Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.. I have done it before but only between 2 bank accounts.. Yes Daps, that was the article I was referring to... I'm glad I posted the question as I'll look at it again to see about doing the funding in a single day as Archi Bald suggests. Thank you as well Grumbler for your input.. It's just that it is a waste of time at the moment to put it into an isa as the interest rates are terrible...0

Does a joint Santander 123 account pay interest on two lots of £20000 i.e. on up to £40000?
If so is it possible to convert a sole Santander 123 account into a joint account?
If not; if I open an account in my name and create Direct Debits that pay into my wife’s Santander 123 account and another current account, belonging to me, will they be accepted by Santander as fulfilling the requirement to have 2 direct debits before they will pay interest?
Part of the Santander security is some questions and answers like in what city were you born. When logged on is there a link to change these security questions. I just can't find it.
And lastly is it still really difficult to close a Santander account. Last time I asked they wanted me to book an interview with a branch manager.
As you can tell I've run out of DDs and I'm also a bit wary of the £24 a year fee.
Also I find Santander "Help" site search to be next to useless
Thanks0 -
No its £20K per account, but you can have an account each and a joint one.
You cannot create DDs from one of your family's accounts to another. If you need DDs try a Tesco internet saving account (search this board).
I suspect the interview with a manager was just to try to convince you to stay or to sell you something else. Stand your ground - they can't refuse to close it.0 -

Not impressed!
I transferred 2 accounts for me and my wife with no problem at all (other than it being a bit slow). I have also now transferred them both to halifax and nationwide respectively so have received £400 ish since Christmas0 -
Please note when you apply for the TCB Classic Plus Account, you will be credit checked. I read the T&C's but was silly enough to select 'No employment' as I couldn't be bothered sticking the details in and was subsequently declined without any reason. The end page allows you to click through to a page that *should* list their reasons, but nothing was actually mentioned. Frustrating to say the least... Hope this helps.0

I read a few pages ago that there is no need to wait once you get a switching bonus for switching bank account and that, once the bonus goes into your account, you can switch again and get another bonus and so on. I just wanted to clear up a few queries I have to help with my planning.
Someone mentioned that, if you have the Halifax reward current account, you could open a basic account, switch from that and keep the £5 per month reward account. Is it actually possible to open the basic account and keep the reward account? From what I read, you cannot, for example, with Nationwide's account have the account paying 5% interest plus their other account, which gives free travel insurance so I assumed that Halifax's terms would be similar and if I have a reward account, I couldn't open a basic account.
My salary is currently paid into my reward account. If I give the switching team for my next bank the basic current account details and not my reward account, would I be able to keep my salary going into the reward account, transfer a couple of DDs over to the basic and pay a standing order into the basic every month to cover these then switch without having to have my salary moving from bank to bank?
I was reading M&S's terms and it says:you must not have previously used the Current Account Switch Service or submitted a ‘Switching your standing orders and Direct Debits’ form to us for either of your M&S current accounts (whether or not they are currently open) in order to be eligible for the offer.
I am aware that some of these accounts, which I have already opened without switching to them, involving paying in so much each month, I do this via a standing order already to ensure I'm meeting all the terms to run the account.
Thanks in advance for any advice.0 -

I reckon you can open a basic Halifax account alongside the £5 Reward account.
Regarding Nationwide, your comment is interesting. I have their account that features the travel insurance and I applied for the other account and was refused it. So iguess your statement is the reason why, ie I already have an account with them.

Yes, your salary would carry on going into the Reward account, switching would only take place on the nominated account sort code and account number that you had elected to be switched.
I was reading M&S's terms and it says:

You wont be able to switch twice into M&S as you suggest you'd like to. with Halifax there is a note on the site:
£125 WHEN YOU SWITCH TO US.Use the Current Account Switch Service and close your old account held elsewhere. If you've had cashback for switching since January 2012, we're sorry but you don't qualify.
I am aware that some of these accounts, which I have already opened without switching to them, involving paying in so much each month, I do this via a standing order already to ensure I'm meeting all the terms to run the account.
