Thanks everyone, I'm not sure if it has really sunk in yet and we are all worried about my sister in law who my brother took care of as she has lived with cancer for seven years. It has brought back a lot of memories as it is nearly identical tohowwe lost my dad 45 years ago

Just a quick clock in, it's Flu jab later this morning, Covid as well, one in each arm.

At least it's dry, bright grey and quite mild.

Lunch, heated up cheese & onion pasty

Dinner. The last pork chop, grilled, with salad & a few AF chips

I'm sorry Brambling, how sad.xxx Does she have other support?

Farway - I am going to ask about the flu jab today as I'm going to walk to the pharmacy as I need cotton wool.

I am going to use up the end of the bag of spinach to make a smoothie with banana and pineapple before I leave.

I bought a vegan chicken roast with stuffing and I'm going to try it today as I saw the date is next week. I'm going to have it hot with wedges, salad and colslaw today and then slice up the rest and freeze it.

Another lovely autumnal day here - started off with a bit of condensation on the bedroom window this morning, then glorious sunshine and a few doppy wasps determined to get in the windows.

I decided to get my autumn/winter *rse in gear after reading someone on the GC thread was stocking up on “soup mix”. Checking my cupboards I had a small amount of barley and marrowfat peas, so thought I would use these up today before buying new. I decided on a scotch broth type soup adding some red lentils and yellow split peas along with every veg I could put my hands on. I found a couple of forgotten ham stock cubes at the back of the cupboard, bbe 02/2025 😯 they looked & smelt fine so used them anyway, chopped up a couple of gammon slices from the freezer - end result soup smells and tastes great 👍️

Lunch was the 2nd portion of the beetroot & goats cheese tart with a tomato salad.

JKS has reminded me I also have a piece of steak stashed away in the freezer so I’ll have that pan fried for dinner tonight with celery & pepper caponata.

Snap on another beautiful autumnal day. Been fairly lazy, bit of tidying up but mostly pottering and reading. Did manage a smallish grocery shop and ploughed through strictly, with 🍷lol!

Creamy garlic and thyme mushrooms on toasted bagel for lunch. Pepperoni pizza (out of the freezer from the co-op deal a few weeks ago), salad and HM coleslaw tonight.

yep definitely autumnal feel to the morning, the tyre pressure light came on when I went into town just after 9.30am it said the temperature was 13c. It did try to rain.

I met a friend in town for a cuppa in the John Lewis cafe, I looked at their dishwashers on the way out but they don't have slimline ones in store to look at and he wasn't sure if they would disconnect my old one when delivering the new one, I was also pushed for time on the carpark as we had chatted for 2.5 hours. I may pop to the independent store in town as I know they will and they price match the bigger stores. Washing machine also nearly 20 so I may do both at once, I'm fed up with handwashing dishes.

I found some fruit loaf in the freezer which I toasted for lunch. I didn't want to cook so I watched strictly with a picky tea cheese, pickles, salad, boiled egg etc

Chillier start this morning, but sun is on it's way out.

Flu / covid jabs went fine, slightly sore arms as per normal when jabbed.

Good idea getting both machines changed at same tome Brambling, let's hope they last as long as previous, but from what I hear the modern stuff just doesn't last, no matter how much is paid for it. A lot of it due to the built in Smart gubbins. No doubt there are exceptions.

Lunch, had a cooked breakfast, so something light, TBD

Dinner, going though the pantry and found some Covid stocks just OOD or nearly OOD. The tin opener will be main utensil used today

Tin of beef stew, just OOD, tin of Borlotti beans, also just OOD, cooked in same pot, like a bean stew. HM mash & maybe some frozen mixed veg

Yes we’ve had a huge drop in temp too, today it's a high of 14c but with the wind the “feels like” temp is 9 or 10c with some light rain too. I was having a paperwork clear out and shredding day yesterday and came across my 2025 diary, I noticed that my heating went on 28th Oct so I definitely don't want to succumb before then.

An easy cooking day today, for lunch I’ll have a portion of the ham broth I made yesterday.

For dinner from the freezer I’ve got the last portion of chicken mince to make meatballs which will go nicely with some of the leftover caponata and a handful of pasta.
