12.35 ... still CBA to put two slices of bread into a toaster and press a lever :)

Maybe beans on toast later.... it'd be nice with a bit of cheese, but CBA to grate any :)

Another XCFO hoover around L's this morning, bought a reindeer face shaped cake:o, I know, but it's going to DDs for The Day and they said bring a cake, so that's one job done, it was reduced to £5.99 so sort of MSE https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/MiddleofLidl.htm?articleId=18599
Plus another stollen, bog standard this time

Last volunteer day before Christmas, also splashed out on some mince pies for our group, luckily only 4 of us there today, so two pies came home with me:j

Lunch was fried egg sarnie, yolk whole & duly spread over my sarnie, followed by one of the mince pies

Dinner, some sort of breaded fish, cod fillet or their fingers, depends what leaves me more freezer space, + frozen chips and maybe nuked frozen peas

12.35 ... still CBA to put two slices of bread into a toaster and press a lever :)

Maybe beans on toast later.... it'd be nice with a bit of cheese, but CBA to grate any :)

Hope you've strength enough to open the beans:D

Love it. If I'd been told to bring cake and saw that, that's the one I'd get!

I've got to vacate my house .... had 3-4 hours' notice ... so been faffing around putting stuff away etc... a huge bag of damp washing will be leaving with me :)

As I didn't expect any more "visitors" this side of Christmas, I'd stocked up on some tinned stuff and jars of coffee.... and so had to find somewhere to hide those, so they're in the shed :)

On the basis I have to "disappear" for 20 minutes or so, a quick mooch around the nearest shop or two is in order... I'll be looking for "something quick/easy for tea" so I can just come in and nuke it. However, I do expect to be disappointed.... you never know until you get in there what's available, what you fancy :)

I might specifically head for the frozen/75p meals and call that "job done" ... or I might get lucky. Who knows. It's all a lucky dip. I'll be there too early for the reductions really, I suspect 5-5.15 is their "peak time for people popping in on their way home from work" and they reduce after 6 or so.

When selling your house, nobody ever budgets for "stuff I bought that I didn't actually need, because I was killing time walking round the shops when there was a viewing" :)

Got some things that were on the list .... and some not.

Tea is some Lincolnshire sausage rolls. Four snack sausage rolls (pack of 10).

Bought some tiny glass dishes ideal for making little desserts in from £land. I think there's three in there... also a small metal collander. I had hoped to get a rolling pin as sometimes that seems like a handy thing to have ... but they didn't have any. Wouldn't spend more than £1 on one to be honest. Never had a need for one before.... just thought it "might come in handy" as clutter does :)

I also brought home with me ... a bar of chocolate and a bar of "Aero" from 4ldi + a 250g bag of my (now 2nd) favourite choccies.... there's a slim chance they'll make it to Xmas Day, but I'm not taking bets.

Also got monkey nuts from £land because ... well, they were just £1 and the bag looked smaller than the usual ones I buy. Also, the usual ones I buy "aren't all that", so these might turn out to be spot on :) Not had a DECENT monkey nut for donkeys' years.

NI my sister picked up the camembert in a pot in aldi but when she looked where the normal cheese was it was only 1£ something,in a cardboard packet. Last day off today not sure what I'm doing, except to go to the cemetery, with dd2 as it's hubby's birthday. Tonight I've got a meal with my niece for her graduation. Quite fitting really as she's hubby's goddaughter.

Aldi camembert is the best:p n believe me I've sampled the rest :rotfl:

  • Pastures - I must admit that Waitrose cafe was quite handy when I was having house viewings on my last house.

Cue for me vanishing off to have a free cup of coffee there and - job done. The EA would usually phone me up whilst I was sipping my drink in order to tell me how it had gone.

Do you have any sort of equivalent? Failing that - a library or community centre or something nearby you could go and hang out in until the viewing is over?

Waitrose is £2 to park for starters....

    Library is £1 to park.

No community centre (do they exist/not sure what one is).

It's free parking where I went - and just 1/4 of a mile away. And I did get some handy things.... bag of onions for starters, although after today do I dare COOK onions (in the SC) in case I get another "short notice call"..... also got tomatoes...

Another unusual purchase was the 4ldi version of "season all" ... which was used in one of the recipes I was pawing through.... so I bought a jar on a whim (60p 4ldi -v- £1.60 Schwarz).

    Good evening everyone,
Christmas cards are still not written, it's one of those tasks that I have to be in the mood for and I just wasn't today:(. I had a bad case of "post lots of meds" twitches which it very hard to concentrate.
I see the weather is turn much colder in the nex couple of days so I think it's a job for a cold evening this week with the stove burning, a glass of something and some music on:).
Lunch was a repeat of yesterday's egg mayo and tomato bagel and tonight it's the FR chop, mash, runner beans, mushrooms and savoy cabbage.

PN- tall glass bottles make fab rolling pins. Especially good for rolling pastry if you pop in the fridge to chill before hand. Good buy on the pudding dishes. Most of my small glass pudding pots came with an offer Tesco did a couple of years ago for Creme Brulee at 2 for £1 or just over. The offer last a good few weeks and as my son was still at home I bought two every week while it lasted. :)

But I've not got any tall glass bottles :)

I've opened the pack, there are 3 of the little dishes in there. They're just glass and like a wide topped finger dipping bowl... so they'll do great for portions of desserts, or as dip bowls. I can't see them on the £land website. Probably 1.5" tall and 4" wide at the top. Not good for banana custard as that's best served in half pints :) Certainly about 2x the portion size of, say, buying a little pot of individual trifle.

Not entirely dissimilar to these, but a set of 3 and not 4.

I'll also try them in the SC ... see how robust they are. The thing with cheap stuff is they never tell you what it's safe for! Ditto using it to nuke... have to try it. At 33p each one can afford to take a risk/trial it....

Ditto not sure how they are in an oven/under a grill....
