    Just got news from Octopus that today is the first "use less to get paid" challenge between 5pm / 6pm tonight so we will be having Spaghetti Bolognese as its already made (in freezer) and just needs warming up on gas hob  and the challenge is only to save electric.
    Will see how much we get paid for not using as we will be turning everything bar freezer off for the hour.

    I love BBQ, but it's a hassle, any good ideas to satisfy?
    @Ryder988
    First off - what's the hassle?  food prep?  bbq prep?  what type of bbq?
    Secondly - anything can be bbqd so what do you like?

    As a starter - I love to bbq but have been stymied of late due to issues with our big propane Weber.  That's my machine of choice as it's normally a synch to fire up, involves basically no washing up and I'm prepared to cook almost anything on it.  This can range from your basic burgers, steaks or ribs to whole chickens (spatchcocked or not) to fish (salmon being a favourity) or whole roasts.  All the veg you want can go in there too - I simply lay thick slices of courgette and big chunks of pepper in to cook, also asparagus is great, chunks of potatoes or whole corn on the cob wrapped in foil (though you can do corn still in the hush as well).  Desserts can be done as well but I rarely get that far.  Another special thing is roasts - particularly nice on a charcoal bbq and done slowly off to one side of the coals.

    I had a really busy day yesterday - dinner was lo hot dogs in a burger bun with red onion slices + jacket potato + sprouts. I did some baking - tray bake cut into sponge pieces topped with strawberry jam & coconut and a Victoria Sandwich filled with jam and fresh cream.

    Made the venison sausage casserole last night at last. Didn't bother using the packet mix in the end. Just sliced some onions (per mix instructions) and brown those with the sangers, then added a tin of chopped toms in herbs (DM gave them to me ages ago), with a tin of sliced mushrooms and a stray bag I found in the freezer that may have been diced swede, or pineapple....
    Added some HM chicken stock, a bouquet garni, some Worcester sauce and salt / pepper / paprika (lingering in the cupboard) and near the end of cooking chucked in a few gravy granules (it needed an extra 'something') and 2/3 of a tin of baked beans from the fridge. Didn't use the stout in the end as there would have been too much liquid. Hope it tastes nice as it's dinner tonight!

    Whilst cooking that last night, my actual dinner was a fish cake, spaghetti hoops and potato stars  :D

    Just had snacks last night as too tired to cook.
    Today I have been volunteering at the SA from 10 - 3 am - had a meal there - meat loaf, mashed potatoes,cabbage,broccolli and gravy followed by chocolate sponge and chocolate custard so no cooking tonight.

    It was swede 😊 though I'm sure pineapple would've added an interesting twist (I'm firmly in the pineapple does belong on pizza camp so it's fine by me in a savoury dish).

    So tonight was aforementioned casserole, cabbage and some yorkies. Hit the spot on a cold rainy night.
