Happy new year to all, we usually have pie here, however I'm making a beef stew later in the week when some friends come round so it will be pork ( from Christmas, sliced and frozen in gravy) with roasted potatoes and veg.
I may have a bit of salmon with mine as I dont eat meat.
  • Happy New Year

Going to be trying to eat a lot of our stores this month and next to save some money and to actually get a handle on our eating habits.

Dinner tonight is korma meatballs with pasta and broccoli.

    Frith - Lovely baking.
I have some mini sausages out of the freezer - still trying to make space in it. Will use up some tomatoes + a fried egg + baked beans and some buttered toast for dinner.

Thanks for reminding me I need to get pork chops out of the freezer.  Or see if there's something even easier to have tonight.

Last night was YS M7S cottage pie for him and chicken coujons with raclette potatoes for me.  He for some reason believes that a pie needs beans with it (ew!) so there were some left over for me this morning for breakfast.  Can't say I really enjoy them much.

We made it til well after midnight - helped by an entertaining movie (Knives Out which we'll follow up with Glass Onions tonight - Craig is so much more entertaining when he's in a comic role).  The fireworks from London looked stunning but I always wonder at cost versus tourist/social/environmental benefit.   I was glad to see it wasn't all gunpowder (??) but that a lot of lasers were being used as well.

@Brie my OH firmly believes in beans with pies too, ideally cooked to mush - which i can't stand. I need my beans warm but at least holding a bean shape. Is your OH from 'up north' too?

Spookily we watched Glass Onion last night. We watched Knives Out a while back. I do like Daniel Craig in them but his accent is atrocious (well just the accent in general), I actually think it would work better with an English accent. I think i enjoyed Glass Onion better than Knives Out overall.

Didn't see the fireworks but I do love big gunpowder bangs. Pretty sure environmental impact of fireworks is pretty minimal compared to things like transport and manufacturing.

@kerri_gt I completely agree about Daniel Craig's accent....truly awful, but I did enjoy Knives Out despite it!!.
Looking forward to seeing Glass Onion when I can.

OH is SE London originally but did spend time in Durham so we can blame that.

There seems to be a love of British actors having southern drawls in movies.  Craig reminded me of Jeremy Irons in Beautiful Creatures.  Or maybe he's better at it (as is Emma Thompson)

@Brie having met and worked with folks with actual southern drawl who sound nothing like that, perhaps it's why it grates on me.

Dinner tonight was pasta. OH had his with some of the stir through sauce that was in the fridge and some jalapeños from the many in the freezer.
I defrosted what was left over bolognaise (as hoped but wasn't sure) and had that.

Made some HM chicken stock too today to clear some more space in the freezer. The price of gas it feels a bit of a luxury making it these days.
OH has also liberated some cheesy beer snack things from the freezer and I'm working through a pack of Baileys profiteroles.

Tonight was roast chicken, roast potatoes, sweet potato with using up the rest of the brussels and carrots from Christmas.
  • Picky plate tonight from all the fridge leftovers. So I had turkey, potato salad, mozzarella, salsa, avocado and a few crackers with salon pate.
