Good morning everyone,
My break from CFO is over. It's been really lovely having spells with my boys during June & July, it's felt like a holiday but all good things must come to an end. We ate really nice food last week, tbh mainly nothing fancy and nothing that doesn't fit with CFO when I think about it so I need to give myself a shake and try to keep my cooking mojo going.:)
After what turned out to be a very wet day yesterday the weather has settled again and thankfully so has my wonkiness:). I need to tackle some much needed domestic chores (had a bit of a holiday from them too) but later on I hope to get some perennials potted on and more deadheading done. I think there may be runner beans ready to pick:D.
Lunch today is going to be mini pork pie, coleslaw & salad and tonight something with chicken thighs and veg from the garden.0 -
Weather here has just gone "from the sublime to the ridiculous". I've just been absolutely drenched by a downpour.
Am so glad I didnt water the garden this morning:cool:
Those singles repeat meals today - rest of the chocolate chia pudding for one and megadarra and some veg. or other for the other one.0 -
It's been hot/scorchio here continuously for 4 weeks now. It's not rained at all.
Today it's warm, but slightly overcast with 90% white clouds, current temperature indoors with all the door open is still 79F though.
Had an onion bhaji for a snack lunch (3 from a 4-pack gone now).
EDIT: 5 minutes after posting I opened the fridge door and spotted the melon .. so had a slice of that. Hard to find a dish it'd fit into!
They don't really taste of much do they (big green ones with red insides) ... I'll not bother again as they're big and wet and a faff to eat.0 -
Chores are done:) (well those I'm doing today are:cool:)
Time for lunch and I felt really hungry, then realised I hadn't had any breakfast:eek:.
My fridge needs a good sort through but it's too hot in the kitchen now to contemplate so that a job for tonight.
I like watermelon even though it doesn't taste of very much, I find it really refreshing. I've half a honeydew to use up before I start on the big green one though:)0 -

You mentioned recently somewhere or other re "white fluffy stuff" on your fruit trees.
What was it again please? As I've just wiped a little bit of that off one of my fruit trees.
(Wondering how commercial organic apple growers manage to get much of their crop - ie bug-free:cool:).
It's woolly aphid, the organic control is squish them between your fingers;) TBH even the chemicals available to home gardener find this one hard to deal with because the woolly bit is a waterproof overcoat and only a systemic in the sap poison will touch them, and even I, Dr Frankenstein, do not spray systemic chemicals on food crops:eek:
Hot & humid, up pegging the washing out after breakfast of porridge, banana, honey & HM yoghurt
Must be hot, the blackberries at the bottom of my garden are now ripe, picked one as hanging washing out, they'll go nicely in the porridge
In to town, stocking up because I'm going in for a gastroscopy on Wednesday, being utter coward I'm opting for the "do what you want while I'm unconscious" option and am told the knock out after effects may last up to 24 hours, so no driving or making decisions during that period
Chose a good time for YS it seems, found coleslaw down to 20p, kerching, dinner sorted, crumpets, 20p for 9, thank you very much, I've space in the freezer for those
I've bought full fat milk as well, for some reason the UHT full fat has vanished from the shelves over the last fortnight. I use that for my HM yoghurt
Lunch was out, had my first fruit smoothie, very nice, suited the weather far more than a tea. Oh, and a cheese scone with butter:o
Dinner, has to be salad today, I've plenty of it, could even bung on a few of my own tomatoes. I think just with baked spud and YS coleslaw inside, once the butter has soaked in of course
PS, choc ice liberated on return from shops. Let our choc ices go, free the choc ice twoEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

I hope that stocking up included double choc ice quantities! It's surprising what you fancy when you can't have it.
I read some "report" a few years back about people who were snowed in, but had been well prepared ... and even though they expected to be snowed in and had stocked up with plenty for their needs.... the over-whelming opinion is that they all suddenly craved chocolate.0 -
I had a cba eating day, ate well enough though but not more than the 5 today. Will do better tomorrow
I have been making plans for my potential new kitchen, I have a months membership of which and have already saved a virtual packet just via the fridge and freezer. At the moment I have a tall freezer and an identical fridge, side by side in my kitchen, they were carefully built around, so are staying. I am now planning on a tall fridge/freezer in the kitchen and extra freezer space tucked away in the garage. It was a worthwhile exercise. I have also found the oven I would like and have settled on one normal size built in. I worked out that buying a small built in as well would be an awful lot of cooking sessions in a big oven, taking cost into account
Neighbour is ok, being sorted with the correct antibiotics this afternoon.0 -
Good evening everyone,
Good news re your neighbour kittie:), hopefully the meds will act quickly
Farway - good luck with gastroscpy, I would certainly make sure you have lots of choc ices in. My Dad had one a few months ago and while he wasn't sore afterwards he had a very dry & scratchy throat for a few days afterwards.
I didn't get as much done this afternoon due to an unexpected (though) welcome visitor, an old friend who while we speak/message regularly we hadn't managed to actually meet up for a while. A lovely catch up was had in the sunshine.:) He had just left when my Dad arrived ihaving taken himself out for a run on his mobility scooter. I did manage to do a fair bit of tomato taming and pick the first runners:D.
My fridge is still unsorted out but I'll do a quick check and freeze anything that needs it sooner rather than later. Dinner tonight is going to be herby griddled chicken thighs with new potatoes, broad beans, runners and broccoli.:)0 -
Glad your neighbour is recovering Kittie this heat can do just as much harm to people as the very cold can. I made the mistake of going for a walk lunch time when it was really hot and airless and I have been using my inhalers ever since. If this heat doesn't break soon I'm going to get the 'managing my asthma lecture' from the asthma nurse in a couple of week
Lunch was rice with lots of chopped veg, using up the odd bits of veg following a fridge audit. Dinner was LO jerk chicken and dirty rice, some bad planning on the double rice front today. The last of the chicken has gone in the freezer, I halved the recipe so not sure what went wrong as I seemed to have made a lot . Sitting thinking of food now so I shall be good and just have some melon, I know it's only mouth hunger but a small piece of sweet melon should solve that

I hope your asthma settles Brambling - nothing worse than a lecture!!0
