Good afternoon everyone,
Frosty but bright here today, I've had a social morning in the garden with my sis and then my elder son popping by for socially distanced catch ups. It was lovely to see them but I'm glad to be back in the house as my feet are freezing.
We had a gorgeous fishy dinner yesterday, my son had his mussels and I had cod & clams cooked with spinach, chilli and baby tomatoes. I enjoyed every mouthful.
Bacon and egg butty for brunch and we are trying JO's jerk spiced chicken burger from the 7 ways book.1 -
Horrible weather here too @Farway and @Brambling. There's a rumour we might get snow tomorrow, which is annoying as I was planning on getting a few things done in the garden.
I made a fabulous and unrepeatable soup for lunch with the remains of some BNS soup, chicken stock (with bits of chicken in it), cabbage, sweetcorn and coriander. It could have used a bit of chilli but I'm not quite sure where in the freezer I have shoehorned them in! There was (briefly) a Waitrose delivery available for Tuesday when I looked last night, but given that the inside freezer is rammed and the outside one isn't yet empty, I restrained myself and am going to see how long I can manage with just the milkman and veg box order. My last supermarket delivery was 15th December, and I still have cheese left. And am finishing up the last of the creme fraiche (BBE 29 Dec 20 and absolutely fine). Even thought I'm well stocked (and have chard and fennel growing in the garden) there's a faint panic that I may suddenly run out of food and not be able to get a delivery. Although logically i'm probably several months away from that!1 -
I'm another one who doesn't do steaming Farway, so I've no idea if I have Apple TV? My nephew tells me that no one watches TV these days which I think makes my sister and I ancient 🙄
I'm hoping the snow stays away Greenbee, like you I could do with a dry day to do some tidying in the garden, the forecast is saying 50% chance tomorrow, I would like to keep on top of the weeds before spring
My new toy arrived just as I was cooking dinner, lovely and easy to set up just put next to current one and put in apple password and it did it all for me 🙂 even I could manage that although I can't get my short cut to my emails to work so that may have to wait until O2 shop opens again, I putting the password in settings but it isn't recognising itMy sister popped around for a gossip this afternoon, she was worried about a bang she heard when driving around so we were both on our knees in the rain checking the exhaust etc was still there. It goes and sounds ok so with my expert car knowledge we declared it was okWe did do a iceland order between us - I had a £8 off voucher when spending £40 as another sorry we couldn't deliver half your order last time which needed using by Friday. She spent £30 topping up her freezer etc and I got the £8 off for spending £10 😁 I was waiting for her to complain but she didn't 🤫 I've told her to expect missing items, who knows how much I'll get off next time 🙄
lunch was LO risotto. I defrosted half a beef joint I froze around Christmas and roasted it for dinner with the usual veg, I did take some root veg mash from the freezer to go with the green veg. I was going to braise some red cabbage but by the time my sister left I cba, I may tomorrow to go with the LO beefLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin1 -
Rainy, snowy, windy old day here - haven’t left the house except to go to the recycling bin 🙄
Roast dinner here as well - pork, roast potatoes, braised red cabbage (from the freezer), carrots and green beans. Plenty of leftovers!2 -
Looks like the southern contingent have been spared snow, just dull with early frostBrambling, there have been reports round here of mysterious bangs, I wonder if it was something like that your sister heard? Locally we've ruled out the French invadingAlso, streaming TV stuff, just had a search & you can get free Apple TV+ with your purchase, normally a fiver a month, not sure if you want it but maybe someone you know could benefit ?Greenbee, I think we are on similar trajectory with freezers and cheese, I don't need anything really except milk & salad veg, which I'll probably get from the Co-op next week, assuming the shelves aren't empty again, but there's always Costcutter as second choiceI heard this morning it is one year today since the first CV19 case was discovered in UK, little did anyone know, otherwise we could've stocked up earlier with loo rollsFood today, more use upsLunch, part baked baguette, one of the XCFO stock, with cheese & tom filling I thinkDinner, first time trying Iceland's prawn risotto, which I note they no longer sell, not sure if that's a clue what to expectI still have some HM stewed blackberry & apple + instant custard left just in caseEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Good morning everyone,
Solid frost here today and very grey sky so I wouldn't be surprised if it snowed. Unless the ice lifts I doubt I'll be going out.
The JO jerk chicken a bun recipe was very good but the chillies pickled in pineapple juice & red wine vinegar were just too spicy for us and that was just using standard SM red chillies rather than the Scotch Bonnets the recipe specified!
I've a whopping sirloin steak defrosting for another JO dish tonight. I'll sous vide then sear ours for ease and will scaling back the amount of chilli in the side sauce.
I'm trying to decide what this week's soup will be, I'll see if my son has any requests and if not it will be some sort of thick broth as it looks as though it's going to be a cold week.1 -
Managed to leave the house today for a walk but also had the excitement of washing the kitchen floor (did the ironing yesterday, Brambling 😂)
Scrambled eggs for lunch and then made a yummy bacon, broccoli and blue cheese gnocchi concoction tonight.2 -
Definitely advantage of WFH is no need to iron anything 🙂
I also washed the kitchen floor and then a jar of black sesame seeds jumped out of the cupboard and smashed 🙄 I'm considering spreading bubble wrap on the tilesI'm sure I'll be finding glass and seeds for days, I've already had to brush out the airing cupboard as they escaped under the door.
I read too late last night finishing my book 🙄 the trouble with electronic books not so easy to see how many pages to read so I'm a little bleary eyed today. I made soup using a HM soup mix From the freezer with added sad veg including a qtr bag of rocket and a broccoli stalk which I had for lunch, it tasted nice just not a good colour 🙂 I didn't fancy LO beef for dinner and wasn't really hungry so had some Brie and crackers with a appleLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
February all ready, but not raining for a change, just dullYesterday's Iceland risotto turned out to be salmon & broccoli not shrimp. Not impressed anyway, another one on my "not buying that again" list. I have half a pack left to clearFood for the day, the other PB baguette for lunch, usual cheese & tom fillingDinner, more use up / clear outFrozen Asda individual size frozen steak & gravy pie [probably gravy with hint of steak slurry in reality] , plus HM AF chips & LO baked beansSolved my tablet going slow & memory problem.I'm getting a Galaxy tab A7. I remembered I am a member of one of those panels that scans shopping, which is OK as CFO but would be PIA for a family I reckon, however a quick check showed enough points accrued to get one free, so it's on it's way from John LewisI do find the scanning pays off sometimes as I don't bother counting points, just let them build up until a requirement like this comes alongEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens1

Good morning everyone,
Good "freebie" Farway definitely sounds as though scanning and letting the points build is worth it.
Cold and frosty again here today with snow forecast tonight.
I'm just waiting for the timer to beep to turn the pressure cooker off, turkey broth for lunch today.
Inauthentic Singapore noodles for dinner tonight using some of a lurking tin of Spam, prawns, chicken and loads of veg.1
