I only had one slice of bread left so I’m going to have to buy something when I get into London. I’m on the train now and MSE logged me out so I had to change password.
The weather seems quite bright and fresh here, but it is going to rain in Brighton later.1 -
A horrible dark and wet morning but despite that I took the bus to go and do a bit of shopping, although it has brightened up nicely this afternoon.
Lunch was a quickly made egg, lettuce & tomato sandwich.
More pasta tonight as I have some sauce leftover from last night which I’ll turn into more of a puttanesca sauce by adding some anchovies, olives & capers.

Good afternoon everyone,
I think I've finally dried out and warmed up after getting absolutely soaked in a torrential rain shower while heading to meet my cousin for lunch. Thankfully the cafe was warm and their lentil soup was absolutely delicious. It was lovely to catch up with her even if it did mean a full change of clothes when I got back. It looks as though there is some wild weather coming our way so I'm glad I don't need to go anywhere for the next few days.
Persian style omelette for dinner tonight with either rice & greens or pitta and salad. I'll let DS2 choose.1 -
I finally pressed the button to purchase my new smaller fridge freezer (as per my previous posts) and it was delivered today. It isn't actually in use or in place as the worktop needs cutting down to accommodate it - that is happening on Wednesday but it has to stand for a while anyway. I did try a 4pint milk container in the door and it doesn't quite fit (well, it does but not easily) so I shall revert to 2 pints at a time. I was talking to my sis-in-law about the fact that there isn't really anywhere to go and look at the physical items anymore. We do have a Currys but they only had one model of the size I wanted, and I can't think of anywhere else in our town. I also had a new washing machine as my old one was making all sorts of noises and some programmes just didn't work anymore. All of the old appliances were bought when I moved here in 2010 so if I get another 15 years I will be happy. Next on the list is some new fencing panels, hopefully this weekend (weather permitting) and I'd also like a lottery win to replenish the savings. I rarely buy a ticket but I might find a spare couple of quid down the back of the sofa. Dinner tonight will be chicken and chips from the freezer and I need to factor in the 9 frozen bagels I seem to have accumulated so I can downsize to the slightly smaller freezer. I also have some fish fingers so those would go nicely for lunches this week in a bagel, and will use up some of those pesky condiments I was concerned about.2

My sister went back to Dorset today, I do like having my house back, as does his lordship. She brought so much stuff with her so I was a little concerned about two changes on the train with all her luggage.Car had its winter check and was washed, hoovered and I was given de-icer so that covered the cost of the check. I came home via Tesco and picked up some less than half price lamb, beef, Christmas gammon, salmon, stuffing and the weeks veg, the bill started as £102 then came down to £52 with the club card offers and I had £12 Tesco club card vouchers so actually paid £40 😁 most has been frozen except the salmon which needs portioning first and the gammon which has a long date so can stay in the fridge. It was a tight squeeze to make room in the freezers.I spoke to my sister in the New Forest this evening and they have had to put their 14year old Jack Russell to sleep this week, other than being deaf she had seemed very healthy but suddenly became very ill. They are heartbroken and she is worried how bad my BIL has taken it, she was a lovely little dog and would spend hours on his knee especially this year when his cancer treatment side effects made him ill.I was not home until after 2pm so a quick lunch of Sussex charmer cheese and crackers.Cottage pie from the freezer with LO veg from lasts nights roast dinner.Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin1

@Brambling - so sorry to hear about your sister's dog. It is so hard having to make that step even when it is necessary. And when your are ill like your BIL. it is especially hard. Sending them lots of hugs from America.2

Sorry about the doggie Brambling. My JRT just turned 14. Xx
I am in Brighton this morning. There is a class I might go to today. I went out to an Italian restaurant last night and had an early night afterwards.
i am booked into a restaurant tonight as well. I have a pastry from a bakery that I will have for breakfast in the hotel. I want to look around the shops this afternoon and will just buy lunch at a cafe near here.1 -
Good morning everyone,
Sorry to hear about your sister's wee dog Brambling. They'll miss her very much even though it is the kindest thing.
You are sounding very organised dreaming, glad you managed to get the fridge you wanted.
The weather is foul here so I shan't be straying further than the deck for logs. DS2 can handle the bin run when he is togged up to walk Hector. I need to write some Christmas cards and send online Christmas messages so that will keep me occupied. Lunch is tbc and tonight I'm trying this recipe Buffalo-Style Chicken Sweet Potatoes Recipe | Tesco Real Food which we'll have with salad.1 -
Rain here, but nowhere near as bad as some, so small mercies.Sorry to hear about your sister's dog Brambling, never easy I know. And you did very well in Tesco
The 4 pint size seems to have changed external dimensions, I think since thinner plastic was introduced. The ones I've tried seem to bulge more instead of being rigid, so it's a tight fit.dreaming said:I did try a 4pint milk container in the door and it doesn't quite fit (well, it does but not easily) so I shall revert to 2 pints at a time.I also have some fish fingers so those would go nicely for lunches this week in a bagel, and will use up some of those pesky condiments I was concerned about.I did think about getting the two pint size, but the price difference was daft, so I make do with four pint sizeLunch, thanks to Dreaming, it's fish fingers
Just neat, no sarnie or bagelsDinner, pick over the chicken carcass and see if enough to make a curry, from a just OOD jar.Numerus non sum2 -
Yes, I think you're right about the milk containers bulging more - I hadn't thought about it before. I may keep going with them as the price difference is quite a bit and it means I won't have to visit the shop quite so often. I do hate the thinner plastic as sometimes it feels as if it's going to give way when you pour unless you use both hands - but less plastic is obviously better. Dinner tonight will be sausage, mash, and mushy peas - all from the current freezer. Tomorrow will have to be chicken and something as I still have a pack of about 9 chicken breasts which takes up half of the bottom drawer of the current freezer. I might try to use up some of the half empty veg. packs I have, and some of the supermarket french fries that I don't like much but need eating..Farway said:Rain here, but nowhere near as bad as some, so small mercies.
