The perils of sharp knives Farway :s I have many kitchen related scars 😳

Sounds a lovely dinner Caronc just my idea of heaven on a plate  :)

Decided I was getting a little stir crazy so as I know how to live I went up to Homebase to pick up a click and collect this morning 🙂 I did try to collect it after work last night forgetting they now close as 6pm 🙄 After HB i went to the nearby garden centre and picked up a rhubarb crown which was half price to loyalty card members, I'm hoping to be able to pull a little from my current one brought last year as it will be at least next year before I can crop the new one but I do love it and regret leaving 3 crowns inherited from my mum at the allotment when we gave it up 🙂

Food has not been very exciting today, cheese and toast when I got back and because I forgot I was slow cooking my half lamb shoulder omelette and chips for dinner

  • Treated myself to ribeye steak tonight as I didn’t fancy the “posh” takeaway choice this weekend. Served it with sweet potato wedges, mushrooms, roasted vine tomatoes and spinach (oh, and a 🍷) 😉

Dull & windy again, proper Spring weather is due on Tuesday so they say

Just had update on my W8rose delivery due this lunchtime, all there but smaller 300g pack of mushrooms, not  a problem, at least the flour & milk are there, plus must be monster gammon looking at the price, nearly a tenner each and that's on offer. :o
I'll see what they're like before deciding if a spot of home butchery is needed, especially with my recent knife incident :'(
I have factored in portioning the "on offer" salmon, and at least the tomatoes should be better than my Iceland ones, had to bin three mouldy ones yesterday :s

Meals are a bit TBA due to the pending delivery being around lunch time, plan is a PB baguette beyond it's BBE date but it's a flexible option
Dinner, thinking of salmon salad with salmon on the way, but again it depends on delivery & BBE dates on the fresh stuff

This year is my "next year" for pulling new rhubarb, the crowns were planted last year, old mature ones and with luck should be producing crumbles this year. So far just leaves poking up wiht no stalk growth yet

I had a vegan cheese and marmite sandwich for breakfast. I'm drinking a lot of herbal tea today as it feels chilly to me. I'm looking forward to getting some sun next week.

I had a cookie for elevenses, along with more tea.

    Good afternoon everyone,
Oh I do like a nice ribeye JKS.
Our meal was absolutely gorgeous yesterday evening though very rich and I ended up staying up very late to avoid getting indigestion. Between the late night and clock change I'm feeling a tad tired today so I think a quiet day is on the cards.
Roast lamp top rump for dinner this evening, something nice and simple after all the prep and processes yesterday. BTW if anyone is looking for a Thermidor sauce this turned out to be an absolutely cracking one https://privatechefisleofwight.co.uk/lo ... thermidor/ . I have sauce leftover and might use it to coat sliced spuds. Back in the 70s/80s my Mum used to make a "poor man's" thermidor using diced potatoes and monk fish. Ironic that nowadays monk fish probably costs the same/more than lobster, then it was hard to sell and frequently unsold at the end of the fish market where my Dad worked. We ate a lot of it when I was growing up - oh I wish I could do so now!
LO salad for lunch with cheese and crackers.

Waitrose delivery arrived all present and correct, with large sprout sized Savoy cabbage being the only let down :s
Tonight is therefore chunky cod in breadcrumbs, served with skin on AF HM chips, and nuked frozen peas
First bash at trying skin on AF chips, only because it's the first lot of spuds I've had delivered with decent enough skins

@Farway - I had a tiny savoy cabbage in my veg box, but my Waitrose one was fine.
I've had a week of not really cooking, just eating whatever is easy. Today I've made a batch of broccoli and blue cheese soup mostly using broccoli stalks, and have enough for another couple of meals. Beetroot and a very sad red pepper are roasting with an onion and will also be souped. I've got some kale to pick over and re-wash, which I'll then roast. Shakshuka tonight, as I have lots of peppers and even more eggs.
  • Why does it feel later than it actually is and not earlier?

Brunch of scrambled eggs, mushrooms and bagel before a lovely walk today. Tonight was pork in cider and mustard sauce from the freezer with fresh roast potatoes and carrots plus broccoli for green-ness 😉

Caronc I have a memory of monk fish being used and called scampi back in the day as it was considered the poor mans scampi - I was once told people didn't want to buy it as it's a ugly fish which is why you rarely see more than the tails.  I haven't had it in ages I use to buy it if I saw it reduced on W8itrose fish counter pre 2020

Farway that's one of my worries with buying meat on the online shop, no control on the size which isn't good when CFO

Trip round to my sister after lunch for a cuppa and catch up, all gossip now shared 😁

lunch was a cheese and coleslaw roll.

I slowed cooked a half shoulder of lamb in the oven but couldn't get it to reach the 'fall off the bone stage' even after 3+ hours, I should have put it in the SC, I cooked it with a pomegranate molasses, lemon juice and garlic marinade and served with baked aubergine, fennel and red pepper and green beans. I was naughty and cooked a brioche bread and butter pudding which I ended up eating first whilst waiting for the lamb to cook 😁 the benefit of CFO pudding before main course.  First one I've made for years I followed Mary B recipe minus the cream, I'm sure I use to cook the custard before adding it to the bread but it turned out lovely so maybe not.  Plenty LOs of both courses and brioche in the freezer for another day 😋

Lovely full moon shining through the kitchen window 🙂

Sun's hiding at the moment but looks promising & maybe brighter later
My fridge is chock full with W8rose goodies now, and the BB dates are OK as well, especially the gammon which has next weekend, ideal for Easter
One of the hams is fine CFO size, the other is sort of a bit too CFO large but not large enough to nice & equally CFO portion and freeze.
With the easing of lock down today I may wait & see if any offers come my way regarding Easter meeting for 6 in a garden and then decide on the ham's fate

Today is slightly easier, there is the large "on offer" salmon fillet, which will portion up well, one for tonight, rest to freeze
I've just made a premix rapid loaf in the Panny, got up too late to make one of my own, far easier empty packet in, add water  and press rapid go
Lunch is a couple of slices of that loaf and maybe open the fresh packet of bacon that also arrived yesterday, BLT sarnie sounds nice for lunch
Dinner, some of the salmon fillet, fried in butter + EVO, with steamed fresh broccoli & carrots plus boiled "new" potatoes and maybe some frozen beans if I can find them
