Husband had a ready meal curry and I had pizza, with some salad. Both bought reduced today. Saved some money as we were going to have a takeaway. So I bought some plants for the garden instead.

Roast pork for us tonight, with roast potatoes, cabbage, carrots, broccoli, apple sauce and gravy. Still getting lots of strawberries from the garden, so Eton Mess for pud.4

Friend dropped off half a dozen mackerel he caught this morning, so that’s dinner tonight, will make red cabbage ‘slaw with lemon and grain mustard dressing and he’ll have some of the Portuguese bread, it turned out HUGE, so cut it in half and froze half.

last night's sardines were great!! bean salad was vetoed so just did a mix of small tomatoes (yellow>orange>red>black) all cut in half with some fresh basil and various dried herbs and a bit of olive oil and white wine vinegar. I'd been given a sun dried tomato & jalapeno sour dough boule at work so OH popped that in the oven to warm through and we had that and olive oil to dip in. Followed by Lidl citrus sherbert in orange peel (just what one needs in this weather!!!)
Tonight I think it will be flammekuchen. OH suggested escargo to start (all lidl) but the only bread we've got is greek flat breads and I'm not sure if that will work. Well we've also got muffins (bought to have with scrambled eggs) and peshwari naan but don't think those are right either. Will poke the OH in a bit and see if he'll go out to get a baguette.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. flammekuchen Is basically a form of pizza, pidė, any flatbread, it’s from Alsace region.
@Brie we had an amazing garlic bread derivative in the Basque region, essentially a snail garlic bread with a whipped garlic cream cheese - blooming lush
i adore that culturally our base foods are so similar - every culture have a form of Pasty/noodles, pies, stews, mince meat tray bake ie shep pie/cottage pie/bobotie/mussakka etc risotto/paella/pilaf
food is the one thing that is universal - ask any nationality about what their favourite food is, you have an global point of communality and discussion 🥰

if you're successful let me know and I'll stop by!!!
@Islandmaid
oh - that does sound rather yummy!! will have to plan a trip to the Basque area now.....
yup! universal food - I tried to explain this to someone once saying that a enchilada isn't that different to a spring roll and the cabbage rolls and dolmades were essentially the same thing and they looked at me like I was completely mad!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards.
