The Waitrose delivery arrived yesterday as scheduled, all present and correct with nice long BBE dates on them, bacon into January for instance and the fresh chick is 18th, which gives me time for my 16th meat delivery & then re- assess freezer space
I know Waitrose stuff is often more expensive but IME the quality is there to justify it when I compare with some of my other online deliveries
@greenbee you must be closer than I thought, mine now comes from Havant, I assume you share the weather with me & Brambling?

The closest Christmas slot I could get from local S/M was next Monday, from Asda, but it's close enough to gamble on stuff remaining fresh until XCFO, and I keep adding to it as I think of things, like puff pastry because I spotted I have a "free" pack of sausage meat arriving with my meat which = sausage rolls :)

On sausage subject I've taken some out to defrost for today's meals
    Lunch is sausage sarnie
Dinner, LO mash + cabbage for a bubble & squeak, along with a couple of bangers in AF, plus use up LO braising steak gravy

    Good morning everyone,
I with you there Farway, IMHO cheapest isn't always best value for meat, cheese & fish and if you take advantages of SOs etc. sometimes the price difference is minimal per portion as there's less waste and shrinkage. Often on taste alone it's worth the extra pennies if you can afford it.
Cold and miserable here, one of those days when it hasn't got properly light and probably won't now. I'm pooch sitting today, he's under-impressed as my son who he adores isn't here. His wee face when he realised he wasn't in the dining room was so funny, talk about full of anticipation to deflation in a blink lol!
Lunch will be LO braised steak in a roll with onion chutney, tonight it's peri peri chicken thighs, baked spud and roast veg.

His lordship loves my nephew but doesn't associate my sister with him however my last two cats did, they would come running when they heard her voice and then look for him, she would get miffed when they came running, stop, look her up and down and then look behind her before stalking off to sulk.  She was bottom of the list it was nephew 2, nephew 1, BIL then my sis 😁

my current PITA went from sound to sleep on the sofa to causing havoc on my three piles of paperwork left on the floor when I went upstairs for two minutes, one day I will learn not to trust a sleeping cat, what started off as recycling, shredding, keep piles ended up spread across the room 🙀

lunch was a fish finger and tartar sandwich thanks for putting that idea in my head :) and dinner LO roast dinner from yesterday

  • School closed for Christmas holidays now and so am at home - makes it easier TBH! I had bought a large 3kg tray of lean mince beef with my click and collect at the weekend so fried it all off, got rid of extra fat in it and put it in small bags  in freezer. I find it so much easier and quicker to take out a bag of cooked mince and then decide what to make, bolognaise, chilli, Boboti, taco mince, shepherds pie etc.                                                 Want to get some jams & lemons and a few mince pies made this week but not bothering making too much else - lots of bits in the freezer already. Waiting to be able to get a turkey using my points on  a supermarket card. Should be available this week; 5-7kg turkey and I will make plenty of extras with it, freeze some, make stews, stock etc. It will be nice to have it on hand.

    Good afternoon everyone,
Enjoy your time off threepenny, I used to do similar with mince when I was working but don't tend to bother these days.
If all goes to plan my turkey and trimmings should arrive tonight, I think there should be enough freezer space but I've asked my son to bring his wee one with him just in case.
It's a nice and bright day here though due to rain later. I had to visit the post office and it was a lovely day to be out and about. The town was really busy though so I didn't linger just did what I had to do and came home.
Lunch is a corned beef and pickle roll with grapes. Dinner is tbc depending on when my delivery arrives.

We had your rain already Caron, it chucked it down earlier but sun's peeping out now

Into Dr first up, pulse is still going and I've some antibiotics on the way :)
After that it was post the Christmas cards & then Co-op which is in same place, mooching really having had a delivery on Sunday
However there were some ideal CFO cauliflowers fresh in, grabbed one of them, plus YS pack of posh 93% pork bangers & YS button mushrooms
Bangers in freezer, rest I'll eat over the next few days

Likewise with freezer space & meat Caron, my meat arrives tomorrow and depending on space I may also bung in the W8rose fresh chicken or roast it on Thursday
Lunch was salad + salad cream sarnie
Dinner, think I'll use one of the three cheese pizzas, with extra cheese & maybe add some of the YS mushrooms as well
One because I CBA to do much else & Two, make a bit more freezer space

Turkey arrived and with a bit of manhandling is in the freezer. Getting it there wasn't fun but job done. I'm starving now something quick on toast I think.

Glad the turkey fitted Caronc, my manager was telling me they were having difficulty getting a turkey as there are none about, I gave him the telephone number of the farm shop and suggested Iceland 😁 or a large chicken

Other than 30-45min on Friday I've finished work until the 4th 😁 I've offered to run some reports on Friday as the manager is the only one in and it was quicker than trying to explain how to do it.

lunch was a beef and horseradish sandwich and having 'found' a half dozen eggs which needed eating dinner was a cheese and onion omelette with AF chips and veg.  The rest of the eggs were boiled so they will be eaten in the next day or two
