    Absolutely knackered we were out early as it was my nephews party, my sister organised a bowling party and they start at 10am!

    We spent a few hours after with them and I collected a TGTG bag from Greggs so by the time we were home it was 6:30pm.

    my daughter had sweet potatoes, peas, ketchup, wasn’t interested in any nuggets. I’ve had something from the TGTG bag and hubby will do the same when he’s home

    @Islandmaid
    Thanks!!  the dinner last evening was most excellent!!  OH did the racks of lamb on the bbq and they were perfect.  I did offer to cook but he knew that I would massively under cook the lamb (nom!!) compared to what he likes.  He did mine just a bit less than his so it was still nicely pink but crispy on the outside.  And as expected new potatoes and just a bowl of undressed rocket to go with.  And wine of course....

    Tonight is going to be prawn sandwiches, I expect he'll want a boiled egg with his and I'm hoping for avocado with mine.  We shall see.

    Meanwhile - thinking of inexpensive meals.....(stating the obvious no doubt) (& all stuff I'd be happy to eat)
    oatmeal for breakfast - cooked or birchler muesli style.  breakfasts can be so very expensive.
    lunches - if they're working they should be taking theirs as well as their travel mug or flask of coffee as paying for lunch is so expensive.  a jar each of peanut butter and jam will go much further and be cheaper than ham and cheese or tuna.  boiled eggs are nice.  So is pittas (sliced into nice chunks) with hummous.
    dinners - jacket potatoes (the frozen ones nuked work out quite cheap) topped with beans or coleslaw or cottage cheese.  Something like rocket under the topping makes it nicer or go for something like a bit of that frozen cauli cheese or creamed spinach.
    -beans and hotdogs/sausages

    Get all those apps that might help - TGTG, Olio, Lidl etc.  Got a very nice free sour dough loaf from the Lidl bakery yesterday.  Freegle will also have offers starting for excess fruit and veg or trade jars of jam for empty jam jars should they have any.

    And well done to them for wanting to tough it out for a bit rather than just pile things onto the credit cards.

    I spent yesterday evening trying out a new recipe from one of my Ottolenghi cookbooks which turned out deliciously and made four very generous portions, one of which I had with a corn on the cob, petits pois, green beans and carrot pennies this evening. Just about to see if I can make space for some strawberries. Herb dumplings with caramelised onion recipe is here and here is my version.

    I’d like to join you on this thread.

    Today, I have a pack of bacon that needs using so I will do a bacon pasta bake.  I did an inventory of my food cupboards last week and there is some dried pasta that needs using up too.

    I need something no muss no fuss tonight so I can get the dreaded ironing pile dealt with... so potato wedges tonight.

    Food memory lane made me think of those old 'cod in butter sauces' you could buy and stick in a saucepan... reviews of current versions aren't that good so... am I right in thinking it's a beurre blanc sauce that's used? May have a go at a make my own in the future if so!
