Definitely cooler here this weekend, yesterday morning was drizzling and we had a heavy rain storm after lunch today but the threatened thunder seems to have missed us.
Yesterday's trip to the opticians turned out expensive as my left eye has deteriorated, they are just replacing the one lens but I need it in two pairs of glasses and my lenses don't come cheapat least it's cheaper than new glasses for the second year running. It also seems that I have small cataracts in both eyes
although nothing to worry about yet. One of my eldest sisters had hers removed just before Xmas and my eldest also has them.
I tidied the kitchen today and found the cake tin I was looking for last weekI then untidied it again by doing some bulk cooking mainly using courgettes
I extended the mince in my lasagna with grated courgette and carrot to make 6 instead of 4 portions very MSE and made a veg and tomato sauce with chorizo also froze and two courgette and carrot cakes (1 for next door as a thank you for mowing my lawn) .
Whilst the oven was on I cooked a small gammon joint and made a small portion of cauliflower cheese when making the white sauce. The rest of the cauliflower was blanched and froze. After all the sampling whilst cooking I didn't fancy much to eat, I did have a small bite of the lasagna before freezing it and I may sample a slice of cake with a cuppa in a whileLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin3 -
Very dark & dull outside, the weather radar has me in the middle of two massive storms, some coming your way bramblingToday is looking like another not doing much day, yesterday's rain means no requirement for watering. I may mooch to check apples & plums but that's about itYesterday's oven cooked bangers were lush, I do like those and now I'm gradually learning how to shop online, quantities etc I'll get an extra pack for freezing next time.I did order on a buy 2 for £4 offer but the other selection was not available, hence only one pack of sausages, still offer price though, which is why I like the Asd@ methodI had a taster yesterday's B & A crumble, it's a good 'un this time. I used Demerara sugar for a changeLunch today, probably cheese & salady sarnieDinner, last of the LO bean pasta, lightly nuked to warm it up. Just had a banana for breakfast. Starving ... and would've probably had toast for breakfast, but current advice is to steer clear of somebody - and that person's usually always in/out of the kitchen, so I'll give toast a miss until things have been sorted out.
Might go out in a bit, have a miscellaneous drive around and stop by a chip shop later. See how things turn out. it's a toss up between staying clear until things are done/dusted -v- staying in and being nosey.2 -
Good morning everyone,
Goodness PN the joys (not) of communal living! Hope it gets sorted out today.
Tipping it down here this morning, it's a tad cooler but still very muggy. Hopefully the rain will clear the air a bit.
A day for my voluntary admin stuff I think, I'm fortifying myself with a large☕️ before making what I suspect may be a very long phone call.......
Ham salad wrap for lunch and venison stir fry for dinner to use up the other half of the veg/noodle kit. I'll make my own sauce tonight as found that the one I had picked to go with it (teriyaki) was too sweet for my taste.1 -
As you say the problems of renting just a room PN especially when you consider that the support for people with severe the MH issues as you described are a lot scarcer now than they were and a lot fewer hostels and beds for people who need them. If it was me I would probably go out but only if I have someone to phone me to tell me once it is all over, if you're there and it kicks off you may be considered a witness......
Farway it's getting very dark here with a few big drops of rain so we could be getting your gift of rain
Not exactly sure of what to eat today I have gammon so it may be a gammon salad as I have plenty of HG tomatoes and some salad leaves etc to eat maybe with some HM coleslaw? I have some mussels in white wine which I will probably have for dinner and a PB roll which would be used for dipping. I chopped up some fresh pineapple, melon and mango before work this morning so that will be nibbled on sometime todayLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin2 -
A worthwhile garden mooch, more windfall apples.I saw or heard somewhere to leave grass long under fruit trees, cushion the windfalls, seems to work although the tree is not a tall one, low to groundBecause I've got a crumble these may just be stewed, but as my neighbour is off to Sainb's and is getting me some bananas I may offer them to herDoesn't seem quite a fair swap but I did give her some runners the other day so a clear conscience I thinkEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens2

Good evening everyone,
I'd be delighted for apples in exchange for bananas Farway
Glad all seems to be in hand PN!
It stopped raining late afternoon though it's still very overcast, definitely much cooler this evening than it's been. I made the most of rain stopping and made a foray to the bramble patch, another 1kg+ of fruit picked and there's still loads to come. I gave my indoor parsley a much needed haircut and a huge bowlful has been chopped, bagged and frozen. Oh I do love my herb scissors for jobs like that. Not something I would ever have bought myself but a very welcome gift that I've used lots over the years. I was going to trim the basil and make pesto but didn't get that far today.
Voluntary admin has been progressed (I think) and yes it did involve two very long calls. I was hoping the insurance company would email me the stuff I need this afternoon but it's not appeared so I may well be back on the phone to them tomorrow!
With the weather being so grotty earlier I decided my ham salad wrap was going to be converted to a hot cheese & ham quesadilla with a salad bowl on the side. It was scrumptious and really hit the spot. Dinner tonight will only take a few minutes to prep and about the same to cook though the venison will need a good rest to make sure it's tender as it's so lean. I'm still working my way through the 1/2 deer I got last Autumn, I thought I was ahead of the game breaking down the haunch to CFO sized cuts not knowing then that just a few months later my CFO life would change so dramatically and unfortunately neither my nephew or son are venison fans so it's not really been used. It's all vac packed though so should be fine in freezer for as long as needed. For tomorrow I've liberated a small and lonely piece of rump steak as I've a notion for a steak & mushroom "sub" and have some ciabatta rolls in the freezer which will do nicely for that.

Good morning everyone,
Glad all is sorted PN
Dry here just now but we have a warning for heavy rain/thunder this afternoon. Before the weather breaks I've done some outdoor jobs and watered the greenhouse. I've also given the bathroom a good scrub so it's been a reasonable productive morning. I'm off now to make a batch of pesto and one of mash to use up rampaging basil and a spud surplus. I might have some of the mash tonight with my steak & mushrooms instead of a roll.
Later this afternoon my elder son is coming over so I can put him through his paces for an interview later in the week. It's been a while since I did any interviewing so will need to go over the job spec and come up with some questions.

Oooh, intriguing PN. At least the kitchen may be easier nowYou seem to be mixing in exotic circles, pop stars, floods, and now thisMeanwhile over the border it's same old CFO day here, rain overnight but still went and watered the volunteer pots, more to keep out of the Cleaner's way than watering needsBack home to a cheese & piccalilli sarnie for lunchDinner I had thought about getting some steak out, but spotted a MFO is on it's use by date, so it's eat or freeze and eat seems easier CBA choiceIt's Asd@ chicken Korma, and I've just spotted it's using Thai chicken, nothing about that on line.Curses I'd never have bought it if I'd known, another drawback of Internet shoppingI'll eat it of course, just annoyed at myselfcaronc said:Later this afternoon my elder son is coming over so I can put him through his paces for an interview later in the week.
