I've never though to make a blue cheese risotto 🤔 I have blue cheese in the fridge as I planned on making a dressing for chicory one day so may have to experiment at the weekend

Waitrose delivery arrived with just one missing item courgettes which I tend to add to a lot of things rather than use as a veg on its own. And  a couple of subs which were in my favour.  I did watch him faffing about trying to park for about 10 mins I should have gone out and told him to park behind my and next door cars 🙄 the SO half price chicken is quite large and is currently in the fridge whilst I ponder whether to take out of the bag and halve before freezing or whether to freeze whole and invite my sister and nephew for dinner one night.  It's dated for Friday so I've time to think 😁 a pack of crumpets seem to have fallen into my order 🤔. I wonder if PN found her perfect home?

I was disappointed in their cauliflower it was small even smaller than the head of broccoli the FS one was twice the size at the same price.  Next shop will be a farm shop visit in a couple of weeks, I won't need a SM shop for 4 or 5 weeks.

lunch was a large bowl of turkey soup 😋 it was very nice :) two portions are now in the freezer and two saved for the next couple of lunches.  Dinner was LO roast beef mixed into a mushroom stroganoff

Dull again but change on the way it seems

I made my mind up regarding grocery delivery, had to because I’m running out of fresh everything including veg & fruit, still not found the AWOL apples BTW.. Plumped for Asda but only because they had items W8rose didn’t, delivery only £1.75 this lunchtime.

One sub, sardines in brine not oil which I can live with, in fact if they arrive in time could be my lunch

Otherwise it’ll be cheese & pickle sarnie

Dinner, use up frittata with LO boiled baby spuds & whatever else I can find

Brambling, I pondered long & hard about adding cauli or cabbage to my order & decided against it for the very reason you mention about tiny ones arriving so they are the veg I have to see before I buy them

Talking of blue cheese, one of my get one free offer over Christmas was soft blue cheese, it is gorgeous and one I’ll repeat again should an offer arise

Funny, I was thinking that the other day, with all the covids, lockdowns, WFH etc it must be, or has been, a very tricky time for her

    Good morning everyone,
Yes I do hope everything worked out for PN*.
The risotto was lovely it was based on a JO recipe in the his 7 ways book. LOs for lunch  :)
I'm pooch sitting today and overnight, I was going to sweep and mop through but it's a waste of effort while he's here.
Grey and windy here today, it's to get very wet and gusty later, pooch won't be impressed when DS2 takes out later!
Chicken chasni and rice for dinner this evening, DS2 is cooking so I'll be on clearing up duty.
*ETA her blog is still being updated and a post in Dec says she moved house last year  :)

Thanks for info re PN Caronc, it's good to know she's moved 🙂. I had forgot the blue cheese risotto recipe was in JO book 🙂

Farway the cauli may be tiny but the red cabbage (sold by weight) is huge 🙄 just as well it lasts for ages in the fridge. I'm wondering if your apples have run away with my honey, I know I saw a full jar so didn't add it to the shop I'll buy some and will find it, which explains the 3 jars of whole grain mustard I now own  :s

lunch was another portion of turkey soup.  Dinner was a easy jacket potato with cheese and coleslaw

  • Another lovely bright, sunny day here - definitely helps with motivation.

Out and about a bit today so a ham and mustard sarnie with some cherry tomatoes for lunch. Quick and easy tea out of the freezer tonight - sun dried tomato and chicken risotto, cooked some broccoli as the green to go with 😉

    Good afternoon everyone,
Yes there's a few recipes in the JO book we tried when I first got it that we had forgotten about. The sweet and sour pork with peaches is on next week's meal plan.
Pooch was collected mid morning so I cracked on with the sweeping and dusting. I'm just having a quick cuppa before changing my bed and then after lunch I'll mop through. That will be more than enough cleaning for one day!
Cheese & salami toasted wrap & salad and tonight it sausages with LO curry sauce, steamed veg and baked spuds.

Still dull & grey despite the promises

Thanks for PN update Caron; I didn’t know she had a blog

Brambling, I’ll swap one of your whole grain mustards for 3M of tin foil which seems to be multiplying around here. Apples are still AWOL but I’ll bring some more in which as your mustard / honey will instantly de-cloak the missing ones

Yesterday’s Asda delivery was a couple of hours late, I did have a text to say delayed by an hour but no update to couple of hours. TBF it’s the first time and I had nothing else on or anywhere to go so not a real problem for me.

All safely packed away, including the 3M of tin foil with its brother. ‘fridge is looking healthier now with fresh veg

Lunch, I'd taken LO roast beef lump out for defrosting, so it was a beef & pickled beetroot sarnie

Dinner, more LO beef with steamed fresh + frozen veg + I have some very watery spuds that are useless for roasting, chipping or even boiling, the turn to mush once they get wet type. I’ll boil and get sloppy mash from them but at least they’ll get used and space made

  • Office day of many meetings, thankfully all productive 🙃

Grabbed mug of HM mushroom soup and a roll at my desk while checking emails in a short break.

Veggie Thursday tonight, halloumi, pesto and roasted veg traybake with a toasted pitta. Watched 2 episodes of Hidden Assets, partly because I was too tired to move, but mainly because it is really quite good, recommended. It’s a BBC4 one so on iPlayer, not been hyped like all the slightly average mainstream stuff despite being better than much of it…

I like his sweet and sour pork with peaches Caronc which is unusual for me as I rarely like fruit with meat 🙂  there is a half pork fillet in the freezer 🤔

For the first time in a long long while I went to the theatre tonight, it was the ballet The Snow Queen a full house and very enjoyable although I was surprisingly apprehensive with the number of people, it was pre lockdown since I've been around so many people  :) I bumped into someone I know which was good

lunch was the last of the unfrozen turkey soup 😋 dinner a quick mushroom omelette with AF chips before I went out

JKS I'm a fan of the BBC4 Saturday night programs they do a lot of good European series. Like you I'm watching Hidden Assets
