  • That is a possibility for some people. I wouldnt do it myself - I work on the basis of "Ask any tradesperson I've got round anyway that might (should) be able to do whatever-it-is" and then say "How much do I owe you for that bit please?". A frequent response is "Never mind - forget it - it's only taken me a couple of minutes to do it" and that's what my plumber said about that.

I have had him do another minor (but not quite so minor) job before now (which I mentioned in advance) and asked him how much extra he wanted to be paid for that and got billed an added £20 for it (which I felt was fair enough for the job concerned).
  • We got my husband's nephew to fit our new smoke alarms. One of them kept going off for no reason before that!

I've had peanut butter on seeded toast so far today. I'm about to have a glass of almond milk and a mango.

I only got the shopping yesterday and realised that I need about £10 worth of stuff at the Coop. Reading the thread on here about how much people spend each month was quite eyeopening! We spend a fortune every month. Now we are debt free I haven't been keeping on eye on that.:o

I just did a face mask and am about to have a shower and go out when my hair is dry.

I'm going to have two tortilla wraps with chickpeas, spinach, tomatoes, coriander and mustard when I get in.

the cat discovered cat mint yesterday when we were gardening, he spent ten minutes rolling in some off cuts totally not concerned by the usual things that freak him out like the neighbours and dog walkers he then had a manic 10 mins running between three front gardens like a cat on speed and then he was came slowly down, think Dylan from magic roundabout not even the boiler man made him hide :rotfl: I tried sniffing it but it doesn't work on humans, I did see another plant half price at the garden centre, does that make me a pusher, providing drugs for him :rotfl: it's a shame it will die back for the winter

    Good afternoon everyone,
When it comes to high up things I'm every so grateful to have my tall nephew nearby:).
I'm feeling very :mad::(:( woke during the night with a horribly sore face - yup cold sore is in fact the shingles, talk about lousy timing.:(:( Have seen the Dr and got meds and the ok to still go tomorrow night provided we alert any pregnant women:). I'm now running behind with my list but the kids will help tonight if need be.
No breakfast and cheese & pickle on toast for lunch. CFO resumes on Monday - hope you all have a good weekend:).

  • Hope you're feeling ok caronc, & certainly well enough for the weekend.

I'm home from work, just relaxing.
I was planning to go 4ldi & do my big shop - then realised I'm away this weekend & all next week I'm working til 8pm. So there's practically no point buying in food, esp fresh, as there'll be no one here to eat it.

I'll do a small shop on Sunday for packed lunch stuff & breakfast stuff. By the time I get home at 9pm, it's way past teatime & I'll lose a lb or two from living off sandwiches for a week...

First real frost today, white on cars & grass, lovely & sunny now, could be summer just looking out from inside a CH house

Into L's this morning, main task was buy a smoke alarm battery, none there:( every type but them
Bought consolation YS of 6 mini pork pies:o

Found more YS in the Co-op, Mcvitie dark choc digestives, huge packet, I'll be applying them to my waist over the next few days;)

Lunch was a couple of the YS pies, with piccalilli.

Dinner, thinking of a roast one, but the thought of prepping it is turning into CBA and could finish up with the last of the LO chicken and ???

I made chicken soup yesterday, not quite completed, and CBA to get on with it, maybe tomorrow
It then hung there waiting until "someone suitable" came along to put it right. So my plumber did it in the event - when he came along for the boilers annual service.
Now ther's an idea, I've gor the boiler bloke coming in a fortnight if I fail to get a rellie before then. He's a nice helpful bloke so could ask

PN] "This would be an ideal Volunteer Job for the likes of Age Concern. £5 donation wouldn't be missed by most"

We do have something like this locally, forget it's proper name, but I think there is a set fee or it would get abused by some, same as hospital cars, give 50p for a round trip of 15 miles and think they are doing you a favour

The little 5 year old I tutored yesterday was a real sweet little dot. We just played a few maths games together. She doesn't strike me as being behind... She's just little!

Spent today teaching at a local school... It was actually one I worked at about 5 years ago. A lot of the same people there, which was nice to see. :)

Just waiting now for the newspaper photographer to arrive... He/she is due at 5... I've mentally scheduled them an hour, because I've then got tutoring at 6:30.

Looking forward to a weekend of nothing much!

  • I've still 2/3rds of a loaf of bread to get through. After hearing from you all about freezing it, which I've never done before, that's what I'll do in the morning. After having a couple of slices for breakfast.

And yes, PN, it is a pain having to plan food weeks in advance.
When I big shop, it's usually to stock up on things like rice, pasta, tin toms etc. & Things like onions & garlic that keep a fair while & I can knock up into a HM meal. I'll usually get some fresh veg or salad stuff to use up in the first week or two, but this coming week there's just no point. All I need is sandwich stuff.

I am thinking of trying to batch cook some food I can reheat at work for tea - it's pretty miserable living off nothing but cold sandwiches for a week, & the works canteen stops serving hot food at 2pm...

Maybe it's time to knock up that curry using the chicken I froze (will have to get some rice tho).

He's probably put 30 minutes in, TOPS. They get paid a fixed/low rate for a photo shoot, so want to be in/out/gone ... as they still have to have spent time driving to/from you, then offloading, backup up, checking, processing and sending the photos off....

Well, you can imagine my surprise when he stayed very nearly an hour! Drove all the way from Birmingham as well, which is a good hour 20 away.

He rearranged my living room, set up various light reflectors and took hundreds of photos! Every possible item, every item being held by me, in every possible position.

Lovely guy as well. We had a nice chat. :)

Certainly a different experience for a Friday night.

Saw him out, then pretty much straight off to tutoring! Now slobbing out!
