  • Another wfh day but with lots of meetings. Luckily one got cancelled so got a few more bits done, think I will be ok to finish on time tomorrow, one more day 🙃

Also another using up food day. Cheese and egg salad for lunch with new potatoes, tomatoes and cucumber. Prawn, broccoli and red pepper sweet chilli noodles tonight, which also used up an odd 1/4 of an onion.

I had 250 gms of minced beef I dug out of the freezer yesterday, I had some diced red onion in the freezer as well so that got used up plus some frozen carrots and peas . I also had about 7-8 left over mushrooms to use up and added a handful of red lentils and made 7 individual cottage pies for my freezer. so plenty in for the days when I don't fancy cooking. batch cooking is such a handy money saver and time saver as well. In my case it means less standing about especially if I'm feeling a bit wobbly  :)

Mince the gift which keeps on giving 🙂

I had a text from my doctors about a week ago to book my flu jab which was slightly depressing as it's a sign of winter, I think they are early this year.  I'm sure I saw somewhere that they look at Australia to gage the flu for our winter and they had it bad so maybe trying a preemptive strike

My last day at work until the 11th and I finished on time 😁 I was even able to get a hour lunch break in to pop to Sainsbury's for a few bits and petrol, when did it shoot up again in price the last time I filled up it was about 12p a litre cheaper  🙄 I also managed to top up his lordships food, otherwise I wouldn't have been popular with my nephew or the cat  🐈‍⬛  when I'm away

long drive tomorrow to Northumberland which seemed a good idea when booked as we forgot it's the Friday before the bank holiday  :# hoping if we leave ear we will at least miss the worst of the m25 we can only hope

Ham and cheese baguette for lunch with tomatoes. A nice easy dinner Lasagna from the freezer

Hope your journey oop North goes well Brambling, but Bank Holidays are never nice for travelling, mind you it's going to be a bad here, music festival plus a rail strike, so I guess more cars than normal

Decided on porridge for breakfast, it's getting cooler as well as darker in the mornings now
Lunch, more sausage rolls for convenience
Dinner, LO roast pork, but think I'll do roast spuds and my own runners + fresh carrots

DGS passed all his GCSEs, which is a relief for him & parents, now he has to sort out what A-levels.
Such a load on young shoulders these days, it used to be easy in my far distant days, just go & get a job, if it was no good, get another one
He has no real idea what he wants to do, which I think is fairly common except for the few who really do know at that age

    Good morning everyone,
Well done to DGS Farway  :)
Enjoy Northumberland Brambling, I hope the weather is kind.
Sunshine and showers here this morning, it's not a BH up here but as DS2 technically works in Newcastle he's off on Monday. We are hoping the weather is kind and more work can be done outdoors. The weather has really held the project up. The deck roofing was supposed to have arrived but looks like it will be early next week now so unless it suddenly turns up that won't get done this weekend. DS2 is off to Edinburgh tomorrow to visit The Fringe with some mates so at least it's not all work and no play!
Wee Frank was very pleased to be home and is doing well though was up every couple of hours so DS1 and DIL-to-be are shattered. He's back to the vets this afternoon for a scan and check but seems to be doing okay.
Tesco have been and the greenhouse beckons before it turns into a jungle again! Something nipped me when I watering yesterday evening, I didn't see it or feel it until I noticed blood running down my arm! Horsefly or similar I think. It isn't too itchy or swollen this morning so hopefully will settle okay.
Salady bits for lunch and chicken traybake for dinner.

Well done to the GS Farway 🙂

Journey was a lot longer than expected although we left early enough to avoid any issues on the M25 and it was a lovely drive until the A1. Road works, Leeds festival traffic, more road works a couple of heavy rain storms, caravans etc unfortunately I drew the short straw and we swapped out at services just before the A1 🙄 the hip is now sulking but we managed a walk after dinner and this was the view from the bottom of our road

    Beautiful pic Brambling. Stunning. :)

I have been cooking for two today. Veggie bacon sarnies for breakfast and lots of junk, crisps, popcorn etc... all day while we are watching TV. :p

  • Lovely pic, Brambling. I’m driving north tomorrow, had forgotten about Leeds festival traffic 🤔

So, no CFO for me for 10 days or so plus I get some guaranteed sun 🌞🙌

In an effort to use things up, not open anything that wouldn’t get finished and avoid the shops, lunch was a tuna and sweetcorn wrap with cherry tomatoes and tea was posh fishfingers, sweet potato wedges (that is absolutely, definitely the end of those sweet potatoes 😅) and baked beans.

Lovely pic Brambling, not quite Bognor! :D
Sort of sunny but could change, out early watering at the volunteer spot and I think that's my Bank Holiday excursions completed

Defrosted some of my blackberries from the last few weeks, today is going to be Jam Day now I have some apples ripe
Not my jam pan, but I need a new saucepan, the one I use for mash etc has a very wobbly handle and the securing screw has rusted & will not tighten. I can just imagine it crashing to the floor full of boiling water when I lift it.
Of course once I started looking there are hundreds of options when all I want is one saucepan for spuds etc, a very first world problem, at least I have food to put in it

    Lunch, eggs on toast
Dinner, last of the roast pork, cold, with salad & I may use up LO boiled potatoes as base for a spud salad

    Good morning everyone,
Gorgeous photo Brambling, hopefully makes the drive and delays worthwhile. Don't know whereabouts in Northumberland you are but Bamburgh Castle, The Alnwick Garden and The Holy Isle are all well worth visiting.
Enjoy your break JKS, hope the journey isn't too onerous.

DIL-to-be is on her way to Athens, she was debating whether to go or not but she's desperate to see her family, especially her Gran who is in her 90s and failing mentally now as well as being very frail. Hopefully there will be no further dramas with Frank. The vet was pleased with Frank's checks but has upped his pain meds as the poor wee chap was clearly sore and struggling to get comfy enough to rest. They've made a big difference.
DS2 is off to the Edinburgh Fringe today, he's driving as ludicrously the last train from Edinburgh to Glasgow is 8.30pm! So I'm CFO and I've a notion for mince soup, it was mentioned in a book I was recently reading set in Paisley and has given me a yen. Basically very sloppy savoury mince and veg either cooked with rice, lentils, barley, broth mix or pasta. I'll probably use small pasta and some lentils as I don't want to make gallons. It's a real bung in dish and stretches a small amount mince or LO chopped roast meat a long way. LO chicken & veg for lunch.
