You are going to hate this but someone gave me a bag of chocolate fudge for helping with stuff. They have been sat in the fridge for a week and I have made fudge in the past, so know about the sugar and everything else. I opened the pack and poured them into the bin and to stop me fishing them out and rinsing them, I shook the bin up. I was being tempted
I know what you mean about getting shot of any "sweet temptations" one is given fast - as that's what I usually do actually. It's rare for me to keep them for myself.
But, personally, I just get rid of them asap by donating to whoever/whatever I next come across - so they are in my house for the minimum of time tempting me.
Back in my last house - there was a corner shop bang nearby and I got on chatty terms with a couple of the regular shop assistants (as one tends to in those circumstances). So that was an easy give-away - I'd just head along the road and give the goodies to them to treat themselves to whilst "on duty". They were always accepted with a smile every time and I'd got rid of them as fast as I could. Other times - if it was something I felt I could resist more easily - then I could hang on in there until I saw the next friend/went to work next (delete as applicable). It had the added bonus of helping to "cultivate good relations" with the corner shop - and, if I needed something pronto and couldnt get to the shop, then they'd send it along to my house with the next customer that came in and I'd pay them as soon as I could after that.0 -
PN, check your tyre pressures, so many people ride on low pressures and then they wonder why it is such hard work and why they get punctures.
I do pump them up every time - and that's brought it's own problems as I got a puncture that was repaired and the man gave me a different valve... and I only had a pump for one valve, so then trying to find a pump that did the other one, or did both, took a couple of years
I've now got a pump that does them both ... and I could probably find it.
The chain kept coming off too, all the time, the man at the shop said I was riding it too slow .... pfft. It'd come off, typically, if I were riding along a slight incline and could see a bigger one coming, so I'd change gears ... the chain'd move and wouldn't clunk in before I'd got to the incline, then the chain'd fall off ... and a couple of times that caused me to fall off as I was standing on the pedals by then ready to "go like heck"
£250 that bike cost me, about 12 years ago - it's probably only done about 70 miles.
It's a "proper good bike" too. VERY lightweight ... and Raleigh.... but I don't understand the gears. My old school bike had a 3-way little flicker on the handlebars and I used to use mostly the same gear all the time. This one has some 21 Shinamo gears or something, all very complex, having to twist one/both of the handlebars and I've no idea what to do any of the time, so I tend to just "twist it until it all clunks and I get a bite"0 -
Whole post just vanished.
PN Gears, 3 derailleurs (shifters) on one handle and the other handle controls the 7 cogs. Each shifter can move up and down the 7cogs to give nice fine adjustments. Take pressure off the pedals when changing shifter. Don`t cross from one to another shifter or you risk a crossed chain that can jump off, using the 7 cogs properly helps keep the chain straight. Best to stick to say shifter 2 and get used to working up and down the cogs and notice the difference in how pedalling feels. You will soon get used to it. Cycling is brilliant, much less pressure on the knees and ankles0 -
Chocolate covered peanuts for breakfast this morning0

Breakfast as usual this morning and included bought sourdough bread again. I will get round to making my own at some point - honest.
Will have to make some ordinary bread today - despite the heatwave still being here - as I might run out of bread otherwise.
Checked that the ants had "had their breakfast" before I had mine - ie the piles of corn grits chucked down by the bodger holes they were using as nests. I think that answers that difference of opinion on t'Internet as to whether it does or doesnt kill them as they eat it - as there was a fair size pile of ant bodies lying on the ground - so that sounds hopeful it's done the trick.0 -
some pizza for breakfast and now a cup of coffee. Tomato puree, sliced cucs and feta cheese on pizza and lightly cooked as it was a rm spelt base. Not that fussed on the base and have one left to use. Lunch has to be LO pizza and salad and few walnuts. Lightly baked cucs are very nice.
Weight is falling off me and I am very happy, I have been in stuck- land for ages. It is the longer fasting time that is doing it, knowing I can eat what I want in the eating hours but definitely not craving anything sugary, no cakes or sweets. Winter might be very different though. I noticed the effect yesterday, thought I would look like a sausage in lycra but didn`t at all0 -
Good morning everyone,
Fingers crossed MTSTM;)
It's dull & drizzling here this morning but still really warm. It's my son's last "proper" day of his holidays as he heads off tomorrow. It's a shame the weather couldn't have held for another 24 hours.
As a wee treat tonight to finish off his break we are having sirloin steaks with all the trimmings, courgettes from the garden & Ayrshire tatties. :DThere's strawberries & cream for pudding:).
No breakfast today as I fancy a cooked brunch.:)
I'm not planning to do much today, as always the weather change has made me a bit "wonky donkey" so it will need to be a gentle day. I might hole up in the greenhouse and tidy up the tomato plants. No sign of any ripe ones yet but it looks as though there will be a decent crop.:)0 -
Nice one with the weight Kittie, finding something that works is the harder bit
Bike gears, I'm unable to ride a bike these days but spent many a fuming hour adjusting the gears, set them up & fine for a bit, then it all fails and do it all again. Trouble I found was trying to replace the worn cogs, had to split the chain, no easy removable links these days. Thank heavens for Swarfega & washing up lliquid
I swapped last night's choc ice for the last 1/4 of Galia melon, super healthy, shame about the marmalade on toast:o
Breakfast of porridge, last of the red currant gloop, honey & HM yoghurt, I did remember to put the oats in soak before I went to bed:D
Today is forecast to be roasting, but I must use my beans, so overnight defrosted HM beef stew thingy, not much else in my freezer that will go with runners. On this roasting hot day dinner is likely to be stew & dumplings with runner beans, may change but that is the plan so far
I need to prune & pick the rest of my red currants, but they are in the hottest part of the garden so will have to wait another day
Lunch is to be Cheddar & salad bits sandwichEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
So - Kittie - to sum up:
- Do I recall aright that you are only eating between 8am and 4pm? I do get a bit confused when I read that some of the "experts" writing articles about this say they finish eating at x pm and then they write down below that they start their last meal at xpm. Instant confusion on my part - as I take it that they've finished their last mouthfull at 1 minute before x pm iyswim.
- Do you "drink" at all? (ie alcohol)
- How much sweet food are you having? (I recall you mentioning having squares of chocolate - but not sure about owt else)
- I think you are using oil I believe? Do you use it just in dressings and the like or fry/saute things at all?0 -
I picked up half a watermelon while out, 50p so a bit of a good price and I've never bought watermelon before... probably had it, but never bought it. Melons are so large usually.... the man at the market stall said "You can't sell melons as they're just big and green, so we slice and wrap them"
Back home I just had an onion bhaji.
No idea what I'll eat in a bit.
I've got a pack of pitta breads that are open, so probably it'll involve one of those. I opened the pack yesterday and filled it with cheese and a burger and ketchup (as I've got no bread), but now the pack's open I have to get through the rest of them.
I might whip up some tuna/salad cream/eggs for the pitta ... as I do like that and it's the weather for it.
EDIT: Sitting here eating a pitta filled with tuna/egg/salad cream/peppers .... there's enough left over to make a 2nd one later.0
