Was heading home from work and heard an ad on the radio about Sainsbugs having sides of salmon cheap. I thought they said £7.50 a kilo but it turns out it was £11 with a clubcard instead of the normal £22. So a 1 kilo side of salmon has been purchased with a charge of about £11 which I'm going to be sliding on to the bbq in about an hour. I think I'll cut it into serving pieces first and only do enough for our dinner and freeze the rest.
Also got a bag of little potatoes to have with it, a couple of bake at home baguettes (for sometime in the next week), a Ritter marzipan chocolate bar (for the OH's stocking) and half price pack of red tissue for bagging up gifts. Total cost came to £15.80 but the lovely woman at the till pointed out that I could use my nextar points so in the end I was only charged 80p!!!
There's one of those easy M&S hollandaise microwave packs in the cupboard so that's dinner sorted. I'll try to do too many potatoes too so we can have some with tomorrow morning's fry up.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. We just had mushy peas from freezer, breaded cod and oven chips cooked in the air fryer. More space in the freezer.
Now thinking about rearranging the freezer to put all the Christmas stuff in the one freezer. Rather than spread over three.1 -
We had a lovely day yesterday, did a charcuterie board (vegan one for DS2) at lunchtime then we had a Chinese in the evening, as they all stayed over did a full English for 9 of us this morning being assisted by a 4 year old, who is becoming the scrambled egg king, the cracking and mixing, not the cooking 😳 and that’s the main event of our Christmas over…..
they have now all headed home, so after a tidy up, will chill this afternoon with picky bits for later, will be half woman half cheese by new year 🤣Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Happy Christmas Eve everyone xHope everyone is busy enjoying themselves 🥰🎄🎄 I surprised DH with a box of seafood for Christmas, so we’ll be having scallops, cold smoked salmon, crab claws, crevette etc tonight.
big hugs to those who are missing family and friends, I have lost 4 close colleagues and my dad this year so will be thinking of them, I always think no one truly passes till there is no one to remember them - enough of my ramblings.Merry Christmas and thank you for your wonderful meal ideas, I steal them at will 🤣🤣Note to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Chicken pie tonight for me. But last night was a new one for me, chicken with winter vegetables, made in the slow cooker, the chicken was thigh pieces (skinned) various winter vege (carrot, swede, leek & onion) so easily available, the stock made from chicken stock, apple juice, they suggested tarragon, which I didn't have so used thyme. You can add creme fraiche if you wish. Rather tasty and cheap to make.2

Happy Christmas Eve to all and echoing Islandmaid I too tend to steal ideas where I can. Assuming i'm allowed in the kitchen.....
Tonight will be a simple affair. Just a bit of violet kir followed by some foie gras with toasted brioche and some grapes. Unless he's changed his mind and wants to have the escargot instead. He does tend to change his mind which is one reason menu planning is a complete waste of time in this household.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Oh Islandmaid!!! How awful to be that ill even without it being Christmas. Glad OH was well enough to do some Frank wrangling!!!
We're just have a bitty supper - lots of nice little things that have been bought as treats but didn't actually get used in the run up to Christmas. There's a pack of pigs in blankets, some bourbon ribs and OH bought mini fish cakes that have mushy peas in them!!! Wondering if I should make some smoked mackerel pate but I suspect that would be a bit too much.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
