When I was rootling in the freezer for last night's dinner I came across a pack YS BBE 2019 mince, I expect it to taste just like mince as well Brambling
Hope so or I'm in for shock come lunchtime

I have a loaf in the Panny, using Asda bread flour this time with lower protein than the Waitrose Canadian I've been using, at least I can make a direct comparison now, my assumption has been the Canadian will be better but I've never directly compared, more hearsay TBH

Assuming all's well lunch is use some of the YS 2019 mince as a burger inside the fresh bread
Dinner, last of the 2019 mince, either as burgers or some type of savoury mince concoction

    Good morning everyone,
Pah 2019 -just a newbie then Farway. Anything under three years old counts as a "recent addition" in my freezers lol. Just kidding (sort of) though for red meat unless it's become horribly freezer burned I pay no attention to the date. I'm fussier with fish and poultry. That said by my standards everything currently in my freezers is within the past 18 months with the exception of some venison and it's all vac packed. I had a major sort out not so long ago and have used up all the older stuff since.
Thunder and lightening forecast for us today though it's dry so far, probably explains why my tinnitus is having a party this morning.
I have an early evening meeting for my voluntary admin, I think I've done all the prep needed just need to check my notes still make sense lol!
I've no other plans as such for the day, my son is cooking this evening and we did the prep last night so I don't even need to think about that. He's cooking Chicken Chasni. A good excuse I think to bury myself in my book. I'm reading Grace Dent's "Hungry" and finding it very hard to put down. Lunch will be a ham & egg mayo salad wrap and some fruit. I've popped the smoked mackerel in the freezer as there's other stuff needing used up first.

The 2019 mince has become savoury mince and will have dumplings added later
Apart from being a bit "watery" the mince is fine

Another busy day so food has been very CBA

lunch was a strange combination of LO pate and cold pork with salad.  Dinner was flapjack and a cup of tea,I'm just about to eat the last banana

  • Hello everyone. Thanks for the well wishes, still feel a bit meh but getting there. Glad everyone is enjoying mackerel pate 😉

Yesterday was the as advertised pork noodle salad for lunch and leftovers frittata for dinner. As the groceries had arrived, there was salad and a slice of fresh bread and butter with the frittata 😋

Two very long meetings today so was glad of my pre-prepared tuna couscous at lunchtime. Nice, easy salmon and green bean pesto pasta tonight.

Expecting rain any time soon, radar shows depression just off the Isle of Wight and heading my & Brambling wards, no gardening planned anyway
The savoury mince + dumplings turned out well, especially the dumplings, with a nice portion of LOs for a rainy day, just not this rainy day

The ciabatta with Asda bread flour has turned out very similar to using the expensive [on offer] Canadian flour, so that's a plus and very MSE
I'll be using some of the new loaf in a lunchtime sarnie, probably, now the mousetrap has gone, grated decent Cheddar and salady bits
Dinner, very unsure, could be a salad but if the rain arrives and it's gloomy not sure I would fancy it then, so it's wait & see

    Good morning everyone,
Glad you are feeling a bit better JKS.
Tbh when it comes to standard white or wholemeal  flour I've never found any difference between the cheaper and more expensive brands. Yes worth paying a bit more for rye and some of the seeded ones but otherwise cheap and cheerful all the way for me.
Apart from a few distant rumbles and a brief rain shower we didn't get the deluge forecasted and it turned into a lovely afternoon and evening yesterday. The evening sunshine certainly helped our virtual committee meeting not take any longer than it had to which suited me.  It's very dull today so we might get the rain today instead.
Ham and egg mayo salad sarnie again for lunch. Grocery delivery is due tomorrow so it's use up day today. The smoked mackerel has been popped in the freezer as it won't get used this week. Sausages, LO curry sauce, various veg and oven chips for dinner.

I woke up to rain Farway but most of the day it has switched between blue and grey skies, it must have swerved around us

I've a W8itrose delivery due Saturday which I've put off a couple of times, I've tweaked it a little tonight and added some bits for my sister.

Work wise we are ramping up to a busier than usual 2 or 3 weeks starting tomorrow, a long overdue system upgrade is going in at the weekend so I'll also be working Sunday.  I cooked a bolognese sauce tonight when I was cooking dinner some for dinner tomorrow and some for the freezer, I've added plenty of veg to the mince 🙂 and a chicken is defrosting in the fridge for Saturday so there will be a lot of chicken quick and easy meals next week

lunch was scrambled egg on a toasted muffin with some Parma ham which needed eating and wilted spinach.Dinner was a duck stirfry, the duck was part of a YS haul from a few months ago and i was also clearing out the veg containers before Saturday

  • We had heavy rain and hail for a good spell late afternoon/early evening, it really doesn’t feel like the middle of May 🤨

Wasn’t very hungry at lunchtime (I’m still not quite right after my jab, unheard of for me to not be hungry) so late lunch of bagel with peanut butter and an apple. Found some enthusiasm this evening and made prawn saganaki, served with a part baked bread roll and green beans.

Weather not looking much better at the weekend, suppose that’s some consolation for having to work, Brambling...
