I certainly don't need any encouragement to eat sausage rolls, crumpets etc! :rotfl:

Welcome Shoogly Peg  you'll find our cooking varies from sausage rolls to steak with vegan and vegetarian ideas added in as well :) and we have been known to encourage the eating of things like crumpets and choc ices, I'm blaming Farway if trifle appears in my menu planning soon :D

How did you cook your lamb shoulder Caronc? I think lamb tastes better cooked on the bone in a large joint but rarely cook it  I walked away from a YS shoulder in W*itrose on Wednesday looked lovely but no room in my freezer for a whole shoulder :(. The lamb steak was one of four half price ones I brought a couple of months ago I do like how quickly they cook when I cba :D
It was a partially boned shoulder Brambling which I slow roasted with red wine, garlic & rosemary for 3 hours. It was beautifully tender:). I've another one in the freezer but will keep it until I'm cooking for a crowd as that one gave 10 generous portions though the frozen one is marginally smaller.
    Thanks Brambling

Welcome to the thread Shoogly - are you a fellow Scot?
"Santa" brought me a long handled toasting fork so I'm looking forward to toasting crumpets on the fire. I've crumpets in the freezer so good to go when I fancy one:)

    Good morning everyone,

Another grey, raw & damp day here. Apart from some cupboard clearing out I've no plans. Lunch will be a sarnie and I'm swithering between bangers or chicken thighs tonight.

Sitrep, yesterday's beef stew was excellent, and the dumplings were super as well. Plenty of stew left for LO meal and freezer
Any volunteers for the manky & in soak pot?
    Thanks Brambling

Welcome Shoogly, pizzas also feature, and for the brave, cold LO for breakfast, you are excused this LO cold pizza CFO option as a non breakfast person:)

Back to dull day, back to porridge breakfast

I'm following Shoogly lead for lunch, grilled cheese on toast, may add HM chutney topping

With stew safely made I'm reserving seconds for tomorrow, dinner today is real CFO CBA, beans on toast.
I'll pop a couple of eggs on top because I bought a dozen thinking I'd need them for XCFO, never did, so it's use up time

Nil ratty to report, thinking more likely it's gone to ratty death, via sewer Styx

Caron, your signature, what is GC please? I bet it's obvious but I can't figure it

Mouse tales - : he's still here! definitely in the cavity wall between me and next door. I set 3 traps in the kitchen but still no more sign of it in there. I'm not sleeping much as when I hear it in the cavity, I'm worried it's trying to get in!!!!!! I've kept the cat in at night, and last night even allowed him to come in the bedroom . He usually gets shut downstairs at night.
I don't have a cat flap, so he's not brought it in. I'm worried to block any holes up outside in case the mouse dies in the cavity and it smells!! Same reason not put poison down. I don't know where it's going for food unless it goes outside. But I'm worried it might chew my electric wires.:(

I was in work later than normal yesterday so took some of the lo potatoes and onion for tea , and had a bag of crisp.
I was still hungry at 9 PM so had 2 toast with seriously strong cheese spread.
I picked up a small YS chicken for £2. And a Spanish chicken and patatas bravas rm.
    I'll have rm.for tea today.

Just done some washing. Wondering wether it's worth pegging out. It looks rather grey!

When I put rat poison down in my greenhouse a few years back, mice only took a few steps before they died, powerful stuff
If you do use it, you'll have to keep the cat away though, it's anti coagulant and will do for your cat as well as rodents

How annoying wort and they sound so loud in the quiet of the night. I like in a old terrace and the lofts have a "fire space" between each house which means in cold weather mice rattle up and down the row. Not been bothered for a few years though but found traps in the loft worked quiet well. That said the traps caught the larger house mice and I've never caught any of those in the house just the small field ones so they might just be in the loft/rafter space but you can here it in the cavity.

Yes "shoogly" does seem to be a "north of the border" phrase;):)

After a mildish day it's got really cold tonight, don't think it will freeze though but come pretty close. House felt decidedly chilly though as I'd had the windows open to get rid of a residual fishy whiff.
I made a decent inroad to the cupboard sorting, took bleeding ages though. I have so much wrapping paper and man,.many gift bags etc. but they have all been tidied are a now in the one place. I'm annoyed though as at Christmas I couldn't find cellotape so bought some, found my stash and now have 5 rolls:o. Round two tomorrow......
I decided on a chicken thigh tonight tray baked with various veg as I cba prepping much. Despite the freezers being laden and the fridge fairly full I realised I am running of staples and most veg apart from spuds. I've placed a grocery order for Monday which will hopefully keep me going for a bit and cover food for friends coming over next Friday for a catch up.

:) this brought back childhood memories Caronc :) winter Sundays were roast lunch followed by a long country walk and arguing whose turn it was to toast bread in front of the fire when we got home probably watching black Beauty, Follyfoot or a more cultured Austin or Dickens on TV. The toaster also got the warmest spot in the bungalow as the fire was the only heat :D toast tastes completely different done over a fire even the black bits :rotfl:

I met my friend in Chichester today for a [STRIKE]gossip[/STRIKE] catch up and lunch we didn't get much further than the coffee shop :D so only a toastie for lunch and too much tea. We let her husband and son buy us a scone when they came to pick her up, we were good it wasn't with cream and we shared the scone. Dinner was thanks to Farway putting the idea in my head a HM pizza using naan bread from the freezer just a basic veggie one as I was a little CBA :rotfl:

I've taken some chicken thighs out of the freezer with some chicken livers so jerk chicken and dirty rice for dinner tomorrow if I get off my backside and marinate the chicken :p

Why when I've ate from the freezer all week does there still seem to be no wiggle room
