section of cutlery drawer:o

    Lunch was sushi

Dinner will be salmon, with baby spuds, steamed broccoli, carrots and I think I've a parsnip lurking, plus lashings of butter

  • I just flipped at the woman from the council on the phone.:o I was supposed to have some rubbish picked up from outside my house in November and it still hasn't been done. I had to pay for this "service" too. The level of incompetence in my local council is quite staggering. I can't stand having to talk with any of them on the phone and this is about the fifth time I've called them about it.:mad::mad:

  • Anyway rant over.:rotfl:

I had a carrot and a potato left in the fridge and I made a type of casserole with the rest of the vegan cheese shreds on top. I am going to have that in a minute with some ketchup when it cools down.:)

    Good evening everyone,
:eek: Brambling re the overly spicy soup, I hope it can be "recycled" into a sauce. I did this once with a pan of rather bland mushroom soup that I added a couple of birds eye chillies to perk it up a bit. I intended to fish them out before blending but forgot:o. I was puffing like a stranded fish when I ate a large spoonful for lunch at the work next day and was still feeling the "burn" several hours later! I couldn't think of a useful way to redeem it so had to ditch it:(.
Farway - I buy leeks if they are on SO then wash, chop & open freeze on a tray before bagging. Handy for CFO amounts. I've never been that impressed with the bags of frozen ones - ok for soup but not much else so this works well for me.:)
PN- hope the viewing went well:)
Wednesday - time for an email to your councillor I think:mad:

After a mainly dry, though cold afternoon, we had a sudden & heavyish fall of snow around 4pm which lay and promptly froze:eek:. It's still freezing hard so I doubt I will be venturing out tomorrow!
Pot of mince is simmering and I cba to make dumplings so will have a portion of HM mash from the freezer. I've chicken breast defrosting tomorrow to make a stew with veg & butterbeans. I'm not the biggest fan of chicken breast (prefer the thigh etc.) but these were a surplus plack from my son's engagement do last year and needing using up. I reckon I've got five or six portions of leek & tattie soup which will cover lunches this week & some for the freezer. Can't complain at about £1.50 max for the pot full:D.

Caronc I think I'll bin the soup, it hasn't been 'kind' to my stomach :o and I don't want to waste more food if I can't guarantee I can recycle it, annoyingly I usually make 3 or 4 portions and this time it made 5 or 6 portions. Those chilli stock pots are going in the bin as well  as it was one of those which made it too hot to enjoy. Oh well a lesson learned  I just need to rethink lunch for tomorrow, I know it's not salad weather but I have pears, soft blue cheese, chicory and walnuts and I'm tempted with that

Wednesday sometimes blowing a fuse is the only way you can get things done :)

After my unsuccessful bowl of soup for lunch I consoled myself with a piece of banana and walnut cake from a office birthday and a couple pieces of Turkish delight send over by our colleagues in Istanbul :D. It almost made me forgive them for the hours I spent sorting out system errors they made before Christmas :rotfl:

Dinner was LO lentil lasagna and green beans, maybe not a good idea after the soup :o although the lasagna has mature nicely, I'm glad I have two portions in the freezer :D

It's raining here now but with threat of -2 over night I think I may skate to work tomorrow  This time of year I miss my walk to work even if its was 2 miles each way.

    Good morning everyone,
Sound sensible to ditch the soup & offending stock pot if it's upsetting your tummy Brambling.
Ice rink here this morning though it doesn't look as though there was any more snow during the night. I shan't be venturing out until the ice lifts!
Soup and toasted bagel and chicken stew for dinner. There's a portion of savoury mince left from last night that I'll probably freeze for another day.
It's my monthly budget day today so off to mutter at my spreadsheet and pay some bills:)
