That's not what I was commenting on, I was questioning your assertion that it's "Good to see that Martin Lewis and forums like this are having a real impact on the public's perceptions of these huge institutions".Reputation wrote: »Isn't that the point of these forums? To make the public aware of the best deals and in doing so, to encourage the other companies to try similar or better initiatives?
My comment about truth related only to your comment about the benefit of sites like this having an impact on perceptions, nothing to do with the truth or not of the article itself!Reputation wrote: »Also, the article is all based on data so there is no question of truth.
Having said that, the article reads as being unscientific and highly subjective but claims to be supported by data that isn't published (visibly) on the site. Perhaps it's available by subscription - it's difficult to avoid the conclusion that you're involved in the quoted site in some way and trying to promote it....0 -
You certainly are an unwelcoming bunch on this site!
My interpretation of the piece was that it was all about the analysis of public perceptions of the institutions. I don't actually work for the company but I am capable of reading a few other pages to understand what they do.
Perhaps I overstated data = truth, but I meant that it was written from an objective viewpoint based on stats, and was in response to "Even if that was true", which is basically immediately dismissing it as false.
Having said that i really don't care enough about this so I'm just going to back away quietly and avoid this forum which i think will make us all happy.0 -
Just opened a Barclays account. Free £4 per month with two DDs to Tesco savings, plus they're the only major high street bank I've never been with and I might as well complete the set.

I must be suffering from current account fatigue as I can't get excited about the £4/mth. May be I should give myself a good kicking as Barclays is the one account missing from my collection.0

I agree with you. But then I thought, it's £48 a year. How many packets of Spangles will that buy you?I must be suffering from current account fatigue as I can't get excited about the £4/mth. May be I should give myself a good kicking as Barclays is the one account missing from my collection.0 -

Me too.
I've reached 'monthly shuffle overload' and simply CBA adding yet another account.
I could be tempted by a switching incentive though

It is beginning to be a pain, especially as adding a new payee for a given account is usually a headache, so I often only have one "main" account that I do all of my transfers to and from, rather than doing it in a circular fashion (which'd be more efficient).Me too.

Regarding the direct debits - do you know if it's ok to have two separate direct debits on 2 different dates, going into the same Tesco savings account? I wasn't sure if they would be counted as one, if the originator (Tesco) is the same..?Just opened a Barclays account. I don't think I can hang on til Friday...0
