Did a bit of an early run to L. Not that early, wasn't in there for their weekend specials.... it was bunged, tills were overloaded with people.
I only wandered in for sausage rolls, fizzy pop and hash browns. Checked fizzy pop first as there's that CO2 shortage ... shelf empty (good job I stocked up and still have 8 bottles). Instead I thought I'd try the (much pricier) 1 litre bottles of Morello Cherry sparkling stuff and Elderflower and something or other (~49p/litre from memory).
Next, hash browns - as they've usually been out of stock when I've looked (since January), in fact I've only managed to get one bag since January! They had some ... so I left them there while I shopped in other aisles.
Got sausage rolls ... sweeties .... choc covered peanuts .... 10 eggs... and it was back to the hash browns.... I nearly had a heart attack as I couldn't see the bag at first!!! Thought they'd had one bag and it'd gone while I'd been in another aisle. Feverishly pulled some croquettes aside and spotted them! Hurrah .... then I wondered if there was a 2nd bag and there was, so I "stocked up" by getting two bags of hash browns.
While shuffling round the other aisles, I saw a "new" marker on the shelves, so looked .... and snorted. "Tortillas" they said, so that's egg/potato/cheese & a bit of other stuff baked.... so a crustless quiche, or a spanish omelette type of thing. Boxed like an individual quiche ... 99p! 99p!! I could make a gazillion of those for that much. If only L sold single potatoes I'd have bought one and made something similar myself.
Breakfast today was choc covered peanuts.0 -
The promised rain never arrived, not even a spot of it
Breakfast of 1/4 Galia melon & banana with honey & HM yoghurt, sort of off sets last night's fry up dinner
Then out watering all the pots, did back & front today, I had time, felt fit enough & tomorrow is forecast a super hot. My DD is doing a charity swim then, pier to pier, at least it will be cool in the sea
Lunch will be usual Cheddar & salady stuff
Dinner, not sure but the uncooked YS black pud will feature somewhere
I scoffed the first ripe tom yesterday, Balcony Yellow, superb of course. And now loads more Enorma beans ready, with Firestorm storming up behind. Could feature tomorrow regardless of heatEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
....charity swim ...
I never do anything for charity. They're really a "popularity contest" to see who can get the most sponsorship ... and, as I don't know anybody, my form would be completely empty ... so I will never put myself through the embarrassment of that.
Also, a lot of such events charge you entry too... so you're charged £X and commit to raising at least £X too!
Bugga that! Bl00dy blackmailers.... it's a middle class form of bullying really ... stick it under the banner of "charity" and they get away with it
I had a quick look, entry price wasn't visible any more as it's closed to entries... they want you to raise £150. Reading through Facebook, a lot seem to "do training" for it - and wear wetsuits. If I were to swim I'd just do it in a cheap cossie and need no training, I'd just get in and swim from the start ... until I got to the end, it's only 1.4 miles.0 -
I've enjoyed several walks for charities which I support and have never been pressured into raising large amounts, in fact one was happy with just the £15 entry fee. However I do know some of the big well known ones like the London Moonwalk are different. It just a shame that places like our local hospice needs to rely on fund raising to keep open.
Not the greatest of starts to the day, but at least the strange noise from the washing machine was only the death of a favourite bra (yes I've been told not to put underwire bras in the WM) and not my 12 year old WM. And then my food processor died, or I should say just didn't work completely dead, I can't really complain as I brought it when I brought my flat in 1990  my poor little stick blender was put to a slightly heavier job than usual, when I had to use it for my jerk marinade as I had just chopped the ginger etc not grated Any one got a recommendation for a compact size food processor i don't have the need or space for a full size one, but needs to be bigger than a mini one

Good afternoon everyone,
Brambling I bought my elder son the Kenwood Compact processor around 6 years ago - he uses it lots . I know you said not a mini one but I find these days I use my Tefal Minipro most - it only chops but does it really well and is ideal for curry pastes etc.
Re charities - local ones quite often would equally prefer a donation of your time or skills than cash and it's not all retail volunteering. I do finance etc. for a local group. It only takes a few hours of my time each month, I can do it when I want and in the comfort of my own home. It saves them £100s of pounds each year which is much, much more than any donation I might make.
On the cooking/eating front lunch was a cheese, ham & coleslaw sarnie and flat peaches. Tonight I think we are having ribs, salad & a baked spud.0 -
Thanks Caronc I'll have a look at both, the mini one maybe enough for what I used it for now as I use my sticker blender for a lotLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0

I had two hot sausage rolls for lunch, then some choc covered peanuts and some jelly sweeties... and I've just polished off a bhaji as I also bought a pack of four of those at L this morning
I got the samosas and bhajis last week; didn't rate the samosas as they're way too thin, but the bhajis are a nice size.0 -

I'm the same, donate time and skills plus put some plants in the pots to cheer the place up. I suppose the only real money is 50p for a cuppa and the footy blackout
I've decide my large heritage tomato " Brandywine" is an impostor, I thinks it's Sungold, must have muddled the seeds up, ooops:o
Dinner will be CBA option, last of black pud, on toast, with tin of beans & last of the eggs, fried
A choc ice may follow laterEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
PN, check your tyre pressures, so many people ride on low pressures and then they wonder why it is such hard work and why they get punctures. The number you need is on the side of the tyre, I use a stirrup pump and you can see the number you need to pump to, mine is 50. A bit of chain lubricant too and you will float along. Was brilliant today, I did very well and challenged myself
Allotment is over run with large mini cucs, I ate 3 cucs today and tomorrow will make pizza from a rm base and cuc slices on top of tomato paste and sardines plus grated cheese. That will be breakfast and lunch, I was frugal in what I planted this year but am still producing a tad too much
You are going to hate this but someone gave me a bag of chocolate fudge for helping with stuff. They have been sat in the fridge for a week and I have made fudge in the past, so know about the sugar and everything else. I opened the pack and poured them into the bin and to stop me fishing them out and rinsing them, I shook the bin up. I was being tempted0 -
A choc ice may follow later
I think you may be the reason I now have choc ices in my freeze :rotfl:
Working today so salad for lunch and jerk chicken and rice (may or may not be dirty) for dinner, just need to cook and eat before I'm needed for work again. My timings are usually off and the oven timer usually pings the same time as my email  work is running late so if I don't start now it will be after 9.30pm before I get time and then it will be crumpets.
Glad you enjoyed your ride kittie I admire your will power with the fudgeLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0
