Just randomly found another food offering. I think what jerked my "alert" string was the ridiculous language used by many of those who were "sharing" the information and I suspect most are actually social media "influencers" being paid to post, and/or a gaggle of friends who run businesses promoting each other. While some businesses simply offer food boxes for sale, others are "shared" in a bizarre way.
Just found another ... woman gushing and using this phrase "...These food heros are also teaming up with other food independents...." and I figured "nobody speaks like that for real".
So, what were they offering?
Four raw burgers, 4 raw strips of bacon, 4 cheese slices, 4 burger buns (brioche?) and four tiny paper/card pots of stuff to dollop on them (about 1 tablespoon apiece).
You order by noon Thursday ... and they deliver it in a box on Saturday, raw - you have to cook these burgers for yourself at home. £35.
Fancy a beer with that? 4 cans £15.
Bit of ice-cream? 1 pint of gelato ice cream £8.50.
So ... you have to order it now, fancy it Saturday (and be in to receive it) .... then cook it yourself anyway.... burger, beer, ice-cream (no choices, you either want what they're selling or not).... £58.50.
Not even any chips with that!3 -
PN, proves the old maxim, fools & money are easily parted. I suppose if pushed & in a poshish pub that type of price would be OKish, at least it would be cooked & served etcI've noticed there are a lot of chancers entrepreneurs being flushed out with the lock down, some good, like our local greengrocer doing click & collect, others are as your exampleFine & sunny day, bit cool still but wind has droppedI'm slowly building up a Sainsbob's click & collect shopping list, no idea if I'll ever get to collect it, it's more a day dream work in progress at the moment.I plunged in a ordered my Abel & Cole stuff, FR streaky bacon, straight out of comb honey & organic bangers. The bangers, which I'd call chipolatas, are second choice, OOS of the one I really wantedDelivery on Thursday. I'll see what it's like before I repeat orderLunch, guess what? Another yummy ploughman's. Stilton & Cheddar out of fridge already to reach ambient temperatureDinner, thinking about a cheesy baked spud salad. One of the cheeses is supposed to be ideal melted, so I'll try that out inside a baked spud, or two as I'll be using the frozen ones which are not that large to be a main item on a plateEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens4

Good afternoon everyone,
Yes weeding through the good/bad/rip off online delivery offers that have sprung up is a challenge. So far locally I'm finding that those with existing businesses who have basically moved to deliver/collect models are OK but some of the came out of nowhere ones requiring a deeper delve!
The baked bean falafel were well worth the faff is you excuse the pun. We halved the recipe which made 10 decent sized ones and cost about a £1. My son was sceptical when I suggested them but ended up scoffing the ones LO from dinner as a bed time snack. I'll definitely make them again😁.
Today's the day when my elder son and his fiancee move back to Scotland, I'm so looking forward to having them a bit nearer even if lockdown means we can't get together. My younger son will probably be here until the end of the month anyway depending on how his company takes things forward but if they resume site visits will need to move back to Newcastle. My nephew is doing okay and we are hoping he might get home on Thursday.
Lunch was brie on toast with baby plum tomatoes and grapes. Tonight we're trying HM southern fried chicken in the air fryer which we are having with slow cooked corn cobs, salad and HM potato salad.

I had a banana before my walk. I then had two wraps with salad and mustard when I got in. I was going to make roasted chickpeas to go in them but I couldn't be bothered as I was hungry. I will do them later.2025 GOALS

Nice to have one of your chicks home Caronc
I've had a look at the baked bean falafel recipe, one to add to the list to try although I seem to have several tins of chickpeas in at the moment so there will be hummus soon as well. It's the time of year for salads so I'll soon use them up as I like them with feta in a buck wheat salad during the summer.
A text from my hair dresser means a provisional appointment for the the last Saturday in July which will be 5 months between appointments for me, I can live with the grey roots as no one can see me but the fringe is driving me mad, I hid the scissors at the weekend whilst sewing as they were taunting me to try a little home hairdressing and as my hair has a mind of its own best avoided. I believe the natural highlights showing are more white in places than grey thanks to my natural red highlights when i was younger and as I walk across the landing in the evening the light bounces off of them and they glint in the mirrorBy July I may have learnt to love the grey
I've cheese envy Farway, but should eat what I have in the fridge, I was late to town on Saturday and missed that the stall in the farmers market which usually has chutneys and smoked garlic also had local cheesesThe sign said sussex charmer (which is great on cheese on toast) Brighton Blue and a couple of others all which I know are very nice 'proper' cheeses
After Nelski sang the praises for liver and bacon I've liberated the last portion of lambs liver from the freezer and some bacon and will cook liver and bacon with mash potato, cabbage and green beans for dinner I also have some sad looking spinach so that may get wilted down too. Whilst digging around in the freezer I put the smoked pepper mackerel and smoked salmon near the top of the drawer and will get prawns at the weekend when I'm next in a SM to copy Nelski againI may buy some watercress as well as I love seafood and watercress especially when it's from Hampshire so lovely and peppery which is what the farm shop has been selling
Lunch was the last of the spicy bean burgers from the freezer I will look out for some again as they are handy to have and cook in less than 10 minutes from frozen in the air fryer. I picked up some YS mediterranean style pita breads in M&S on Saturday which are rounder and thicker than the usual ones and stuffed the burger in there with some raw spinach.

I'm quite 'desperate' now for more "proper food". Putting off buying another bag of chips for at least a few more days.
I'd love "normal simple food", pie/chips, or giant yorkie filled with stuff and mash, or chilli/rice.... I just want to be back in control of my food again... and simple things like being able to put things in a fridge, or a freezer... to have my bits and bobs around me, use the slow cooker or microwave or toaster oven ... start looking closer at air fryers too
Even the sheer luxury of having a potato, microwaved hot, sliced in half and topped with hot beans and grated cheese seems a far, far, distant memory.
Houses are very very slowly appearing on the market. e.g. 6 in the entire county today. But when I look closely they were on before lockdown and were removed, now back on at the same price. I didn't like them before.... still don't. Some would be passable if they were in my preferred area, but there's just too many compromises to just pick one and buy it.
Today so far I've had a noodle pot, half a pack of fruit pastilles (5th bag I think) and a tin of marrowfat peas (cold from the tin with a spoon). Later I might make up some instant onion flavoured mash,
The endless monotony would be thoroughly enjoyable if I had my own home... as it is, it's really starting to grate on me now... I'll start looking for my next rental later this week.... time to move on and move out now things appear a little more flexible... but accommodations are short on the ground as people aren't moving, landlords aren't letting (especially ex-holiday lets) ... so I'll have to wait and see what turns up.2 -
PN I know you would hate it but my instinct is that I would just like to give you a hug for everything you have to go through.....and yes I know you would run a mile
Isolation is hard for all and especially us on our own but you have it so much worse without your own "stuff" around you, the traumas of you're odd LL and quite honestly a shocking diet selection. I genuinely hope you find your forever home very soon and can have some real food again. Please get a takeaway tomorrow it won't set you back much money wise but we all need to take small pleasures (and some vitamins) when we can
Brambling I can only rave about the platter it was a real treat and of course eaten again todayI had some coleslaw with it and all the sauces ....lush Enjoy the liver it can't be faulted in my eyes !
caronc Glad to hear your nephew is improving and I will be trying the baked falafels too
Still full so tonight may well be some Kettle chips wine and a cream eggCheers me dears
