I think you've been hit by heir reported poor customer service. Apparently roaming is available in Switzerland.

Virtual networks such as TPO use the roaming agreements of their host network i.e. 3 for TPO. Coverage details for Switzerland are here

Not necessarily, Virgin and EE have different roaming arrangements in some countries. Smarty doesn't even allow roaming.
  • That's odd, I managed to get the same deal late last year and my data worked perfectly when I went to France in December. I've also found that their customer service over the phone is a lot better than it is over live chat or email.
  • I agree with Space Captain. Customer service may respond but are sometimes unable to answer all the queries due to them not owning the cell network they use - and perhaps not understanding the business they are in!

When asking about why I could not withhold my number when making a call they directed me to a problem with my device. After a very simple SIM swap I ascertained the issue was with TPO. However, they failed to acknowledge this - and perhaps didn't understand the issue either!
  • My experience of TPO is OK but ASDA is better.

  • My experience of TPO coverage is OK.

No network will guarantee coverage in buildings

    True.

But EE were very helpful in providing me with a "signal box" which plugs into the broadband router and gives me an EE signal. No charge as I have been with them nearly 20 years.

Many network providers allow you to use your phone over WiFi.

Another option is to get a free VOIP number from Sipgate and use Zoiper.

All these options assume you have a good broadband connection and WiFi.
  • Old thread, I know, but I would look elsewhere. My experience of TPO is OK.

  • My experience of TPO is OK but I can quite understand why nhatchett1951 would leave TPO.
