  • I received my monthly invoice yesterday (18 Aug 2016) to discover that my monthly tarrif had been increased by 25% and my call allowance reduced by 50%. In addition to this my data connectivity hase ceased working. After much digging around I found out that they have switched from EE to 3 and in the process changed tariffs. The reason I chose TPO was the fact that they used EE as their carrier (the other main 3 carriers do not work where I live) - in short they shot me in the foot. They have not informed me of any of these changes (checked e-mail and text messages and found no sign of such communication) which flies in the face of Ofcoms guide lines. Contacting them has proved challenging but I eventually (63 minutes) contacted a memeber of their customer service team and managed to get a PAC code having read various horror stories of other TPO customer's loosing their telephone numbers in this EE to 3 move. I am not sure that TPO is a SCAM but they most certainly useless at running a business - good enought for me to leave).

I have recently taken out a mobile sim card with The People's Operator. The sim card arrived on Monday and I submitted my number transfer request the same day and this completed yesterday.

I've found out that in my area there is very little signal on the network they use (Three).

TPO have confirmed this to me by e-mail but say that because I have activated the sim (I had to in order to transfer over my number) they will not refund me what I have paid so far.

Is this allowed ? - I can't use the services unless I am not at home.

    Their T&C's do say:

"If you cancel your contract within 14 days of placing your order, as long as the SIM card has not been activated we will issue a full refund of your initial payment."

I thought though that they couldn't do this ?? - Maybe I'm wrong but I thought I would ask on here to make sure.

    Thanks in advance

No provider offers 100% coverage, did you not check on the 3 website's postcode mapping system?
Unless you were told that your postcode did have coverage, they have not mis-sold the service, and normal cancellation terms apply once you activate the SIM.
It's also a good idea to use a free SIM to check reception before you switch to a new provider, as postcode checks are not 100% accurate.

Thanks - The coverage checker shows us on the borderline of signal/no signal - We used Three many years ago and it used to be fine, so not sure why it no longer works for us.
  • I thought the 14 day money back rule was law? As long as you requested refund within that 14 days you should get it. I'm sure that's a law for all selling isn't it, not just mobile phones?
  • Hi.

As i am always looking to cut down our outgoings i felt it was time to switch from the very poor service provided by Giff Naff.
So me and my better half switched over to TPO.
No problems except setting up a new sim card in my son's phone.
I stupidly gave them an incorrect email address to send the welcome email to.
When i realised it was me who had messed things up, i contacted them to let them know the correct working email address to send it to.
    Then i emailed them again....and again......and again.
My response is always the same in that they have resent the email, which clearly has gone to the incorrect non functioning address i mistakenly provided them with.
However in my emails i have clearly stated the correct address many times over.

So today rather than wasting oxygen, i decided to cut our losses and go through the motions of purchasing a sim again.
This time providing the correct email address on the form.
However now, when clicking on the FIND ADDRESS tab, it will not find the address, thus halting the purchasing process.

I feel like a woodpecker on steroids, Ram Man from the He Man cartoons, you get the point.
Chocolate fireguard and glass hammer spring to mind.

    Any advice appreciated.
I will now go and sit in a dark room.

All i want is a cheap sim so we can keep our small budget down, and keep tabs on our sometimes errant and wayward son.

    Should be simple no?

How about 1p mobile? you do need to top up regardless of use & credit left every 90 days, which is why I do not use them

Or maybe Asda or Tesco, one on EE other O2, at least they know about customer service

what about Threes 3p, 2p, 1p payg sim order on there website.
3p a Min, 2p Text, 1pmb Data first top-up is £10 then you can Top-up £5 a time if you need to you don't have to top-up every month if you don't want to.

AFAIK TPO runs off of Three network

I just ordered a new SIM card from TPO but found that I could not get a signal inside my home. TPO will not refund for the SIM (my credit card was debited at the time of placing the order). Do I have the right to demand a refund, as the SIM is clearly not fit for (my) purpose?
