Good morning everyone,
"Operation Buffet" starts properly today so when I've finished my cuppa I best get cracking. Chilli con carne & pulled pork to cook today.
I also need to get my proverbial in gear in the chores department too as the place is needing hoovered and mopped.
S*ds Law has of course kicked in and I've a beauty of a cold sore come up overnight  , I reckon it might be a polyfilla job under my usual "going out"slap on Saturday.
I'm keeping my food easy today, egg sandwich for lunch and eithera bought pizza which I have in the fridge or breaded pollock from the freezer for dinner.0 -
Good luck with Operation Buffet Caronc!
Sounds like you'll be busy the next few days!
Currently raining here... Not going out until about 4:30-ish, for tutoring at 5pm. Got my first session with a new little girl. She's only a Year 1 (5 year old), so just a diddy one. I've got a couple of games and simple activities for her to try, just to see what level I need to work at with her.Because it's fun to have money!

I've had a Nakd bar, a glass of almond milk and a cup of coffee.
I wanted to get organised so I looked in the fridge and freezer and am using up a few things. I'm cooking some mashed potatoes, Quorn nuggets and some veg sausage rolls. I'm having to use up some cherry toms and probably have some olives too.
Bit of a mish mash!:rotfl:PasturesNew wrote: »
e.g. mustard... if I bought mustard I'd only actually use 1 teaspoon a YEAR. It's all cupboard clutter when you never buy something and use it all in one go.
I was going to buy some at the shop later! I fancied it in a wrap tonight.:)S*ds Law has of course kicked in and I've a beauty of a cold sore come up overnight  , I reckon it might be a polyfilla job under my usual "going out"slap on Saturday.
Someone told me about tablets called Lysine and I take a few tablets a week and notice that I don't get cold sores at all usually now. You can get it at Holland & Barrett.:A0 -
Woke up to my smoke alarm pinging, low battery.
One thing I never thought would happen when I was younger, I can't now safely replace the battery because the alarm is on the landing, and I would need to be up step ladders with arms above my head, just waiting to over balance & tumble down the stairs:(:
No worries, luckily I've got tall & fit rellies around:)
Usual porridge breakfast
Wet old morning, warmer though. It was tipping down while I was in town, needed odds & ends, plus the replacement strip lights, I'll leave the battery until L's, some cheeky bu66ers in town want nearly £5 for a battery, a new smoke alarm is less than that
Nothing YS tempting, but did get some fresh veg, could be a "proper" dinner over the weekend. Plus the greengrocer had a bag of mushrooms, clearance, OK for soup / pie etc, grabbed them
Lunch was cheese & salad sarnie, again
Having found YS mushrooms the chicken soup idea is now GO. Carcass in the pot bubbling away. I'll sort that later, add some mushrooms, celery etc & I think I've a spot of frozen sweetcorn that need clearing out somewhere in the freezer
Someone mentioned baked spuds the other day, triggered me, bought some bakers today, tonight's dinner is 1/4 LO chicken, with baked spud & salad
I can bake more beetroot while the spud is in the oven, very MSE:money:
PS, off to check on Nimbus, sounds interestingEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Back to CFO, my BIL picked my sis up just before 11am, complaining about heavy rain and accidents which meant he couldn't come up his usual route. He said there was torrential rain your part of the world Farway the traffic slow down to 20 coming off the M27. Visitors are nice but I like my home back, so does the cat :rotfl: the cat discovered cat mint yesterday when we were gardening, he spent ten minutes rolling in some off cuts totally not concerned by the usual things that freak him out like the neighbours and dog walkers he then had a manic 10 mins running between three front gardens like a cat on speed and then he was came slowly down, think Dylan from magic roundabout not even the boiler man made him hide :rotfl: I tried sniffing it but it doesn't work on humans, I did see another plant half price at the garden centre, does that make me a pusher, providing drugs for him :rotfl: it's a shame it will die back for the winter
The downpipe from my flat roof extension is blocked so I have a roof full of water, I'm told by my BIL it would be 'easy' for me to do, I was already shouted at by my sister for standing on the old garden table to see if I could unblock from the top, I'm too shortim not happy with dismantling the downpipe so I'm currently waiting a call back from someone, unfortunately it's 'too' small a job  and I really want someone from checkatrader or the likes rather than Bodge it and Scarpers
I cooked a family dinner last night it was one sisters birthday and the other sister has hers at the weekend, as a glutton for punishment I did a Chinese meal  it was nice but hard work, I was expecting more LOs as there was duck pancakes, followed by salmon, chicken and pork belly mains, there's just a little chicken chow mien (we never knowingly under cater) , my nephew was sent home with LO key lime pie as I refused to leave it in my fridge. At least my freezer has some more room now. I nearly smacked one of my sisters who asked why wasn't I cooking something easier, like a casserole  maybe it was because it was her birthday and I know my BIL doesn't eat it, their finances meant neither wanted to eat out  at least we weren't interrupted by trick or treaters the advantage of living in a close, or maybe having a witch in the house :rotfl:

Not much going on around here today... I suspect a bird has perhaps made a home in a pipe in one of the walls between me and the neighbours. Keep hearing random, quite loud, fluttering and scraping around. It was happening yesterday as well.
I've done a few emails back and forth, organising my attendance at the 'Shrouds of the Somme' event in London next week... Have been told I can arrive any time from 7am... More like 9am seems a bit more do-able! Been asked if I can meet with Channel 5 at 10:30, so as long as I'm in time for them, it's fine. I'll aim for 9am though... I've just got to organise the Mother... She's been invited to join me for the evening "official" opening ceremony, which isn't until 6:30pm. No point her coming down to London with me at crack-o-dawn o'clock, just to kill time for 9 hours, so got to work out how to get us both there separately. No problem to organise me, but she's a complicating factor!
I was expecting to talk with the Sunday Express yesterday or today, but they haven't yet called. We'll see! Never rely on the media hacks!
Got booked to do a day's supply at one of my previous schools tomorrow. The children I used to teach there, as Year 1's, will now be in Year 6! It'll be nice to hopefully lay an eye on them, and see who I recognise! I've got Year 4 for the day. Then I'll be out tutoring, so tomorrow will be a busy day!
Anyway, need to entertain myself for an hour or so, then tutoring my new girl.
Things seem busy-busy at the moment, with one thing or another! But should all calm down the tail end of next week.Because it's fun to have money!

Everyone's days have sounded busy! Hope all is well with you all?
PN, I did think twice after your comment on the fray Bentos. I think I did buy one a few years ago for nostalgia's sake & found it very watery & salty & hardly any chicken in it. I'll keep away from them.
Today has been my first weekday of not working extra hours of overtime, & it's been bliss coming home at a decent time & just relaxing & enjoying being home.
The house feels like a bit of a bin, with so many chores to do & tidy up etc. But, tonight I'm just relaxing. Tomorrow I'm on a half day so will be home by 1.30pm.
I'll finally be going to 4ldi to do my big shop for the month.
Food today was coffee for breakfast, a morning snack of a small packet of quavers treatsize choc buttons. Lunch was a treat from the works canteen - cottage pie, veg & gravy & a twirl for £2 (with a meal voucher). Haven't decided on tea yet. Might be another frozen Chicago town mini pizza (done in oven not microwave) & HM wedges - I've 4 Charlotte new potatoes to use up that.
Tea will be later, tho. I'm enjoying just sitting at the moment.0 -
Well, the Sunday Express did call in the end, but not until 4:45. Ended up talking to them whilst sat in the car, just arrived at tutoring!
They are sending a photographer round tomorrow evening, so I better do a spot of tidying up! My lounge isn't guest-ready! Also trying to juggle around tomorrow's scheduled tutoring... I've just emailed the child's parent to ask if we can push it an hour later...
Debating what to have for tea. I've got chicken curry, or a frozen fish pie ready meal... Tomorrow's tea time could be all over the place, so perhaps makes sense to do the simple ready meal then...! Curry it is!Because it's fun to have money!

Good evening everyone,
Pork has been pulled and the chilli is chilling:rotfl::rotfl:
My wrist is aching from grating a kilo of cheese - note to self next time buy grated;)
Time for me to do likewise as I'm pooped once I get the dishwasher loaded again:D. I've done as much as I can and got everything for today ticked off of my "to do".
Horrible cold sore continues to be horrible but not much I can do about it. I'm sure the lighting will be fairly low on Saturday and I'll just try and avoid the camera (as usual I hate getting my photo taken), I'm sure once I've had a couple of gins I'll not care;).
Offspring arrive tomorrow evening they assure me their slowcookers are packed....
Pizza for dinner as I really CBA thinking about cooking anything else.0 -
Agreed re they are problematic places for smoke alarms. I had one fitted and it's there on hallway ceiling. Cue for me getting up a stepladder to just "rip madly at it" when the alarm started beeping madly and wouldn't stop (ie battery needed replacing rather quickly I felt!!!).
It then hung there waiting until "someone suitable" came along to put it right. So my plumber did it in the event - when he came along for the boilers annual service.0
