SUNNYGIRL my kitchen is cluttered up with gadgets: A soupmaker , air fryer, omelette maker n electric spiralizer.I rarely use any of them :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

:rotfl: I haven't even got a toaster as I prefer the grill! I split the family opinions in two with this one when we had a lively debate over a Sunday lunch table at my parents one weekA micro plane for zest and parmesan is as exotic as it gets in my house :rotfl:

I remember my Dad putting plastic bags over my gloves when I was outside in the snow when I was about 5.
I got up about 4 so I am going to have to cancel my GP appointment tomorrow as I can't see myself getting up at 8 in the morning with all the late nights I've had!:D
I've had cheeze and crackers and will have a mug of hot vegetable bouillon when I get in from the shop. It feels very cold today, there might be snow here on Tuesday night. The one gadget that is creeping closer to the top of my "wish list" is a toastie maker. I had one for years and used it lots but decided when it died that I wouldn't replace it as it was mainly the kids that used it. I do miss a proper sealed edge, scalding in the middle toastie though.
We use our toastie maker quite often.:)0 -
PN You make me laugh reading your posts and ruminations on buying stuff and cooking it. Have you always been indecisive? I'm the other way and decide quickly and on occasion have repented at leisure as they say
I can't actually make decisions about anything, in the main. As it's "just me" .... I've nobody in the whole world who has a vested interest in the outcome of the decision.... so I have to work it all out for myself ... and decide if I believe the item will give me the outcome I was seeking
For piemakers, I decided I was attracted to the concept of popping stuff in, lid down ... wait.... lid up and serve. Then I realised, I'd still have to make those tiny quantities... and if I've made the tiny quantities then it makes more sense to just pop said item into a relevant dish in the mini oven .... and the real "issue" here is my collection of appropriate dishes. I've got "dishes that'd do" .... so there was no point in getting a piemaker because, actually, the hard bit of the job still exists.... get that pastry bought or made; get that filling from somewhere. Get the pastry and the filling out, put them together.... it's only after that bit that a piemaker appears to give any real benefit... but the actual cumbersome part of the job doesn't disappear.0 -
Food: Having made the cheese/onion slice at lunchtime, served with beans/chips ... I then did all the washing up/clearing away.
Then I thought about making sandwiches, to wrap/pop into the fridge for a random scoff later. So I boiled an egg, took four bits of bread and I made one round of cheese/tomato sandwiches and one round of tomato/egg/salad cream sandwiches. They're both in a box in the fridge.. they might be eaten today, but, if not, they're still perfectly OK for tomorrow and the next day.
Then I did all the washing up/clearing away after that lot!0 -

That's a good point and I know what you mean, even though I have the kids and some friends to sound out ideas to. It's the cost versus the perceived usefulness that I always think about - as you've done today with the pie maker. I can often spend a long time reading the reviews on Amazon and when they're good I tend to think that they're made up!0 -
Just had LO red lentil lasagne, n put crumbly Lancashire cheese, n sweet chilli sauce on top, n it was lush:D
I also have a toastie maket, n coffee machine :rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Good evening everyone,
Happy new DW day Farway.
My veg peeler was £4 y-peeler from Tesco bought to replace the one I bought from Woolies many moons ago that must have got ditched with veg peelings one day!:( The new one is pretty good though and comfy to hold which is always a plus.:)
I do like my gadgets but they have to earn their keep, though on a day to day basis I'm very much a knife & board type cook. Probably my favourite is the 1969 Kenwood Chef I bought around 10 years ago on ebay. It's a bit [STRIKE]shabby [/STRIKE] well-loved now but so sturdy and is fab for kneading dough. I would try and get another old one when this one eventually goes as they were built to last and I love their design.
The sun actually reappeared for a bit though it's foul, cold night now and I had a potter in the garden for a short time. Some of my mini daffs are beginning to bud but no sign of anything else budding yet. I do hope they don't flower too early and get frozen.
Lunch was the egg mayo bagel, salad and a cupasoup as planned. I cooked enough eggs to do a couple of days so lunch tomorrow with be a repeat of today. Just pasta to put together for dinner, as it's mainly frozen veg (peas & spinach) not much cooking or prep is needed. Mince is defrosting for tomorrow and looking at the forecast it will definitely be a mince & tatties kind of day:).0 -
I have to talk myself out of gadgets as I probably wouldn't use them once the novelty wore off and I don't have a big kitchen, there is only so much room under the stairs to store them :rotfl: I've a electric pressure cooker and airfryer as well as a small mixer and food processor the mixer and food processor both replaced ones over 25 years old but I don't think these will last as long  I haven't used the slow cooker since I brought the pressure cooker and my sister is after that to replace hers
. I did look at soup makers but I'm currently happy with a saucepan and stick blender
Hygienist visit this morning, just wishing I hadn't booked dentist checkup and hygienist within a week of each other an expensive few daysat least it's pay day
no lecture so I must be doing something right
Lunch was the soup I made yesterday and definitely too much chilli it's very hot   I'll take yoghurt in tomorrow and try and cook it down as I have four more portions maturing as I type  dinner was steak and kidney from the freezer with LO veg from Saturday, I wasn't that hungry and I had also frozen dumplings with it so I only used half the portion tonight. So LO lentil lasagna tomorrow and LO S & K Wednesday so no cooking until Thursdayi think I'll have to take another RM out of the freezer to make room, the lasagna turned out 4 portions and 2 went in the freezer

... I don't have a big kitchen, there is only so much room under the stairs to store them ...
Under there I've already got the airers, shopping trolley, pegs. laundry basket, some cleaning things/cloths, loo rolls, tools, cordless screwdriver, cordless drill, first aid kit box, some plastic flexi tubs (used for an assortment of washing requirements) and the vacuum cleaner! No space for gadgets.0
