Tesco are due soon and then it "Operation Christmas Dinner Attempt 2" since we couldn't all get together on the 25th the family are coming over for turkey and all the trimmings followed by trifle tomorrow. I want to get as much of the prep done today as I can.
Scotch egg and salad for lunch. Dinner is tbc but will involve a LO baked spud.

Frosty with sunshine this morning, not that I saw the early morning, for some reason I woke up at nearly nine which is unusual for me. Not that there was any reason to get up earlier. Because it was so late I’ve skipped breakfast & will make lunch a tad earlier

While freezer diving for frozen veg yesterday I found a pack of Christmas posh streaky, removed to defrost for BLT sarnies over the next few days, one of those days is today’s lunch now the L & Ts have been replenished

I also found a long lost tube of Christmas 2020 posh FR pork sausage meat, LO from my DIY sausage rolls efforts [failed]. BBE Feb 2021 that is also out & defrosting and seeking inspiration on how to get it into tonight’s dinner.

My best efforts so far are just make burger style patties & have with fried LO mash, eggs, use up fresh mushrooms & maybe some baked beans. I had thought of cottage pie style but unsure of timing to get the sausage meat cooked under a blanket of mash, I could wing it but I’d rather not risk it

Maybe once defrosted I could mix the mash in, like fish cakes? I’ll give it some thought between now & dinner. Whatever happens the frying pan will be in use tonight

Oooh, may have to peek at Hidden Assets, at the moment I’m in Netflix The Glitch, not my normal fare but it has me hooked while I await a few more Ozarks series four episodes to pile up

I hope you got you're prep all done Caronc 🙂

Did you work out what to do with the sausage meat Farway I haven't done for ages but I used to mix with chopped up soften veg (onions carrots celery) and make a sausage platt 😋

A busy day for a Friday but not too stressful 🙂 it did make the day go quicker

I took out what I thought was liver for dinner last night but turned out to be kidney which I didn't fancy then so lunch was 'devilled' kidneys on toast.  Dinner sirloin steak with AFchips and green veg 😋

JKS I'm a fan of the BBC4 Saturday night programs they do a lot of good European series. Like you I'm watching Hidden Assets
I’m usually too lazy as they’re often subtitled but this is mostly in English so I can cope. Perhaps I should see if any of the others are…

Scrambled eggs and mushrooms on toasted bagel for lunch. Out tonight - curry and a 🍷, plus a lovely catch up, very welcome after a long week 🙃

Up in the dark at daft o’clock this morning, making up for yesterday’s lie in I guess. Probably be falling asleep by mid afternoon, that is a plus about being retired, it doesn’t matter either way and I’ve nothing that must be done today

Back to dull outside, bit of a breeze but it’s nothing compared to the warnings for North East Scotland. I’m on a freezer rootle later and I think there’s a meat pie in there which may become dinner

Lunch, still on BLT sarnie, the streaky is semi posh M & S which cooks up nicely for a sarnie

Dinner, as above, maybe pie or maybe frozen coated fish which is also in the freezer, either will be with HM AF chips, try out my new spud delivery & fingers crossed they are better than the watery ones I had previously.

The sausage meat meal was a disaster, I went with my cunning plan of mixing it with LO mash to make sort of patty thing and frying the results. That bit worked but the final taste was just not right, insipid with texture & colour of soggy cardboard. Even large dobs of posh tom ketchup could not revive it. Half went in the bin

I have some frozen posh stuffing of the same vintage that needs clearing out of the freezer, I think next time I’m cooking chicken I’ll defrost & cook in the same oven as I hate to waste food but it may also go in bin post cooking. Some foods are wasted on my peasant taste buds

I do have some frozen sirloin as well, maybe another day?

    Good morning everyone,
It's wild here this morning, my sister has just shared a video of the waves breaking over the sea wall.
Family gathering here this evening for the Christmas dinner we didn't manage to have together on Christmas Day. DS2 and I did as much prep as we could yesterday so just need to cook it all now. Pig in blankets or a bit of stuffing anyone?
  • Hope your “Christmas” went well, caronc 🎄

Nothing as exciting here. Bit of washing, grocery shopping and a trip to get my hair cut. Popped in to the farm shop on my way back for chicken thighs, can’t bring myself to buy cheap chicken!

Finished Hidden Assets this evening, very good 👍

annoying about the sausage meat Farway especially if it was a good one

I do try to follow the eat less meat but better meat Which is why I like our Farm Shop as it is local meat

pottering day at home then I went to the on screen showing of Rigoletto from Met Opera tonight at the local theatre which was long but good 🙂

lunch was crumpets with melted cheese and early dinner was fish finger sandwich

Bright & sunny this morning but the grandchildren had a sleep over at their Nan’s last night so I’m going round later to see them, which means no garden pottering and lunch is unknown. I’m taking along some ex Christmas Jaffa cakes and guess at least one will become lunch.

Dinner is TBA, I don’t want to take anything out to defrost “just in case” I come home with something, I had one of the Iceland Salmon & cheese things last night, a last minute change of mind, which was nice, and so I may have the other one if stuck for ideas

There’s also the Brambling inspired Fish Finger sarnie option which is sounding like a good idea, can’t remember if I have any of the W8rose posh ones lurking, if they’ d be ideal

Caron, hope the late Christmas dinner went well & the next lot of gales doesn't cause problems

    Good afternoon everyone,
Just waiting for the next storm to hit, it's getting pretty windy but dry so far.
"Christmas Dinner" yesterday was excellent, it was so good to have the six of us together. Rather a lot of wine was consumed though and I'm feeling a tad wabbit today. Order has been restored in the kitchen and leftovers will be transformed tomorrow. Needless to say all of the pigs and blankets disappeared. DS2 had trifle for breakfast!
An afternoon on the sofa sounds appealing and we are having sweet and sour pork tonight so not much prep required.
