Good morning everyone,
Dry but gloomy here. I'm debating whether to risk pegging out a load of laundry.
Roast confit duck legs for dinner tonight with dauphinoise potatoes, savoy cabbage, green beans, carrots & gravy.
Yesterday I liberated a bag of chicken carcasses and one of beef bones from the freezer, I'll get them roasted for stock making later.
You've given me a notion for scrambled egg and mushrooms JKS, I think that's lunch sorted.0 -
Afternoon all, dull & gloomy here as well and such a change from yesterdayNice looking pickled toms Caron, that is one thing I've never tasted or made, and not this year either because I do not have a glut this timeChecked out the Asda shopping list yesterday & everything I needed was now available, including yoghurt & on offer salmon, so I panic bought planned purchased everything for Christmas, well for my CFO Christmas anyway so swap monster turkey for lamb shanks and Christmas pud for sticky toffee puddingActually there is a meal for a tenner offer also on at the moment, including drink, so I chose items that will freeze, lamb shanks & S T pudding & six bottles of C Cola are in therePlus the normal 3 for a tenner meat offer, including the invisible always OOS small chicken, which I'll freeze if it arrives and a small pork joint also destined for the freezerPlus I remembered to add a couple of tins of butter beans for the sausage casserole recipe posted here a week or so back, that would be fine as CFO Boxing day I betIf it all arrives that's me sorted because I'll not need to scramble for delivery slots nearer the time, and I think I've an invite to DD anyway, assuming no Government clamp down againYesterday's frozen mystery dinner scramble was Iceland veggie lasagne, very nice & a good repeatable buy for a quidTonight's freezer space will be made by eating the last Iceland Harry Ramsden battered cod, plus HR chips & frozen peasThe cod is in a large long cardboard packet so clearing that out will give a good bit of freezer space, once the pixies stop shuffling the contents about of courseLunch was a cheese toastieEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0

Scrambled eggs and mushrooms is one of my favourite at home day lunches caronc, also makes a good brunch if I need to eat at strange times.
Was too late to do anything outside by the time I got back yesterday, although I did make a batch of veggie chilli and a few portions of celery and Stilton soup - winter is definitely on it’s way 😉
Another beautiful day mid-morning onwards so did some outside DIY plus cut the grass (last cut of the year???)
Lunch was smoked mackerel pate (made to use up some ricotta, which was too far past it’s best when it came to it so was just the mackerel and creme fraiche). Just making masala cod traybake for dinner.0 -
Snap on the celery soup JKS I made some tonight to use up celery, I haven't thought to add Stilton but I've some Brighton blue in the fridge so will crumble some over the top for lunch this week
Ive never had pickle tomatoes either
Pottering today, I spoke to one sister on the phone for a hour this morning than shared a cuppa or two with another sister this afternoon 🙂
Lunch was egg and crab stick salad with watercress. Dinner ended up being roast chicken, I forgot to defrost the half I have in the freezer but picked up a small one when I got milk in T Exp, no roast potatoes but roast parsnip, mash carrot and swede and cauliflower. Next week is going to be busy with long days so plenty of left overs with the chicken and probably a second roast dinner tomorrow as I just need to plate and ping itLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Sunny start to the day, bit colder than of late though. I may need to get watering some pots later today just in case, there are fruiting apple trees in them & now is not the time to let them get too dryI have a loaf in the Panny for lunch, I may go with sort of Ploughman style salad bits now I have fresh salad arriving tomorrowTalking of which, mail from Asda, four of my items are now out of stock
.
Luckily for me I planned and ticked the sub boxes wisely this time and the OOS are readily subbed, pork sausages & diet cola for instance, the only one I am a bit dubious over is the boneless pork leg joint that was part of the 3 for a tenner offer so could be interesting results.Luckily Asda mail ahead with the subs so can be ready to refuse should they sub with say pork mince or bacon rashersCelery soup, now there's an idea, duly borrowedDinner, has to be another stab & ping MFO for freezer space and may well be Asda chicken curry oneEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
Good morning everyone,
It's cauliflower soup I'll be making later in the week as I still have one to use up.
Today domestics, voluntary admin and a bit of stock making are my "to dos".
The confit then roasted duck legs were really good and made a nice change. DS2's request that we had duck fat roasties was a good call, I wish I had made a lot more!Pasta with bacon, lemon, peas and crème fraiche tonight. Lunch is tbc.0 -
As predicted a busy day, not helped by our test environments falling over in the middle of testing 🙄 lunch time I managed to get outside for a short while and pulled up my courgette plants, cucumber and bush French beans, the plot will need to be dug over so I can put down weed suppression again. Compost bins are both full so I'll wait for them to drop to pull up the climbing beans. I did have a surprised two mini cucumbers and a bottle so surprising three small round courgettes
lunch was a mug of celery soup with a sprinkle of blue cheese, followed by some strawberries and pineapple. Dinner was LO roast chicken dinner minus the roast parsnip

Well, that was Monday…
You’re welcome on the celery soup. I’ll be honest, it’s mostly an excuse for the Stilton for me 😜
Lunch was some more of the mackerel pate, the end of the feta, olives, cucumber sticks and a pitta bread.
Another traybake tonight (love a traybake) - courgette, chorizo and new potato served with rocket and HM chimichurri. There are LOs…0 -
'Morning, just waiting for my Asda delivery, due in an hour or so,. but I've not yet had the e mail telling me it's picked so maybe all is not well because previously it's done & dusted by now?Time will tellUPDATE, message received, seems OOS bangers & pork joint was fake news, they're in there
.
What's now missing is cauliflower cheese, part of the meal for tenner deal, no loss I only added it to make up the meal, and horror the sage & onion stuffing has been subbed for sage, onion & GARLIC, bleeeugh. That'll be going back with the driver

Good morning everyone,
Just enjoying a quick cuppa before making myself presentable to out for lunch with some friends for a belated 60th celebration for one of them. I've not seen them face to face for over a year so looking forward to it.
I'm not expecting to need any dinner tonight.0
