  • I had free school meals at secondary too, you were given a raffle ticket and you had to stand in a different queue. I'm sure that is why I have bag lady syndrome. I always expect to end up homeless or poor even though I don't have any debt or a mortgage!

    Good afternoon everyone,
I enjoyed school dinners in primary school they were made on site and I don't remember the mash being lumpy and liked the milk puddings.  Just as well as it was take it or leave it and not woe betide you if you didn't finish your meal!!  High school was a different matter the food was disgusting and  it was canteen school style and the queues long and choices quickly run out. I soon persuaded my Mum I was old enough to make up a packed lunch instead.
I had a lovely evening yesterday, the chicken traybake was really tasty and my sis made a scrumptious honey and pine nut semifreddo for pud. There was some of the spud/onion mix LO and I've just had it or lunch with mushrooms and green beans chopped through.  CFO tonight and I think it will be breaded haddock and oven chips in the AF.

Jackpot, found some French beans ready for tonight's dinner, and some spare for another day

    Quick change of plan
With the likelihood of lock down or whatever returning PDQ judging from News my daughter is popping over tomorrow PM for a non bubble SD visit in the garden
With that in mind I've taken a pack of tasty @sda pork sausages out to defrost and I'll use a lurking OOD 2018 pack of sausage SC mix to concoct sausage & red beans in the SC
Should be cannelloni beans but I don't have any so red ones will have to do
Now I need to add replacement to my next order

I had problems getting to sleep last night, for some reason my brain was twirling over nothing important just stuff, so I turned on the light at midnight and menu planned than wrote a draft shopping list.  Both were tweaked slightly in the light of day  :)

i decided to go to w8itrose just after lunch as I still have vouchers from them, I ended up picking up £56 of meat for £15  :) as they had just added second YSs to a a lot of it. TBH a couple of things I won't normally buy like the rose veal fillets 2 for £2 rather than £8.50 (they will do if my sis comes up to stay for her birthday which looks doubtful :| ) and organic chicken fillet thighs £2 rather than £9. I usually buy the non organic ones which would still be more expensive.  It also Included turkey breast mince, pork mince, turkey stir fry, steak, nice sausages and prawns.

And to finish their lovely Hampshire free range pork fillet was on offer  20% off on the meat counter, the ticket printed full price and when I told him as well as saying sorry he took another £2 a kilo off 😁.  I did add flour and caster sugar to the shopping just in case, if I don't use it my nephew will 😁.  An unfortunate blond moment meant I picked up a dozen eggs which I already had in the fridge 🙄 so I'll either get egg bound  or pop some to my sister I may take a pack of the chicken thighs to her.

lunch was a couple of boiled eggs with soldiers.  I'm not sure on dinner I was going to roast a small beef joint but may leave that until tomorrow and have some YS garlic and parsley king prawns with stir fry veg and rice or noodles

Caronc  some filo pasty fell into the trolley so Jamie's Kiev's are on the cards  🙂

i have missed a good YS W8itrose shop 🤓😁 and if things go the way they seem to be may be my last for a while

    Good evening everyone,
Enjoy your time with your DD Farway
Great haul Brambling - glad the filo fell in the basket.
No stockpiling here  either PN but I'm definitely making sure I have a stash of what I regard as the building blocks of our favourite meals so I'm topping up stocks wee bit sooner than I would have pre-COVID and tbh have kept that up throughout. While the food chain hasn't broken and yes SMs are better prepared it will be hard to make sure supply doesn't get pinched in places depending on demand. No the world won't end if I can't get tinned toms or my preferred coffee/tea bags for example but I'd rather not run out  those if I can avoid it.  I book ahead with my slots so I can get what I want so I'm covered until mid-October but I suspect after that it might be take what you can get. To me there is a huge difference between stupidly panic buying and keeping well-stocked especially as winter looms and then Brexit.
I started clearing out the green house this afternoon so have a large bowl of half-ripe & green toms that I'll ripen on trays on the kitchen table. Picked three more cucumbers so two have found a new home (along with a bag of ripe toms) after my sis popped round for a cuppa.  The cues are still going strong so I hope to get a few more yet. The beans are on their last legs but I got enough for dinner tonight and a few to add to the freezer stash. The touch of frost the other night has pretty much finished them though the runners still have a few flowers blooming.
I've taken a small piece of boned lamb leg out of the freezer for tomorrow. I was going to simply roast it with garlic and rosemary however there's LO harissa spiced yoghurt from yesterday which I'm going to use as the basis of a marinade with lemon, garlic & oregano added instead.
My son has gone to see his Dad so I'm CFO as planned - AF breaded haddock & HM wedges with garden beans, spinach and peas for dinner.

Not stock piling here either as I'm sure one bag of flour and one of caster sugar isn't stock piling 🙂 I would have brought the YS items pre CV.  I didn't have any deliveries in lockdown and will do what I did last time and will avoid the bigger SMs sticking to the local T Exp, farm shop, farmers market and our small M&S food hall, using my normal healthy larder cupboard supplies to tide me over for stuff I can't get in those.  Personally I don't believe anything from the daily mail 🙄

the whole house stinks of garlic, not because of the prawns but because I dropped a jar of lazy garlic which travelled up the wall under the airing cupboard door and all over my clean floor 😳 No vampires will come near the house and probably my newly cleaned wheelie bin for weeks, as it's two weeks until the next collection.  My nephew forgot to put my bin out when I was away so after four warms weeks it wasn't pleasant after they emptied it yesterday 🤢 so this morning Was the joy of scrubbing it out and I've too short arms for the task so it's not my favourite job

  • EDIT: And next, I loaded the DM 'news' website.  https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8750427/Ocado-warns-running-delivery-slots-second-lockdown-looms-Britain.html
I think this is scare-mongering though.

Ocado have had that message on their slot page since 1st September because of extra demand caused by their new partnership with M&S.

Yikes Brambling - turned into a "not so lazy" garlic as it will no doubt appear for weeks. On the bin front I'll raise you my son a few years ago dumping old fishing bait in my bin. Cue more flies than a murder who dunnit. It took several goes (by him) with a pressure washer to clear all the eggs and subsequent maggots🤢. No I don't think a few extra bits  that you would have bought anyway pre-COVID counts as mad stock-piling if it did I'd be guilty as charged on many counts with a few "priors" to be taken into consideration!!

Today I've had a banana, two crumpets/marg, the final 1/4 of cheesecake and I've just had a pouch rice and the 2nd half a tin of meatballs/tomato sauce.  I've also had 1-2 of those chocolate fancies.

Overall, in recent days I know I've now scoffed: 1 pack of jaffa cakes, 6/8 Kipling After 8 fancies, a whole 65p cheesecake (about 6"), a 250g bag of pastilles, half a box of Matchmakers ... I can't remember anything else.
So, I've still got: 2 fancies, a few matchmakers and an unopened pack of my favourite misshapes choccies.
I've also got most of the doritos.  I started with 6+5 packs and I've scoffed one, so I've got 10 packs left.
I've a niggling feeling I've completely forgotten something though.

Only had the pouch rice as that 2nd half a can of meatballs needed to be finished.
