I don't tend to see the owl just hear it especially in bed with the window open, I don't suppose after 13 years it's the same owl but there has always been one. At the end of the summer walking across the fields behind her house at twilight my sister and I stood for ages watching an owl hunt across the field in front of us

Cold start today I needed to defrost the car before I could leavethe cold and damp and probably too much wheat is causing issues with my joints at the moment
it started last week in my hands and is working its way around elbows then feet and tonight my knees tweaked on the stairs. Some of it self inflicted because of the wheat and carrying too much weight and some of it inherited from my mum :cool: she shared her arthritis with most of her daughters to various degrees.
Lunch was more of my minestrone soup I've enough for tomorrow lunch and a portion for the freezer. I must remember what I did different as it's really nice :think: that's the problem when you add 'a little bit of this and a little bit of that' when cooking :rotfl:
Dinner was a mixture, LO pulled pork with HM coleslaw served with stir fried Cavolo Nero using a recipe from the W*itrose newspaper with chilli, garlic and an anchovy fillet which added the salt element without being fishy, I had a jar of anchovy fillets but won't buy them especially for the recipe.
Today I was reminded that chilli stays on your hand even after washing up'I must not rub my eyes after cooking chilli ' :cool:

It's not the big things that pee us off .... like world peace and global rampaging diseases... it's the day to day annoying minutae that really winds us up ... like a bus being 1 minute late, or a pot lid not sealing.

Not conveniently so, it's a "planned trip out" involving studying the map to memorise how to get there/back first.... I do like Wilko, but am rarely able to go there more than once every 2 years. They do a nifty 0.25ml Pyrex measuring jug that's on my list to get .... and I want to check/compare then choose between their 2 litre and 3 litre glass bowls as I really need a large bowl that's microwaveable to do stuff like prep 500g of ingredients quickly/easily before I throw it into the SC. These are both items "bookmarked to try to get round to/not forget for Xmas". I'll go and look now for their rolling pin and bookmark that too
When all your dishes and implements are tiny and "just the right size for one", when you suddenly wish to mix together 500-600g or so of stuff ... and cook that volume in the nuker for any reason, you realise that you can't as the largest microwavable dish you have is a 1 litre Pyrex jug.0 -
Just for the record, the way I envisage using a rolling pin won't be to roll out acres of handmade pastry .... it'll be more to squash down and roll out a slice of bread to make a "wrap" or quiche base from ... or to roll out a small tortilla to make it "just a tiny bit bigger so it fits this dish better". Or, to roll out a single tiny pie crust made from just spoonfuls of ingredients. All tiny jobs.... where I can just lean on a tiny rolling pin and push forward once or twice and it's job done..
With the bottle idea, that'd never suit me ... as it's tricky to control one as they do tend to taper a little bit, or you've got the chunky end in one hand and the neck in another. I "need" consistency of grip really.0 -

If she's only just realised "don't buy things you don't like" .... then she's even dimmer than she looks! This article could be headed "Woman Has No Clue .... About Anything".
Then there's all the stuff "I don't mind having one if they're being handed out, but I couldn't eat a whole box/bag". I'd eat a cheesy biscuit.... but couldn't face a lot of them. I'll have a mince pie if they're coming round on a plate, maybe, but don't really like mincemeat. Cake, never been a fan of marzipan/icing and most people's fruit cakes are too dense.
Everything on her list are things I don't buy ... but I also don't buy cheese. I like cheese (hard), I am not interested in a vast selection of cheeses ... nor a cheese board... and I'm never having port, never having a cheese course.
Xmas adverts are full of things it'd be easy to buy on a whim... because of something historical, or sounded like a great idea ... so I am harsh in creating my list. My list is "pretty much regular food, so there's no trouble using it up/getting it eaten, BUT, a few bits and bobs that demonstrate I did give it a thought that it's Xmas and did make a tiny little extra effort on a couple of things".
For grocery shopping/recipes in general, there's a lot of reliance on "core foods" for most cooking/events that are just foods I don't like/won't eat. As it's "just me" with nobody else ever to please I have to completely avoid any instance of buying/using them as you can't buy, say, "one small button mushroom" as a token sliced mushroom in a chicken/mushroom pie.
For Xmas food it seems to me to be mostly bacon-laden, or ham-laden. So many meats being covered in bacon.... and I think "why? you can't taste the actual meat you bought... it just tastes of bacon".
I don't like: bacon, ham, mushrooms, cream - and so will never have those in the house to "use a little bit". Look through many recipes and they're often there for taste... "fry off a few lardons" etc....0
