would you like me to stop off for some farm fresh milk on my way over to share a slice of cake???

our mackerel last night was amazingly nice.  OH lathered on some olive oil and sea salt and did them on the bbq using indirect heat so they weren't singed.  he also did a very simply salad of small tomatoes cut in half, chunks of yellow pepper and fresh basil in a light vinaigrette.  just what one needs to cut the oil of the fish.  there was also a drop or two of chardonnay consumed....

tonight will be rump steaks on the bbq.  portobello mushrooms stuffed with garlic herb goat cheese roulade.  not sure if there will be potatoes (new, baked or fried) or sourdough.  lots of strawberries left.  they needed to be cut into quarters before serving so lots left from yesterday.

OH is out so I had a lazy cheese and tomato pasta ready meal. Followed by pancakes (YS), banana (olio freebie), cream (YS) and chocolate spread (unfortunately not YS!).

Did chicken souvlaki on the barbecue. But rather than do them as the traditional kebab, I cut two chicken breasts in half and then bashed them with a rolling pin to make escalopes. Then put those in the souvlaki marinade in the fridge for a few hours before cooking on the barbecue.

We had them with potato wedges as I didn't have any pittas, must remember to put them on the shopping list next time!

Yesterday I chucked some diced beef, onions, mushrooms and red pepper in the slow cooker with some beef stock and a glass of red wine. I’m using that as the filling for a puff pastry pie, which we’ll have with asparagus and some cauliflower/broccoli cheese. There’ll be enough for a repeat performance tomorrow night as well.

Went out for Sunday roast dinner - marvellous.  OH did one better than me and had dessert as well - an orange/chocolate torte served with that crispy bubbly sugar stuff and salted caramel ice cream.  I hate orange/chocolate anything so wasn't tempted by that but he did give me a taste of the ice cream.  Absolutely gorgeous stuff from a local company and completely vegan.  Don't know how they made it but it was lush.

Net result is no cooking tonight but if I/we feel peckish later there's some goat's cheese roulade in the fridge and loads of oatcakes.  And wine.

That's interesting. I hate chocolate/nuts combined but like each separately except hazelnuts. My evening class tutor this week spent some time on individual palates and preferences, fascinating and full of pitfalls that I had not hitherto appreciated.
