Good evening everyone,
Wednesday I like to roast carrots before making carrot soup it really brings their flavour and sweetness out.
Back to CFO tonight as my son left early-afternoon, the weather is manky here and seemed to follow him for most of the journey which added a good 3/4 of an hour onto his journey as the driving conditions were awful until he passed Carlisle and started heading East.
Christmas decorations are back in their box and the tree moved outside. It's potted so I'll replant it into a bigger pot in the Spring and see how it does. Despite a thorough clean up I'll no doubt be finding needles for a while yet:eek:, though as shedding goes it wasn't too bad.
We had a lovely day yesterday - played lots of parlour games then watched a bit of TV later on. The rib of beef was superb and there was virtually no shrinkage, I'm definitely with you Farway in agreeing that it's worth the extra spend for a decent piece (though my was much reduced on SO some months ago).
The rib bone wasn't massive and the fat well-trimmed so it fed the four of us generously with both lads having seconds, my son took some slices with him and there's enough left to do me for dinner tonight and a sarnie tomorrow. The bone will be going in the SC overnight with pot veg and the scrapings from the gravy jug to make stock.
My son & split a wodge of gorgeous 48 month aged parmigiano reggiano I'd been given. We did of course have to have a taste and my it's glorious.:D My portion has been further split and vac packed so it keeps and it's less easy for me to nibble in at it mindlessly.
Tomorrow I need to have a proper sort through the fridge and decide a meal plan around what is lurking. So far over the festive period, apart from turkey bones LO after making stock and peelings, the only waste has been two soggy profiteroles and a mouldy lime. However, I know I have various bits of cream and a cauli needing used up so I think cauli cheese or soup will be made over the next few days.
Lunch today was a naughty Gregg's steak bake, my son had to run an errand in town and returned with one each - it was lovely.:) Easy dinner tonight using LOs from yesterday with some boiled spuds & green beans. There is also about a glass and a half of opened red wine needing used - it would be a shame to waste it.........;)0 -
I've cheese envy Caronc, actually I also have rib of beef envy
. I miss the local meat which was sold in the farmers market, it was a cooperative of local Tennant farmers from a estate about 20 miles away not cheap but lovely meat
Back in the office today to the usual beginning of the month chaos not helped by a two hour meeting turning into six hours, at least there's only one more day this week :j
I picked up a nice piece of Hampshire free range pork fillet reduced from the W8itrose meat counter lunchtime it was on offered and then reducedI may pop it in the freezer but have a couple of days to decide (I only went in for potatoes and porridge ). I was tempted by their chicken which are on offer so may go back for one tomorrow  as I'm fancying roast chicken
Lunch was HM chicken and veg soup which turned out really tasty, there are two more portions left and dinner was LO Nasi Goreng with tenderstem broccoli. I was glad of the LOs as I didn't get home until lateLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -

I am going to cook up some red lentils and add some tikka seasoning to the rest of the soup tomorrow.
Maybe add some paprika for a nod towards mediterranean flavours (since you have the pepper in there).
I'm on a bit of a Spanish tip at the moment thanks to the Rick Stein repeats, so my steak, potatoes & sprouts turned into steak, whole padrons, whole garlic cloves, shallots, chorizo, mushrooms & crusty bread (and a glass or two of a cheeky Slovenian red) Steak was too rare, so it had to go back in the pan, but not a problem (apart from trying to eat it with only one hand, and that's prone to bad cramp at the moment. I saved a bit for the cat too, and some for ramen at the weekend
Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?0 -
unrecordings I have padron envy I adore them but unless you go to a Spanish restaurant or grow them yourself they are impossible to find round here:(. At the tapas place last week we ordered lots for the table and I think I had most of them;)
You should definitely have a look online Brambling if your local source has dried up. I've been very happy with my purchases and so has Farway. Most seem to do "sign up" discounts and then various offers throughout the year which can really bring the cost down if you don't mind buying in reasonable quantities. I tend to place an order at least twice a year which works well for me as I can usually order enough to avoid delivery charges. Unfortunately my nearest Waitrose is 25+ miles away so no opportunity for YS and they don't deliver here.0 -
Apart from growing them last year (and hoping to do so again this year), I get mine from Waitrose I'm afraid

I popped out last night, picked up a pack of six cheese/onion rolls (like sausage rolls). 30% off sticker, so needed to be eaten.
Had two for tea last night and two for breakfast this morning.0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
After a promising start weather-wise it's back to wet and miserable. While was dry I did a couple of outdoor "to dos" and replenished my indoor log stack. My house is more or less back to some semblance of tidiness and I gutted out my "tub" shelves which had become very jumbled over Christmas. I think my nephew is coming over late for some application coaching but apart from that I'm for a quiet afternoon.
Lunch was the last of the beef in a sandwich with cucumber sticks & grapes. Dinner will be something from the freezer probably fish & oven chips.0 -
Dull & drizzle start but sun's out now, into town after porridge breakfast, mainly needed milk & butter
Good spot on the W8rose pork Brambling, if it is anything like my FR pork you'll love it
In my Asda were huge ham lumps, nearly 1/4 pigs worth, just way too huge for one even cut up & frozen. W8rose had similar posh crackling ones half price, again too big for one. So no YS today
Lunch was the last HM C & O pasty
Dinner, bit torn really, I think it'll' be cheesy beans on use up toast with fried eggs topping and maybe use up not quite manky mushrooms despite having LO beef & use veg. Think I'll save the beef & veg for tomorrowEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I had a leftover Gregg's vegan sausage roll for breakfast.:o:D
I had one for dinner last night along with the new McDonald's vegan things.
I feel insanely thirsty now after all that sodium!
I don't know what I fancy as I still feel quite full. I probably should have something healthy!Good evening everyone,

Yes, it definitely needed some extra oomph.0
