I'm in today, lovely sunny blue skies, but bitter out

    Porridge breakfast again
    made fresh batch of yoghurt

Defrosted a rump steak overnight, now marinating for tonight's dinner.
I'll have it with frozen chips, eggs and a couple of grilled wrinkly toms

Hello all from a very snowy and cold Manchester.

Uni closed at lunchtime yesterday as there was heavy sticking snow and it’s closed today as well. I’m sure that places didn’t close for snow when I was younger. I can remember once when we lived in South Yorkshire (which is quite flat) school sent us all home early and the bus could only get so far so we ended up walking for the rest of the way. My parents had to abandon their cars as they couldn’t get through either and we all sort of met up on the way.

I’m not going out today as I’m a little wary having fell over in the snow last year and broken my leg and kneecaps. Lunch was soup and a sandwich and dinner will be bubble and squeak as there is deliberate leftover mash and cabbage from last night’s beef casserole. I’ll serve the bubble with a fried egg and some beans :D

I also have a crumble in the oven (must be a Wednesday thing as I made one last Wednesday too ;) )

Edit: my lurgy has improved in that I’m not coughing anymore but I have earache in one ear and my neck feels sore on the same side so a visit to the doctors tomorrow may be in order.

    On the council web site?
Some are more active than others, one of ours has own blog, what's on etc, others are invisible, even at election time

My new loose leaf tea arrived this morning, Portsmouth blend:D blended for the area's hard water

I made a pot at lunchtime, must say it's lovely, I made it a builders' brew, but it's not harsh. I've also bought Kentish breakfast blend, that's for tomorrow morning trial

Dinner on track, I'll get rump out of fridge soon, get to ambient before I cook it

PS, my wheelie bin has been left a few doors down, and the garden wheelie not yet emptied. Will I be joining Wednesday?
Before when garden bin was not emptied they gave me an extra month free, we have to pay for garden waste clearance

PN, weekend cheese offer is Extra Mature Cheddar, I've had that and it is excellent, nice & creamy. Good luck on viewing BTW

Yes, I spotted that on the Food thread... intending to get some. I missed it just before Xmas, can't remember if I CBA or if I went late Sunday and they'd sold out (I think it's the latter).

I bought some "cheap cheese" in the run up to Xmas, still got half that block... but I'll get two new blocks at the cheap price.

Yesterday I ended up eating the two rounds of sandwiches and, later, I nuked some spuds and topped them with beans and cheese ... but ... I made an error. The beans I had in the pot weren't "quite enough for what I had in mind", so I decided to open a fresh can and use 1-2 spoons from that too ... trouble is, I opened a tin of sausages/beans...

Oh well ... so today, for lunch, I had sausages/beans on a crust of toast.

For tea I used the 2nd of the pizza bases (twin pack) that I'd opened 2+ days ago - and topped it with half an onion and some cheese. It'd have been nice to have put some peppers on that, but as I'd only just chopped the three remaining peppers and put them in the freezer to freeze, I was loathe to pull them out so quickly and get a few bits out :)

Yesterday, while out, I also loaded up with lots of chocolate/sweeties and chocolate biscuits. I've scoffed my way through half a packet of the 4ldi hob nobs already .... and an entire bar of their version of "mint aero".

Re viewing: Best they've seen.... others to see .... no rush as no buyers think they need to decide quickly.
  • I just went out to the post office and then bought some lemons, cucumber and a plantain from the shop. I wanted onions but they didn't have any.:(

It feels really cold out there!

I just ate my pasta when I got in, I might have something else later as well.:)

    Good evening everyone,
Shame about the lurgy ramping up SG sounds wise to get checked at the Drs. Mine is almost but not completely away. I'm due a GP review mid month and will mention it if it's still lingering.
Glad you found your councillor Wednesday, I've had to contact ours a few times on behalf of the out of school club and have always found them pretty helpful.
Hope you enjoyed your steak dinner Farway, what a PITA re the wheelie bin hope it gets sorted out.
Fingers crossed re the viewers PN:)
We had a bit of thaw earlierwhen the sun came out for a couple of hours.:) Most of the snow is away now though it's freezing hard again this evening but hopefully it won't be as icy underfoot tomorrow. However, looking at the weather in America I'm not going to complain too much about ours:eek:.
Annoyingly wonky donkey decided to jump out of its stable this afternoon:mad: so it was back to bed for me for a few hours until it calmed down. It's been reasonably well-behaved for a couple of weeks so it's probably due for an outing:(. Thankfully I'd done all the prep for my chicken stew which is now simmering away and will just need the browned chicken & butterbeans added shortly before I want to eat. I got a bit carried away with veg and it's a big panful, spares of that can form the basis of future stews or soups. There is probably more chicken than I need too, however I'm not keen on reheated chicken breast not for any food safety concerns, I just think it goes dry and woolly tasting. I'll fish out any surplus chook and will use cold in sandwiches etc. I seem to be building a stash of cooked food in the fridge, tomorrow will be "freezer tetris" day to get it stashed:eek:. Weather permitting my Dad is coming over for lunch tomorrow he's requested omelette, hopefully that should mean no leftovers:).
